Yet Another Fax

Oh joy! Nova president "Nozom" Sahashi has decided to tell everyone to hang tight just a little longer yet again. Maybe if he actually showed his face in public and explained things, people would start taking him seriously instead of trying to decipher the meaning of his brief faxes. Here's the new fax with a translation courtesy of .

To all staff

To all those that are fighting in the trenches for the sake of the company, I apologize sincerely for the delayed wages. It is one of the worst places to be in business. I intend to do something about the cancellation refund money. In order to return to a normal working environment I am doing my best. For those that keep the schools open for the students, I am doing my best.

Last week I was hoping to be able to give you good news but got stuck on one final detail that needs to be resolved. I am in the middle of sorting this out. I want to be able to do this for everyone this week (reveal details.)

I have asked you all to try hard but for this one last time I implore you to try again. Please don't give up now.

(PLEASE TRY)

SARU

Text of the fax

Comment: Sahashi sounds like a broken record. It was little more than a week ago that he said things were going to work out. I called the previous fax "a pile of crap" and in this new one all he seems to be doing is stalling for time. It's always "one final detail" with this guy.

One more thing: I realize this is an internal memo, but given that Nova employee's aren't being paid on time, the level of his language is quite informal. You'd think he'd express his regret more formally than this.

I wonder if the informal language is a last-ditch attempt to create some feeling of friendship and mutual appreciation between Saruhashi and his alienated staff - they're buddies, and you can't back out on a buddy! Kinda like a junkie asking for 20 bucks from his grandpa and promising it'll be "the very last time, really. Would I let you down?!?"

Yes. Yes you would. You have, you are, and you can go further still. And all the cute, friendly, informal language in the world won't change that.

Let's see Sahashi try this sh|t with us instructors. We'll walk in droves.

Mr Sahashi always seems to have an excuse for his delays....
He is unprofessional. If Nova pulls through this, who wants to say they work for a company represented by such a man? How many teachers and staff can continue working for someone they dont trust in an unstable enviroment? Mr Sahashi owes every employee and student something more......

If Nova go under do you think he is going to feel safe walking the streets?

Again with the mentioning of the cancellation refund money, like it's THAT that's causing all the problems, how dare the government make them have to pay it and cause all this trouble for poor Nova! If that had never happened everything would have been all find and dandy...

That filthy liar definitely has to be sued, after all the financial and moral prejudice that he's already caused.
I would feel very bitter if he escaped. That guy's destiny is to spend the rest of his days rotting in a cell.

Next week will be the last for Nova. There is no plan. There is no bail out. He is simply trying to get to the next payday so that he blame the collapse of the company on the foreigner workforce and save face. This is and always has been about the man`s ego.

Hundreds will call in sick Monday.

This will double on Tuesday.

By Wednesday a large number of branches will effectively be closed. This will also be the day the shit hits the fan in the press.

Thursday will see die hard hopefuls still in their booths but they will be feeling very lonely.

By Friday even Japanese staff will have given it up for dead. And only branches in the middle of nowhere with no access to TV or the internet will still be at work.

The weekend will see a postmortem in the press that should make for good viewing for those thousands of us enjoying our first weekend off together in forever.

All the suits on the foreign and Japanese staff side are now aware of this now but just waiting it out until next Monday.

By Friday the 19th (when the new report is due) it will be all done. That is why he fudged his response to JASDAQ.

Anyone at Nova next week should treat it as voluntary work and a networking opportunity to get your card out to the students.

Yeah, I basically agree. Though I don't see how he can blame it on the foreign work force and have it accepted by anyone as a plausible excuse.

I certainly can imagine him saying something along the lines of
"Unfortunately, it is with great regret that I must inform all of the staff and the public that due to the disloyal behavior and the lack of company spirit by many of foreign instructors, for refusing to work despite some minor pay delays, Nova, this company that I love and have given everything for has been forced to declare bankruptcy."

I'd say the company will have probably collapsed before the new JASDAQ deadline, though the only thing that gives me the slightest bit of hope for our next payment is that the Japanese staff may have not gotten paid so that instructors will.
Does anyone want to make print outs that say (in both Japanese and English) "If we don't paid on Monday, we WILL stop teaching!" ? ..and have it passed around the MM centre? A posted on every wall and cubical inside?
..and faxed to president Monkey-bridge?

