This was mentioned in comments in a previous thread on GEOS, but the Honolulu school is no longer accepting students. The Honolulu page on GEOS.net looks like this:
When you go to GEOS.net, there is no mention of the Honolulu school anywhere on the page. So, by "no longer accepting enrollments" they mean "closed," right?
Comments
Thanks, Shawn. Back to what really matters.
Hmm, let's see about that. Obviously there's a fair bit of nonsense that's been deleted, however that won't stop it coming. Like I said before, the best way is to a) recognize and b) not engage with stuff that's deliberately designed to provoke, especially the stuff feigning "concern" or "interest" in the topic. On top of that, don't throw scraps for them to gobble up.
Hopefully the webmaster will continue deleting irrelevant or inflammatory/provocative stuff (there's still a few comments left in this thread that should have gone IMO, but the large majority of it has been erased).
What I found really amusing, reading through Audrey's thesis (seems to have been removed), was how Languages Canada had all the stats at their fingertips (lol). If this is the peak body and they have no idea, then wtf!
What was really amusing is the number of nationalities that come to Canada. I think the thesis listed only around 30, a far cry from the 45-50 that goes to GEOS Montreal. (lol) Of course there is the 'other section' to make up the shortfall.
Languages Canada did not have the numbers on hand! LC employs exactly ONE full-time worker, who just happened to be indicated as a participant in Audrey's "thesis." Let's just say Audre Malgras-Serra fudged a few numbers here and there. But let's also be honest; it is not like she went to a prestigious university or anything. She reminds me of most of the rich girls that "need" a Masters degree just to say they have one for their societal class agenda.
If you search for Uri Carnat in that thesis, there is a whole load of BS that only a few of us are privy to. I might explain some of it later when I have more time.
In regards to students numbers at GEOS Montreal, I will help with a little inside clarification:
- GEOS does not actually count students currently enrolled and studying at the school; same goes for all GEOS NA schools. They use a forward/ future contract registration system. This means students are "counted" the moment they are registered, even if their actual studies are six months or more away. So they are "students" at the school then and there. Kind of like how GEOS uses the pre-paid student tuition as if it is earned revenue, when it is clearly not (and can be canceled later), and a huge part of why they are in so much trouble now/ bankrupt. Ponzi scheme, really.
- A "student" can be anyone who registers, long-term full-timer or a person who only takes one hour of private instruction. Hence how the student enrollment numbers can go up so fast, even if a person is gone in a day. They count as a student for the WHOLE month and year, based on GEOS standards. Pads things, doesn't it?
- If a student takes one hour of private instruction, say from a local business, and then comes back two weeks later and takes another one hour of instruction, GEOS NA will count them as TWO STUDENTS or "CONTACTS"!!! Wonder why they are reporting "245 students" in the dead of winter?
- If some of you had taken a closer look at the leaked GEOS Ottawa files from the e-mail/ message board system, you would have seen the Excel files that showed forward contract counting. In the BEST OF TIMES, GEOS Montreal counted a grand total of 140 student contracts!!! This occurred in the winter (February, I believe) because agents usually pay six months ahead for the busy summer season enrollments. In turn, the summer months recorded as little as 20 or so. Yup, the TOP number was 140 or so, NOT 245.
So where is GEOS Montreal getting 245 from? Must be counting all the cockroaches at 1350 Sherbrooke Street West.
P.S. It is nice to see that GEOS Montreal staff read this site because recently the claimed student numbers have been dropping in the GEOS Montreal and agent newsletters. Funny, because the winter is supposed to be when "high numbers" for GEOS forward-contract counting are seen. Hmmmm...
Nice post, 9:15. Wonder what
Nice post, 9:15. Wonder what oldCPA is thinking right now. Maybe he/ she can chime in to your wonderful explanation of things in GEOS.
Seriously, when will Uri Carnat come out of his little hole and clear up the communications and image mess GEOS is in right now?! Uri reminds me of Saddam Hussein hiding in his hole...That is until the U.S. special forces got him. We all know what happened to Saddam. Uri?
Too bad Special K can't speak English or read.
Uri has been shut in since the whole Open Hearts calamity. Jenny doesn't return his calls and he spent a whole boat-load on airfare, hotels, and fancy dinners to no avail.
The person who might give some info on this whole mess is Matthew Chisholm at GEOS Victoria. This is the go-to guy, when Uri is hiding (*cough, cough*). Or he might just blow smoke, get really impatient, and hang up on you. Just saying from inside experience. But try...
