GEOS North America Sold to Open Hearts International College
GEOS North America Announced on September 10 that it has signed a letter of intent [PDF] for the acquisition of all 12 GEOS schools in North America by Florida-based Open Hearts International College.*
When GEOS' Australia schools suddenly closed, GEOS North America was quick to tell its students that everything was OK. That didn't work out very well, did it? Now Open Hearts is making a similar statement:
Open Hearts International College, under owner and President Jenny Nieveen, has run a successful school in Miami for over 10 years, and with the acquisition of the GEOS operations, the goal of the company is to create the strongest and largest group of language schools in North America.
Upon the completion of the sale, GEOS North American schools will retain all staff and the company will continue to offer the highest level of customer service to both students and partners, local and international. The schools will also retain the “GEOS” name as well as relationships and commitments to all agents and vendors.
Open Hearts International College and GEOS North America look forward to building on the mutual strengths of both companies, and on becoming an industry leader in North America and around the world.
It's interesting that they are keeping the GEOS name given how quickly GEOS Australia and GEOS Japan collapsed earlier this year. Other than the press release, I know nothing else about the deal. Consider this an open thread to talk about the remains of GEOS North America.
*OK, the title of this post is misleading. GEOS has not been sold at this point, but expectations are that the deal will eventually be done.

In essence, I can totally assure you, it is a done deal.
Everything has been agreed in meetings, all are happy, hands have been most firmly shaken, preliminaries have been signed, and we simply wait for the lawyers to complete and vet the final papers, and then a very official and joyous announcement shall be made.
We are very proud of this achievement, and know that it is in the interests of all parties concerned, even those still working for us, who would damage us, with cyber deformation, if they actually knew how.

You seem to have problems with things that are very easy to notice, so it might be worth pointing out that if you ever get an email from a lawyer, banker or widow in some African country saying they have some dead guy's money they want to share with you, they aren't serious either. CSIS and Homeland Security do not deal with matters like this. Revenue Canada and the IRS should be on to the money funneling. Also, there are several tax and accounting laws that should have been consulted already. Civil lawsuits in the U.S. is another realm of possibility. Immigration in Canada and the U.S. should also be alerted.

CSIS report Information Security Threats as a priority focus area for it's organisation. While the GEOS leaks are not subsequent to any initiating cyber-attack but rather a product of corporate stupidity, an intelligent argument can be made that the GEOS leaks onto the internet, particularly in regard to identity information cross-linked to passport details/scans, have the potential to present at the least some form of national security threat. A CSIS brief is to collect, analyse and retain information and intelligence respecting activities that can reasonably be suspected of being security threats to Canada. It would be reasonable to ask Messrs Fadden and Boisvert at the CSIS to at least have a quick look at the GEOS leaks carried on Hostmonster so as to satisfy the agency as to whether national security has in any fashion been compromised by the personal data leaks permitted by the GEOS organisation. Ray Boisvert is rightly proud of CSIS's continued focus on positive outcomes, so let's look to a positive CSIS outcome in regard to investigation of, and implementation of harm-reduction strategies in regard to, GEOS personal data information leaks onto the public web.

Since they are giving vacation and that many guaranteed hours, it is most likely a "management" position within a school. Montreal schools, especially GEOS, do not guarantee hours and definitely no paid vacation time for teachers.

I think why Shawn deletes the Uri Carnat posts is because Uri probably sent him a "warning." I know Uri has been pissed about all that has leaked on here about him and the GEOS ops...I worked at GEOS Montreal, Napoleon's HQ, and I have heard the temper tantrums and threats yelled out about sites like this. We were warned about this site and so were others outside GEOS. Reality is he hasn't done a good job of controlling, but I am sure he keeps trying.
ILSC has spanked GEOS at all turns. While I would consider ILSC a bit of an over-priced factory, at least it is not unethical or commit the extensive illegal actions GEOS does. It doesn't come with all that baggage...

I am sure he is just5 getting his...I work as a director of a big school in Canada, and let's just say his name is on a blackout list (warning list, much the same as Chinese schools, etc.) for potential hires. Not a good thing professionally speaking...

At 13.25, as a Director of a competitor school, are you not concerned at the misleading and false advertsing that is being out out by GEOS?
Of course everyone knows about the B.S. GEOS puts out. And the B.S. who is leading the charge there (Montreal, as many have pointed out). But it is not my job to police the situation; we are doing just fine Unfortunately, Languages Canada, who should be policing things in Canada at least, is a shell of an organization with no real enforcement powers. So this sort of thing will continue for some time to come.
To the people who noticed there was no deal between Open Hearts and GEOS yet...You are absolutely right.