How about printing out fliers and posters that say: "For the sake of the company, Nozomu Sahashi should commit suicide!" in big bold Japanese writing? With a picture of him on the side and the NOVA logo at the top.

Why doesnt some just do I cut and paste job from one of Saruhashi's bullshit announcements. If you can speak Japanese, type something like ' I have taken the long overdue step of resigning and will now be leaving the country for Thailand where I plan to spend my days drunk in a bar with two underage ladyboys' on an official Nova fax and then send it to all branches. (there is a function on branch fax machines...if they still have them)...oh and to the Japanese press for good measure

I Like the idea that they might pay us before the staff. It finally makes it clear that that the most important part of this company was the teachers, not the staff.

That is why when we walk out next week it will all be over. Even if 70% of the Japanese staff quit tomorrow and there was only one staff per branch it would be business as usual. The same will not be true next week when 70% of the teachers are gone.If this had been realized sooner some fat might have been trimmed.Instead we had poorly trained Japanese management who treated us like product. A fundamental lack of understanding.

Unfortunately though, no one is getting paid!

OK, now try getting a translation that wasn't done by one of those horrible internet websites. I give my students a zero when they submit garbage like that.

I don't know who submitted that last post, but I suspect that it wasn't an English speaker. A native speaker would take one look at that translation and realise how bad it is. Was it Japanese staff? Or just a lazy instructor?

Great translation! Obviously from someone who is on their second 600 point package.

Notice how that butt fucking cunt doesn't bother to apologise to the foreign staff and how that fax was only directed at the J-staff.

From what I hear, he's off somewhere in France playing golf, spending money that is rightfully ours and what the fuck does he care?! He's pocketed his millions/billions.

Hope that bastard chokes on a fucking snail.

He deserves to go to jail and get raped like he's raped us all.

DEATH TO MONKEYBRIDGE!

Why? Just look at people like Mr. Bob Tench. 13 years in a country and cant string a simple sentence such as 'I feel betrayed' into Japanese...people wonder why gaijins are a fucking joke in Japan..that’s the reason. Never mind the fact that he can’t speak Japanese, learn to do a tie...you're worse than Saruhashi at his press conference..and before I hear any bullshit about ' we don’t need Japanese, we are English teachers'..let me say two things.
Lots of foreigners in Japan speak Japanese, they are called Koreans and Chinese. Also, if an Asian went to American or England, the poor bastard would end up washing dishes at a restaurant...maybe that’s where we should stick people like Mr. Bob Tench...learn the fucking language you monkey. L.C did.
The union is a fucking joke. Demanding Nova enrol people in shakaihoken but sitting there with their heads up their asses when people are getting thrown out of apartments. Who is worse? Saruhashi or the union.....fucks knows

Looks like Saruhashi has pulled a fast one and you all may be eating your words...at least for the time being.

Might get another month out of this.

Language learning is a skill that not everyone is blessed with. Mocking Mr. Tench due to his poor Japanese is rather poor form.

And Asians that immigrate to Western countries wash dishes? What's up with that? Check your racism at the door, pal.

If language learning is skill, then how do children become bilingual or even trilingual? It has a lot more to do with effort than any inherent skill.
Also, if you actually read my email, I wasnt being racist. I was commenting on the fact that any foreign national who doesnt speak English in an English speaking country would have almost zero opportunities..as opposed to Westerners living in places like HK, Singapore and the pink bunny world of Japan.
Tell me if thats racism or just stating a fundamental disadvantage for non-English speakers....pal

That comment by Bob Tench in the article is completely misleasding.

From what I hear, Bob Tench hasn't "worked" at Nova for 13 years at all, he's been on strike for the last god-knows-how-many years and goes into work about once every 2 months, if that.

Which means that he doesn't usually get paid by Nova at all anyway, so he doesn't know shit about the situtaion of teachers. Can't they find anyone better to represent 6000 (or is it 4000 now?) teachers??

i think you:re missing the point, dude. and i agree that it shows a lot of disrespect to take no interest in learning the language of the country in which you live. i haven:t met a nova teacher yet that can order a fucking round of beers.

Is that because they can't speak the language - or just because they haven't been paid? ;)
