GEOS North America Sold to Open Hearts International College
GEOS North America Announced on September 10 that it has signed a letter of intent [PDF] for the acquisition of all 12 GEOS schools in North America by Florida-based Open Hearts International College.*
When GEOS' Australia schools suddenly closed, GEOS North America was quick to tell its students that everything was OK. That didn't work out very well, did it? Now Open Hearts is making a similar statement:
Open Hearts International College, under owner and President Jenny Nieveen, has run a successful school in Miami for over 10 years, and with the acquisition of the GEOS operations, the goal of the company is to create the strongest and largest group of language schools in North America.
Upon the completion of the sale, GEOS North American schools will retain all staff and the company will continue to offer the highest level of customer service to both students and partners, local and international. The schools will also retain the “GEOS” name as well as relationships and commitments to all agents and vendors.
Open Hearts International College and GEOS North America look forward to building on the mutual strengths of both companies, and on becoming an industry leader in North America and around the world.
It's interesting that they are keeping the GEOS name given how quickly GEOS Australia and GEOS Japan collapsed earlier this year. Other than the press release, I know nothing else about the deal. Consider this an open thread to talk about the remains of GEOS North America.
*OK, the title of this post is misleading. GEOS has not been sold at this point, but expectations are that the deal will eventually be done.

Well, a Letter of Intent (LOI) is a common prelude and framework for a contract. Usually, management puts an LOI together, and subsequently the lawyers get together and draft a full-fledged contract. But an LOI can be either non-binding or binding as stipulated. After three months, a contract should have been a done deal. Makes you think. As for titles, if you know anything about contracts, titles are typically not considered binding, and in fact, language to that effect is included in the body of the contract. So, let up on Shawn a little. ;-)

Time for the November newsletters? I, for one, look forward to reading about the student numbers and the nationality mix. I expect the growth will continue its upward spiral and a few new nationalities will be added to the list.
10:45 Regurgitating bad information is not an excuse. Shawn needs to also do his own verification and not just copying what L&T says. We all know L&T "reports" what schools who advertise in it supply to them. Advertising at its best, and GEOS did a helluva job in that respect using all the free advertising they could. Too bad the announcement was premature and looks to be null and void.

Nationality Mix
Let's see how the compare! Below is what they claimed in their October newsletter. I count 21 nationalities woith 'others' making up the other 29. I'm interested in the 'others'....would anyone form Montreal school care to list a further 29 nationalities?.

GEOS NA newsletter up early...Or actually late given they missed the last two. This is the last newsletter of the year, as they will not release one at the end of December. And guess what? NO SALE ANNOUNCEMENT OR ANY UPDATE WHATSOEVER!!! Not a mention of Open Hearts! Nothing...Nada.
But it is nice to see the Korean marketing engine at work...And the fact that they moved to a smaller LA location. Save some dough...Oh, almost forgot; many of the first round of Korean students from the new Korean efforts of Rita Chen have decided to LEAVE GEOS Montreal and go ot ILSC, LSC, and other schools! Yup, guess they gave big discounts for a month "trial" and they did not like things. Shh, don't tell anyone. ;-)

I'm really not interested in GEOS NA but that is a very interesting question, given that he was apparently all fired up about fighting G.com's take-over of GEOS in court. Wonder what happened to that idea. I also wonder if he is actually involved in GEOS NA, because I bet G.com didn't want to have anything to do with it.

The title of this thread is pretty clear Get a Life. If you have no interest, then do not read. Of course there is a lot more to life than GEOS, but we want the truth to be told. We are doing nothing more than searching for the truth as we are all sick of the deceit. Doctors don't walk away when there is a cancer....they attempt to get rid of it. Clearly the managers of NA read this site as the Montreal November newsletter now lists 32 countires (out of the 46). Previously they only listed 21 countries.
This still leaves 14 countries as 'others'. What are the other 14 countries? C'mon whoever does the nationality mix, satisfy our curiosity and list the missing 14 nationalities.....reveal the 'others'. If you make statements to the public, then expect to be challenged on them.
Can you also give us a breakdown on how many of the 235 students are studying English? I would assume that the Australian's and Canadian's are studying French?

Still trying to figure out where all the other 235 students are....30 + 20 = 50 maximum...Must on smoke break on Sherbrooke Street or called in sick due to the shitty Montreal weather. Possibly they are ghosts...Anyone know?

Seen OH Miami's current weekly pricing viz a viz GEOS fees? So if you'r sitting in Belgrade or Busan and sufing for Eng schools, where you gonna go????......sunny Miami at say $180 or cold and snowy northern GEOS schools at a premium. GEOS Montreal is not going to provide proof of the "245 students" it somehow managed to shoehorn into a chicken coop. Nor would they given the fire department and building management might want to have a little chat. Geez, with those kind of steady numbers, especially in the winter in snowy, cold Montreal, you would think it would be GEOS buying out Open Hearts, and not the other way around. Maybe that is the new, big plan the little one is carrying with him in Montreal for Jenny. I can imagine there a few drinks being put on the GEOS tab while he is down there.
$180 per week is certainly competitive and reflective of the state of the market right now. Students are in the pound seat and can shop for the best deal which are forcing prices down. Clearly a buyer's market.
Reading the OH website, they would definitely be impressed with little one's nationality mix. OH lists 14 of their main nationalities....a far cry from the 50 Montreal claims! Our students come from many countries including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Peru, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Turkey and Venezuela.
We know that competitors read this site. Fact! Little one would be the laughing stock of the industry given his marketing claims as well as how 'popular' he is with his staff. A true and inspirational leader! He, as well as the other GEOS managers are truly out of their depths in the world arena. It must be embarassing to sit at the Miami workshop next to competitors who are keeping up to date with this site.
No doubt participants at the workshop will be asking about the OH purchase of GEOS. Hopefully participants will also ask how Montreal has maintained such 'steady' numbers as mentioned by 6.12. Will the little one reveal his strategy that has led to such marketing success?

Everybody knows it and is why they have lost members...Seriously, LC only cares about keeping some $$$ flowing in to pay the only bare-bones office and one staff member they have full-time. Languages Canada will never enforce anything because they, too, are so mismanaged. They have no staff or balls to actually take action against members like GEOS who are so corrupt and unprofessional. They do not want to lose the $2,500 or so each school pays a year as a basic membership fee. Too many volunteers on their boards and too many people know each other to really affect change.
Poor Uri Carnat...Doesn't take too well to the Christmas carols or a board he cannot control. Christmas present coming soon on this board, Uri. Stand by. And, not, it is not a deal with Open Hearts that you managed to mangle and f-up so badly. Urghh, I dunno what next is to be exposed on Lets Japan Leaks, but we are all a wee bit numbed here at GEOS HQ, not only account of the leaks thus far, but on account of the Christmas Carols.
