GEOS North America: Everything is OK
As has been mentioned in comments, the NY ryugaku blog has posted a memo from GEOS New York saying that everything is OK:
Announcement from GEOS New York Corporation (GEOS USA) and GEOS Language Corporation (GEOS Canada)
GEOS Corporation in Japan recently filed for bankruptcy, with some of its assets taken over by G Communications, a separate Japanese company, and some of its assets being currently held by a court-appointed trustee.
The ownership of the shares of the company in North America is currently held by a court-appointed trustee awaiting sale.
There has been no change in the legal or operating status of the companies in Canada and the United States, and we look forward to a rapid sale and to continuing to provide excellent services to our students and partners.
I really have nothing to add apart from we all know how this kind of reassurance turned out when GEOS Australia shut down.

It is big? It is a change in a dirty company, that is but a piss in the ocean, whose off-shore remainders only exist because owners have diverted stolen funds to prop them up, because they need an active NA business to get their escape and permanent residency visa's for NA in place, giving them options to further complicate / differ / confuse / distract if and when the Japanese law hunts them down.
You talk as if such a minor change is something people should actually stand up and pay attention to.
What should be paid attention to, is the crimminality of eikaiwa operators, and not this inane, fairy floss, banter, that haunts and plagues forums such as this, far too often.

So, Miss Kim outsold Niall? Ha, ha! Uri is itching to get the Korean's back. But I love to hear he is once-again trying to cut out the agents. Can't be a good thing in the Korean agent's eyes. But then again, he has no Korean students now. Sucking the Saudi government for big pre-payments and mom's for summer camp tuition. He is only out to save his own ass, as everyone knows inside. Given he embellished his dear old resume a few times, can't say any other school would hire him.

Remember what was said about six GEOS NA schools under the gun. GEOS Toronto and Ottawa both just lost their managers due to firings. Both of these schools were identified as part of the six that will be the first to close.

the person writing about Uri Carnat trying to sidestep the agents and go for direct recruitment to save the agent fees is absolutely right. We just launched a "discount" elective class campaign to meet this month's target (EOM coming up fast). you can fine a copy on our facebook page. we had to write that it is only for "direct registrations" i worry when our agents find out. uri is definitely pushing this style to mixed reviews from our staff (and probably other Geos locations in Canada).. in Vancouver Geos we are being pushed to meet targets/ signups hard. every damn day we have to post on facebook something to push hard. yes, EVERY day. and people are competing against each other for student registrations to "not get fired". can't see that going over well long term. things are getting desperate although i am not privy to all details of the financials.
i feel for Geos Ottawa as i know their plight.

Hello, it's me, Me Long time no talk. But we been very busy. Queen came, had G20. Very nice. Things good here Ottawa. Good, yes? Mr Niall happy. We make budget OK last month. But very lucky, Mr Niall got his big payment check for $27.000 from Wings of Peace students. Mr Niall say "I very happy I got check, I was worried they maybe no pay me,Me." I say "Happy?, you were muking lucky!"
Anyway, everyone happy here too because Mr Niall getting toilets fixed here. About time too we all say.
Mr Nialltell me that Mr Uri had been talking to Saudi men at embassy again about us being "totally professional" with Saudi student teaching. I say, "Oh, that good, how Mr Uri going to do that?" Mr Niall, he say "buggered if I know, Me." And the Mr Niall clear up what he means when he say Mr Uri is a "loose cannon." I not quite understand but it something to do with Mr Uri saying on internet that racial stereotyping at airport good idea. Don't undertand. Long tim no talk. But that is life, yes? Things not too bad at Ottawa now. except we no got Asian or Japan or Korea students now. This month only two new students from Asia. All rest, about 14, from Middle East. And I must say Sarah doing real good on her targets but Mr Niall only 40% of target, tut-tut. Anyway, Mr Niall he say "Me, it's like furgin Beuruit by Night here these days." I say "No worry, Mr Niall, it all just money fom Cultural Bureau guys up the road." And he say "Me, as usual you right but big problem now with Mr Uri." And I say "What problem, darling?". Somethimes Me call him darling and he go all gooey and like it! Nice, yes? Mr Niall he say "Problem is lots of the students wanrt to go home for Ramadan." So I say "Not a problem Mr Niall, you just say bye-bye, see you in September." But he say "No, that Mr Uri, he been talking with SABC and they say students stay in school, and Mr Uri say YOU STAY IN SCHOOL. And now everyone getting pissed off" And I say "Oh." And then I go home.