That list you posted. I know all of those people very well. They are all hard working, very decent and professional people. I am happy to work for and with them. GEOS is a great company to work for, and those people are part of the reason why. Just because you don’t have a job, or because things in your own region did not go well, does not mean the individuals running successful GEOS operations elsewhere, should be subject to the lies and nonsense you post on here. Why don’t you just go and get a job, instead of trying to pull successful people, down to your own miserable level?
Anybody who is not a Geos
Anybody who is not a Geos employee wouldn't know these people from Peter, Paul and Mary anyway, so why publicise their names at all? Just more out-house amusement for the in-house crowd - to the extreme boredom of everyone else.
I worked for GEOS for quite some time. It is NOT a nice company or ethical one. If it was, there would not be blogs like this with all the bad information and blood spilled on them. GEOS is a dirty
Times Square, you sound like a GEOS company stooge. Hence why you still work for such a dirty, failing company. If you have not figured this out and still slugging away in the failing machine, there probably is no hope of changing your mind or stubbornness. All the smart, ethical people left a long time ago, hence why GEOS is bankrupt.
As for Mathew Chisholm, the very fact that he is so close to Uri makes it inevitable that he is not a good person. I never worked directly with him, but have met him and others who have worked for him. You hear things and many times in this company they are true.
8:50 Postings in here are not necessarily made for your entertainment or "amusement." If you haven't read the title of this thread, it is pretty specific to GEOS NA. Deal with it. Just do not read anything in here if you do not like it.
Names being outted by certain individuals on here are done for a reason. These people are still at GEOS and probably drew a lot of bad blood with these people in the past. I guess you could say it is coming back to haunt them. The names listed are not innocent people, even if they smile and shake your hand. I have heard enough stories from several past GEOS staff members, at several locations throughout NA that can support them being called out on here. Why else would they be targeted and others not mentioned? Obviously there is something..................
I think I can shed light on why Matthew Chisholm was named on here. You see, he is the counter to GEOS Vancouver for Uri. Uri Carnat and him are pretty close, and this came about after Uri got into a tiff with the female head of GEOS Vancouver at the time. She did not agree with Uri and his "strategy", and rebuffed him as she should given she was the head and he only a manager of a little school. I think Uri saw her as an obstacle to his outright control of the GEOS NA "empire", so he was pissed and formed an alliance with GEOS Vancouver's neighbor and manager, Mathgew Chisholm to get her out of there.
The sad part is, after starting GEOS in NA (first school and manager), and working tirelessly to build GEOS into a semi-successful NA operation, she was made the decision to resign after the undue pressure and gossip train from Uri. She was probably the only ethical cog in the big GEOS machine in NA. She was a true educator, while Uri was the used car salesman. She rightly got the heck out of there and left Uri Carnat to create his own mess to clean up.
This is why these people's names keep coming up. And there is much more........
Good to see a very emotional current GEOS staff member on here right now. You got caught! No one else in this world, especially those that claim to not care about these unknown names, would respond that way. Nice to see you on here.
Thanks, oldCPA. Chime in anytime you feel it is relevant. Same with a couple of others I know on here that are currently inside GEOS or have worked for them. I have heard a few rumblings, nothing concrete yet given the lock down on info since the whole GEOS Ottawa leak fiasco. But one item could be interesting, but I really need more facts and corroboration from insiders.
As for the "idiots", my take is that one person from GEOSgot on here and tried to control the flow information, including leaks. Some tried to counter his rant, accusations, and misinformation, and succeeded. Shawn rightly removed these posts, as I am sure he has a pretty good idea of where and who they came from.
Back on topic:
Where are the ex-GEOS Hawaii staff? We would love to hear from them in regards to the closure of their school, their stories on the closure process, etc. If you had to sign Non-disclosure agreements, then say so. We will understand; we heard a rumor you might have had to to do this.
Until then, I will clear up the list of names that has appeared on here from time-to-time. The following are the people everyone should be focusing on in figuring out what is going on at GEOS NA:
- Matthew Chisholm
- Matt Darr
- Uri Carnat (and you could say Brianna in LA knows a bit because of him)
The others really do not matter. They are just puppets, slaves, and ignorant or stupid GEOS workers.
Back on Topic
If you don't mind, let's keep the subject of thread about GEOS NA. While the earthquake is a terrible tragedy, I've removed the posts. You can always use the to if you wish to talk about it.
Thanks.
Shawn
Couldn't agree more Shawn, and thanks. There are people out there, who want to divert attention away from the all important GEOS NA topic, and to shut this channel down, as being the most valuable source for GEOS NA insider information. I strongly suspect they used the earthquake tragedy to push their agenda, and thank you for having the common sense, to see straight through, and delete their posts.