If out of the many people on here connected to GEOS/ OH and countless others who know the industry do not know anything, or even heard the slightest information, I can only conclude it is a dead deal. There is no way in hell that a leaking, failing ship like GEOS would ever be able to contain the information like that...Even the CIA couldn't. And this is even more true given Uri Carnat's somewhat infamous history of shooting his mouth off about his great accomplishments before they actually materialize, including in the brain.
I really wish their was more investigative journalism on here, and not just regurgitating of marketing propaganda/ press releases as fact.

Besides their Registrar referred to as the 'register' (Yasumitsu Hashimoto, alias Yasu, is at GEOS as a register), the following appears under their pathway programme:
The “Bildungsurlaub” recognition by German state authority (Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg, Hessen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Sachsen-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein) permits employees from any sector in Germany to apply for up to an extra 10 days-off of educational leave that in turn is devoted to advancing foreign language skills abroad. The employees is however responsible for paying the language courses.

I do not think, in all sincerity, that there will be a sale to Open Hearts. First, people I know at several large chains in Canada have heard nothing of a sale. And one director said he actually asked one of the GEOS managers (he has balls) about the sale at a industry conference. His response was supposedly a lot of muttering, mumbling, and re-directing the conversation. Take it from there.
So, for all intensive purposes, the sale is a flop. Next issue is how long will GEOS survive without a mommy to take care of the bills.
As for the "Regional Director" of GEOS comments on this board, they must be coming from something. Can't say I know the guy personally, but I do know he seems to have offended a lot of people. And no amount of calling the "demise" of Let's Japan will change that......Maybe he will just clue in and give it up. People will still post.

Forget GEOS Montreal, or anyone in GEOS, actually supporting their ridiculous statement and hyperbole with any amount of fact. So you will never get what universities they are supposedly in bed with nor will you will they every explain how there are 245 students in a 60-student-capacity school.......Is nice to see the Regional Director or someone else is watching things on here given they suddenly dropped the 245 to 18-0 or so. Still a ridiculous number.
As for the Open Hearts no sale. Well, everyone knows in Canada that Uri blew it big time.

Sorry, Staples, I apologize for being wrong as I thought u had said u were "not posting or coming in here again", sorry, I must have just plain misunderstood. Probably due to damage caused to my brain during my GEOS days. Anyway, just a small piece of advice, don't get too obsessed with the LJ threads. Just read, enjoy, observe how things pan out and have a bit of a chuckle at the stupidity of the industry and its principal actors. And, interestingly, GNYC is identified by the Honolulu authorities as a Foreign Reporting entity. So, scratch me 'ead and ponder "just who is/are the owner/s of the outfit???". Search a little more, and bear in mind that we are now into commercial and not gvt web sites, and we find Nobuko Munoz being identified as a principa officer of GNYC. If that web info is accurate, and if me crystal ball is functioning at 100%, it is to be hoped she has taken advice about personal structuring as a woman of straw...and that she has checked on the existence of officer liability insurance cover.

- Audrey Malgras-Serra : The French lady who works as Uri's right-hand lady, some would even say bed buddy. She continuously monitors these boards under the direction and guidance of master Ur.i. You can guess some of the posts on here by the English-French mixup in her head. She is a pretty whiny, arrogant little munchkin with a silver spoon up her arse. Not many like her, but dare to challenge her given her night-time allegiance to the little man at the helm.
Due to Shawn's overzealous "spam filter", I have had trouble posting on here. Maybe because the montreal manager does not like ex-staff currently in Montreal from psoting on here? Sad. Ian Orti and Scot punk guy something or other: These two uber "teachers", lifers, douchebags who do not want real responsibility or a life, never leave the institution. Has something to do with drinking too much and still thinking they are 18 years of age. Really, a sad, two-faced, Uri-yes-men pair. Enough said. They also post on here....I can spot there "comedic style" often. They will do anything for their master, Uri, to keep the only employment they barely qualify for.
Sayaka Sakikabara: The token Japanese lady at the school, she is shoehorned into the master's office/ shoebox, and bows her head in typical faithful allegiance Japanese-style to her boss. Best part, while smiling to the little man, she sends current Japanese students to a little school in Monkland called CLC for "continued study." I think half the GEOS Japanese population (and even Korean) have moved their little butts up there under her guidance, and possible kick-back from the Japanese owners. I guess Uri is not Japanese enough to garer the Japanese dollars that are leaving his school right under his nose. Uri is too full of himself to even notice or figure it out.