Friday update. No Canadian schools will meet this month's target. Most need to pull in between $6,000 and $10,000 a day to make it.

Some buzz around that GEOS NA may be considering a name change. Anybody heard about this?

Ottawa is not meeting target. Will miss cash and student targets. Same goes for GEOS Toronto and Montreal. Already the summer spike is disappearing and fast. Some schools called "important all-staff" meetings recently to SELL, SELL, SELL.
Agent newsletter from GEOS Montreal cancelled this month. Manager/ head honcho / uri is making efforts to "detroy" the competition.......except his ship is leaking, and I do not mean water or even money (which we all know). ;-)
Anyone who writes "GNA" is obviously a GEOS staff member. Why else would someone post this newsletter with no insight into the purpose. Looks like Uri-boy is back. Except he forget to tell us why the newsletter is, oh, a month late almost...???
A little visitor from a long, long time ago came to visit us the other day in Montreal...We all smiled an laughed and maybe even reminisced. But she had no idea she was a communication pawn for a little gossip. The head master in Montreal has not forgotten, even if he smiles and laughs, and even buys her some food!

Big news...GEOS Montreal will not make cash targets this month, much like someone said about the Ottawa school. Yup, the home to the Uri guy everyone seems to talk about on here. The head honchos school is not making targets and not at the top of the NA list. Go figure. Looks to be a hellish winter season.
Oh, and I can verify a little lost girl from a long time ago in GEOS Montreal-land DID in fact grace us with her presence......And Uri lapped it up like an other dirty dog would do.
Well, GEOS Ottawa definitely will not make the cash target, Unless we want to sell $15,000 worth of course per day until the end of the month.
When we see a target, it is a target, but when we see an offer of a union membership, we are unable to see what we get for paying our money. The attached spreadsheet shows very plainly there is no benefit in Unions. Beware of Unions.

So it looks like some of what myself and others have been saying on here for some time...GEOS NA will be sold, possible this year/ soon . But those of us with any inside knowledge or experience already knew that. ;-) It was so obvious GEOS NA was pulling out all the smoke and mirrors to sell it. I wonder who the gullible person and/ or company is? Any guesses.

I do find the info sales rumor VERY interesting. And I think it might be true given other posting on here. It is about time because their sales targets are not being met already.

Why Is It?
Whys is it seemingly impossible for anyone in Canada to mention anything with a passing remark about a certain manager in Canda. I mean who cares? And why is it that no American ever talks about GEOS NA?
Because we in the U.S. couldn't care less about GEOS NA. They are so small and useless.
But I heard the bigger reason is, from some colleagues and on other Internet boards, the "leadership" at GEOS Canada is so scuzzy and plain stupid that they gossip all the time. I remember reading a posting (not on here, but maybe repeated here) about the managers being complete morons and the director being one of the slimiest a-holes around. Great detail and insight, with some very entertaining, but scary, antecdotes. Really would not want to work there at all.

The person who wrote about GEOS Ottawa fudging the numbers is on the money. The cash target numbers swung from -$15,000 or so to +$20,000. $40k swing in two days????? Let this be a warning to anyone interested in buying the company.

Gcomm still owns, loosely. But sale in works. Nothing finalized, and might just be hype and wishful thinking from GEO NA. They have been trying for so long.
Number fudging, as some reported correctly, would be to seal the deal. Any smart company would do their due diligence. Maybe smaller, private person looking at it. If anything, sale must come soon because all GEOS NA locations took a huge drop in enrollment and money this month, Winter season coming for Canada locations, so not good. I wouldn't buy them.
Matt Barr is leaving his GEOS San Fran manager and heading to GEOS New York. That only means that there is yet another shakeup at GEOS New York. Not good news in the GEOS manager world again.