GEOS sinks to new lows
Yes, I suspect it too. GEOS head office stooges, using the tragedy in New Zealand, to divert attention away from themselves. Insightful deletion of posts Shawn. Insightful. How low can GEOS NA sink? Talk about the lowest of the low.
What's your input, oldCPA? Please chime in.
I second 13:47. Great to see
I second 13:47. Great to see Shawn react quickly to someone at GEOS looking for an opportunistic way to take over this thread. They have tried before, but good to see it not working out for them
The post at 6:21 is very interesting and probably what got them to try and control this thread. It always seems the leaks that expose a couple of names is when we see these kind of tactics.
They cannot stop the leaks
They will try anything. But the leaks will keep coming. Drip, drip, drip, drip.... ;)
I am happy to see the inflammatory GEOS staff posts got removed. They have to deal with it, that's all. ;-)
Post 11:09 is the real deal. I worked for GEOS Team West (yup, we have teams!) for quite some time. Met a bunch from GEOS Team East. You should've heard the gossip. We all knew what was, and is, going down, but just had our coded language to keep things tight-lipped and our jobs safe. Of course, we can also smile and nod too. :-D
Ha Ha Ha ! I knew it! That confirms my suspicions all along that there are some pretty heavy handed and nasty work politics happening in GEOS NA! I knew it! What kind of an organization is it? Unbelievable! And you know what? The image they sell is that that GEOS NA is a nice and happy place!
Is there anyway of getting a legal angle on the contradiction between happy family image projected, and the reality that there are to the contrary some serious politics being played? I mean, is it legal to have such a gaping contradiction?
More leaks please. Keep em coming! ;)
I am actually more interested
I am actually more interested in why no company in the world has offered to buy GEOS NA even though. We know it is bad, but is it really that bad?!
ILSC is kicking GEOS butt all over the place. ILSC just bought and re-opened two schools in Australia. GEOS already retreated from there. ILSC is offering extensive new work programs, while GEOS mutters along with dated brochures and programs. Honestly, the market will take care of GEOS soon. Especially when no one will even buy them at the bargain basement rate in bankruptcy.
:-) :-) :-)
GEOS Team West was always way cooler. Ha, ha!
Politics in GEOS? Nah...No way! (?) Ha, ha....Absolutely. But judging from the post by the king of GEOS at 8:41, it looks like the leaders have lost control and are stooping to bickering and petty, sad attempts to disrupt this board. Even that is not working for them. The end is definitely near...
Looks like Uri Carnat is the Colonel Gaddafi and Matthew Chisholm is Hosni Mubarak of the GEOS world. We all know what happened/ is happening to them. LOL
Still miss those Special K "team-building" video messages! What a f-ing joke. It is nice to work for a REAL company now.
What's the real story?
Actually, of course a stained name is hard to sell. The theory, in the Language teaching world, that despite a history of bankruptcy, that a “brand name” still holds value, is total BS. First thing GEOS NA should have done, is spent $50 to REMOVE the word GEOS from their company name. Reason Australians are pissed off, is because Australian operation folded due to money being siphoned off (diverted where for actually what is the question – noting, where it ultimately ended up, is the KEY, not where is was reported to have ended up – from bank account A to bank account B is only scratching on the surface – try C, then D, then……..the whole alphabet). Australia folding was not through financial mismanagement of the Australian core business unit itself. The reason I have expressed frustration in here, with the quality of LEAKS, is because, really, no-one, “in-side” has been able to state, with any real evidence, what actually happened, or has started an investigative path, to truly on-cover what happened.
Frustrated, you all just throw dung at the hopeless sods still working there.
I personally don’t buy the story “Money was diverted to Australia to support the ailing mother company in Japan”.
It could well be “As it became clear Japan was folding, owners diverted money from Australia to NA and Japan, and laundered it into their own pockets (the last giant feast). Living in fear of criminal conviction in Japan, they maintained NA operations, and diverted some cash to it, hoping to fast track permanent residency in NA, extradition laws existing between Japan and NA, but being rather soft, with regards to corporate matters.
Your last paragraph is quite
Your last paragraph is quite close. Actually, last year there was a lot of the money laundering details on here. Some were direct and some would only be understand by people who had experience inside.
a) money was ordered out of Canada by Special K. Uri Carnat, while wanting to hold onto to all that cash, did the loyal thing and funneled it back. He ordered other managers to do the same.
b) GEOS Montreal, under Uri Carnat, sent a bunch of money to GEOS Turkey. Supposedly to pay taxes owed to the government (or perhaps a Turkish loan shark), but some believe that is was then re-diverted to Mr. K himself. No one ever followed up on that tax bill being paid or not.
c) GEOS NA schools had to usually send $5,000 a month back to Japan, even though Uri Carnat emphatically denied this by stating in the GEOS Australian fallout pressers that all GEOS regions are completey "independent financially," Suuuuure they are. Whny was money ordered out of GEOS NA schools during the collapse and why did they pay money to Turkey? Explain,...Anyone? Anyone from GEOS NA? Anyone.
