you look a lot like me but you still have time to GET OUT. I hope you don`t have a family here in Japan. The TV is crap,the food has 2 favors (soy sauce or miso) and most people will be nice to your face and than. I have been in Japan for 30 years and you are still right on so much. I have seen so much and this is still a backward county that exports their technology. But leaves their citizens with ovens that break after 2 to 3 years, cars that are garbage at 5 years; I could go on and on. I just hope that anyone planning on coming here thinks it through and has a plan B

Anyway, I'm just glad that, compared to my current Japanese experience, the lifestyle depicted here is a distant memory for me now - I don't miss it at all. Good work that man on finding a way to pass the time.
As it says below, this video was made by an Englishman about a man in Japan. This doesn't mean that the actor is English.

The film was pretty funny. But he definitely was not a NOVA teacher. He appeared to resemble a NOVA teacher because he was really poorly dressed and carried around a dorky back-pack while wearing a lame shirt and tie. However, while his apartment was tiny, it was much too clean to be NOVA accommodations. At work he was using a computer and everybody knows NOVA teachers are strictly forbidden to go near company computers. NOVA teachers use crayons to document information.
that couldn't be a NOVA apartment, it's missing those hideous blue curtains all company apartments seemed to have. Anyone remember those? He had a bed, too.... we got given single-size futons. Even for couples, dammit..
how glad i was to move out of that NOVA apartment!

That was a gem. I think I must have given myself serious dain bramage from hitting my head on the door jambs so many times in these hobbit hovels.
He should have included a scene, "Yeah, mom, I've made lots of friends... They come and visit me quite often" (scene: he opens the door and the NHK guy is there)...
Brilliant. Very funny. I love when he talks about the quiet and goes to the door and you expect a train to come rumbling by very close, but then it's even worse than expected, it's a friggin' jet.
Hey, I send in my resignation a few weeks ago and have not recieved my Separation Papers in the mail yet...So I cant collect unemployment. Now, I feel like Im at a dead end because Nova is now bancrupt officially and Im afraid I cant get those papers...is it true? Does anyone know how I can get those?

there ARE folks still at head office sending that paperwork...I resigned at the head office on the 22nd of november, and got the papers yesterday the 4th..so they are coming..u should call HO if you are worried..
call and make sure they got your official resignation,and also tell them to give you all the forms youll need for UI.
they ARE actually being helpful there....as opposed to the cunts they were for the last 20 years..good luck!
Does anyone know when we will get the ￥150,000 for staying home a month. I heard you guys also didn`t get your advance today. Any informatoin would be good, thanks.
I called Foreign Personnel this evening and they said that for people on Option A, the salary for "work done in November" would be paid tomorrow and that the ￥50000 advance on January's pay would be paid on "either Friday or Monday". The person I spoke with said that the reason was that when people who with signed up with G.Education gave the Katakana names associated with their bank accounts, G.Education found that some didn't match up with the actual names registered with their banks. As a result, the forms that had been submitted to G.Education were sent back to the Nova head office to be "rechecked". I have read on other forums that for people on Option B, Foreign Personnel have been quoted as saying that the ￥150000 payment would be transferred to their bank accounts on Monday.

honestly, I do...however, the morbid side of me wants very very much to laugh at this recurring scenario...i heard there was even a fax!
and please, I DO realize and understand that saying that makes me a prick, and I am not helping the situation..

Just a word for all those that have moved on, I have come across a number of 'Notice of dismissal'....notices...come through to my present Japanese address and my old one despite the fact that I had handed in a change of address notification indicating that I am returning to my home country and would like all mail mailed to an address in that country.
If you are still in Japan and have not received your 'Notice of Dismissal' to enable you to apply for UI, check your old letter box or, if you can, fax the Neo-Nova staff at 06 7688 0401 or maybe go in personally to the old Nova OCAT Osaka head office (hopefully the equivalent in Tokyo is still operating) and make sure they have your new address on their databanks. The Trustees were sending their notices out based on an old address list, I was receiving letters for people who had long since left Nippon, the Nova/GComm staff indicated that they were going to get the Trustees to update their records.
If the Trustees don't have your correct mailing address those unpaid wages will remain as such...unless you can track down that 'elusive' letter and send you application in within 2 years. Old Nova HQ in Osaka will (rumoured!!) be moving come the end of this year so genuinely make a move on this if you've received nothing.
On a far lighter note, G Comm is rehiring come January....hmmm....who's interested?
Just to clarify, the 'Notice of Dismissal' enables you to apply for UI, this is the letter that the Trustees have currently sent out.
By giving your correct or current contact details to Neo-Nova you 'should' have ensured that the Trustees will send the Certificate of Bankruptcy etc. for the unpaid wages to the correct address at some time in the future, hopefully within 2 years!!
I was finally able to get G-com's Nov. 10th information session on youtube. It's about the most productive thing I've done in the past two months. See if you can spot yourself out of the crowd.
Has anybody received their Certificate of Bankruptcy yet? Any word on how long it will take?

I like the editing. Good job there. The soundtrack wasn't so bad either.
I will say, I love Japan. I think you could make the same video anywhere in the world - the U.S., England, South Africa, wherever. People have their opinions. Can't bang on that.
If anyone wants to come up to Akita Prefecture I can show you something different that might change your opinion about Japan, or at least give you some good material for a taking the piss video.
I love it here. The food is better than any I've eaten, on a whole. I think that goes to that I like to cook and I have more than one burner on my stove. Gotta love the one burner bit, that was priceless. I don't have an oven, but then again, few people I know do.
Sorry for the apartment bro. I got nice big windows and 3 rooms, kitchen, shower room with a bathtub I can actually fit into, but if I want a bath I just walk to the local onsen and chill out. No worries. Lots of space in the rice fields of Akita.
Like I said, if you want to hop a night train, I can show you something different, maybe.

Great video, very funny. I live in Japan. There are somee things in the video that are right on the mark. To those dissenters, get a sense of humor. It's not a documentary. Did you really think it was?