Pommy Pete: There is nothing of interest in those posts. He won't put it up again. Take a look at some of the other rcent posts for interesting facts. Espescially the GEOS NA sale news.
But I still do not know why anyone or company in their right mind would even consider buying the crappy ship known at GEOS...It is SINKING and has absolutely no cache. Change the name and what do you get? A handful of long-term student contracts bought with excessive agent money and no real relations with agents worldwide. Better to start from scratch.

Does anyone know anything about these sales rumors swirling? I suspect that if GEOS NA was worth anything it would have been sold a long time ago....Why the delay? Who would it fit with strategically? Can't see much upside.

Today - GEOS NA advises all that it is being bought out by Open Hearts International College which is owned by Jenny Nieveen and operates out of Miami. Intention is to continue operations under GEOS label.

Ha, ha! Poor GEOS got bought out by a little company...Guess the big boys did not want anything to do with them. As we all know, a certain little manager in Montreal was desperate to save his job, since he was not wanted elsewhere. Hope Jenny has done her full due diligence, because she might be in for some surpises if she hasn't. Namely related to that Montreal manager. And they really need to change the name, because GEOS has a her bad rep.
Everyone remember the manager's trip to Miami earlier? Now you know.

Now we know for sure (some did guess on here) why .u /r/i c/a/r/n /a/t went to Miami recently. And GEOS had gotten cozy with Open Hearts...
Looks like GEOS will be American owned. For the better, given how shitty their operations were before, not to mention unethical. But they are going to keep their tranished name??? How does Open Hearts think it is going to build a NA powerhouse with a shitty name like GEOS? Seriously, OH, change GEOS to open Hearts and you migth actually have a chance. Their is too much baggage with the GEOS name amongst students, staff and agents.
Anyone know what kind of position the little man from Montreal will have?
P.S. Nice to see another Japanese company bites the dust fully once again...
P.S. The sale proves GEOS had no cache and could not survive on its own. Poor GEOS NA management could not shoulder the responsibility and run a successful operation themselves.

Okay, my colleague who actually works in a GEOS school in NA had a few things to say to me in an e-mail to me just before they left work. I can always count on this person for accurate info about GEOS, and here it is...!
- most people knew about the impending sale, but not all the details...He knew over 2 or 3 days ago...
- The Montreal manager's Miami trip WAS for Open Hearts
- The sale rumour was true, but not much of a secret. Supposedly the manager guy in Montreal was talking all over the place about it and patting himself on his back for it.
- Collegue feels they need to change the name, but manager guy is obsessed with proving he "saved the conmpany/ name", which just happens not to be owned by the original people nor anything to do with it anymore. Just a tired and sad facade with no brand cache.
- Many GEOS schools are reporting after the sales...Convenient. And pre-payments WERE used to make financial records look "strong" for possible sale. I hope the OH owner is not that stupid.
- selling to Open Hearst was out of desperation...Montreal manager had no more time or patience from the Japanese...They were not the ideal buyer, being smaller, etc., but GEOS needed to sell itself or collapse completely. Many employees do not feel the same hype that the manager guy feels about the near future of GEOS. The manager thinks it will be a mega-coporporation with him at the helm...Good luck.
- Open Hearts is a pretty shitty looking school in a second-rate mall. Supposedly they are trying to develop "Open Hearts International College" and a coporate program...

THIS is the school that will buy GEOS!!! GEOS was defnitely desperate. I am sure Jenny runs a good operation (anything is better than GEOS), but Open Hearts is NOT a large or complex operation by any means. Just a regular, run of the mill school with bad furniture. Perfect for GEOS. :-P
P.S. Wow, the more I look at that brochure, the more I think how depserate the little man in Montreal (U.C.) was for a sale...Must be the Miami bnusiness visit perks...

The GEOS name is only there and once Jenn gets all the facts, she will remove it. Open Hearts is much better than GEOS any day. What a shameful company GEOS was. Good riddance!