Well, nothing much can be done, I tend to think
You know what, at the end of the day, in terms of any criminal investigation……………..while the money seems big to you guys, to any authorities, they would consider it small fry………my belief is that any government agency who may consider an investigation would be thinking something like………… “To thoroughly audit the whole international money trail, and the numerous accounts, we would need to dedicate an international team of 21 people for a two year period, and at the end of it, will probably only get a suspended sentence and a USD5000 fine imposed anyway”
Assume the “suspicions” are all true – well, the only justice people will get will be when the place folds, in my opinion, and there are, unfortunately, bad and very good people, who will suffer in that process.
Because it is such a stained name, I believe the process is inevitable anyway.
I therefore conclude, the only thing you guys achieve on here, is antagonizing those managers who may have played a part, probably unwittingly, in assisting the alleged Japanese crooks.
While you may not like them, I am sure, blinded by addiction to bitchy ladder climbing corporate ass kissing crap, they had little idea of the possible depth of the illegality they may have been engaging in…………and that having been said, like them or hate them, they could also be considered to be simply additional victims of the putrid grand Eikaiwa Con.
If the suspicions are true, then morally, they should come clean, and state what they understand to have happened, but of course they probably won’t, because they no doubt live in fear of being implicated in any criminal investigation.
I frankly doubt, they knew what they were doing, and bought hook, line and sinker, what ever Japan told them, and acted accordingly.
Why don’t they just quit you might ask?
Well, they probably have houses to pay off, kids to feed…………and live in fear of being “branded” damaged goods, and thus don’t rate highly their prospects elsewhere….
9:48 Great, honest post. I
9:48 Great, honest post. I agree with most.
Some managers can claim ignorance due to the GEOS decision tree and lack of. Most were just bogged down and overwhelmed with excessive demands for sales and other ridiculous admin. demand (daily report, anyone) from HO in Japan and NA. But not all can claim ignorance or lack of deep inside knowledge in the GEOS empire of scheming. Two of the most common names posted on here had full knowledge and were active participants in the ponzi scheme to varying degrees. Claiming to juts be "following the rules" or "paying the bills" is a load of crap, as people like the current head honcho of GEOS NA were juts dirty, back-stabbing, ladder-climbing ass kissers. Scheme and smile, and they will move to the top! Yeah, how far did it get them?
The government is hamstrung by investigative budgets to small for this mess and the Canadian government and revenue service is completely lost and too politically correct to go after a Japanese outfit, as most know in Canada. Those at the top know this, but still have been biting their finger nails, and maybe rightly so. There are still other agencies that could get involved and time for more info to leak out. Open Hearts
The reality is GEOS is a very damaged brand. I wouldn't say they really had any brand name in the first place, Open Hearts wisely sad "no" to them and no one else has even come close to considering them. I am sure if they did Uri would be blasting it over every media outlet. The market is declining, the GEOS business model is all wrong, and staff are clueless or, if smart, have mostly left. Embassy and ILSC will eat GEOS for lunch, for sure.
If you are smart and hard-working, get out of GEOS fast or do not go near it. When they fall, there will be a flood of English teacher and language school administrative applications hitting the market. Do you think any competitor will seriously consider you?
It isn't just the big school like ILSC that are killing GEOS. Small schools, like Point 3 in Montreal, are starting to take it to GEOS bread and butter Mexican trade. The owner of Point 3 is on a trade mission to Mexico as we speak. GEOS manager? Let's just say he had to cut back on the all-expenses trips to Mexico and Colombia after the whole Open Hearts fiasco. Can't bode well that a small, one-school operation is doing really well in Mexico drumming up new business.
Another update,k Saudi enrollments through the King Abdullah scholarship program are dropping. Seems GEOS has not been able to meet the Saudi demands or ever-changing allegiances. A LOT of GEOS staff time and money was put into a huge suck-up operation to the Saudi embassies, but now it looks like the whole gamble is faltering. Guess it is off to Brazil now to save the operation with all those tuition pre-payments.
I should imagine you are quite right – big schools and small schools, without the stain of being associated with GEOS, are no doubt throwing up competition, and winning the contest.
Complaining about GEOS or any other places sales executives having their overseas business trips paid for is just moaning and whining. It’s bog standard, normal, and accepted common business practice. If all expenses paid overseas trips were what you want / wanted, then you should have climbed the GEOS ladder. Frankly, I would have forgone the overseas trips, just to avoid the ladder, myself.
I would say, with uncertainty in the Middle East, enrollments from the Middle East for any school, period, would be dropping off. That having been said, however, I would also expect, Saudi interest would have to be limp, following the collapse of broader GEOS. It would only be natural, for any-one wanting to invest time or money, to be highly concerned about the recent history of greater GEOS, and thus adopt a highly conservative and cautious stance. So, as far as Saudi goes, I would say it is a case of a double whammy.
I would expect that BRAZIL would also be adopting a highly conservative and cautious stance with regards to GEOS. I don’t think, in wider industry circles, there is any secret about what happened to greater GEOS. I think the biggest mistake that was made, following the broader collapse, was holding onto the GEOS name. It would have been more sensible to morph into a new entity entirely, with no hint of any link to GEOS train wreck.
So, in summary, looks like status quo unchanged. “How much longer?” is the six million dollar question on most people’s minds I guess.
Hopefully they can dig hard and save a few people their jobs, but I would not bet my money on a successful outcome.
To add a few comments to the
To add a few comments to the posts above...
What corporate ladder? If there was any, the rungs on it have been broken off a long time ago. There is only person who jaunts around the globe in GEOS these days and he answers to no one really except maybe that Special K video artist guy. Sure, good business require paid business trips...Just some people add a few special trips here and there for their personal pleasure/ ego under the guise of "standard business practices" (while scheming and scamming out of paying creditors and the like). I am sure you can figure it out.
Keeping the GEOS name was pure ego of two men at the top. One started the company while the other screwed it up further. They are still holding onto a very delusional dream of grandeur and fame. GEOS has "550 school globally", don't you know?! ;-) They are still in the that mega-multi-international-super-ego complex. So, yes, changing the name either independently or through acquisition would have probably served them well, just do not expect rational thought.
It will be nice when the smiles and fake handshakes do not work anymore, and the chain goes bell up...as "GEOS"...and thus the nightmare will be over.
If I were GEOS, I would have changed the name, then sent people across the globe, trying to drum up business (those trips quite naturally fully paid for). Mistake they made, in my opinion, was to stick with the GEOS brand, which is why, it would seem, those canvassing trips you report have failed.
Pretty stupid, looking back at it all, actually. One would have thought, the attempts to breath air into Nova corpse would have said “don’t go down that path”. Anyway, in many ways, Japanese are like sheep, but in this case, it would appear, more like lemmings.
You hate them I guess, but I feel sorry for those GEOS managers left with the task of trying to flog off a positive image about an essentially decimated / reputation destroyed place. I would not like to be assigned the task. Pretty soul destroying stuff, actually – the equivalent of being assigned “mission impossible”, I tend to think.
“How did your junket trip going honey? Any good news?”
“Well, nice hotel, a few good meetings etc etc, but otherwise, a total failure. I don’t know how much longer I can keep turning up, to flog this dead horse. Staff hate us, there is an army of people who got burned by Japan wanting to burn us alive at the stake, the company name is in tatters, and yet we are being flown around the world, being told to “sell, sell, sell”. I really hate this job. I really do. Damned if I do, damned if I don’t. It’s killing me inside, it really is. I could not even enjoy the sightseeing, because of the expectation and tension”
“Well, just think of me and the kids, and do your best. Has the recruitment agency come back with any news yet?”
Bla Bla Bla Bla
Point being, I think your apparent belief that GEOS NA is run by an evil band of predominantly Caucasian assholes with no soul, it most likely total bullshit. A bunch of annoying yes-men with no choice but to try to remove the “impossible” out of the words “mission impossible”, more like it.
Nobody said "Caucasian
Nobody said "Caucasian assholes" anywhere...Have an inferiority issue you would like to discuss with us? The last time I checked their were quite a few woman at the helm of various school and a whole lot of non-white staff at the sad little academies.
And if it is "impossible", then why are those "innocent" ones looking for a more morale company? And I am not talking about the GEOS Regional Director who submitted his name to a recruiting agency. Warning sign, anyone?
It's beside the point. Remove the word Caucasian, if you wish.......
There are not entirely "innocent" either, but I think certainly, they are not the demons that the lynch mob would like the general public to believe....
You should relax, because sooner or later, you will be able to pop that champagne cork, I am sure.
"They"? Care to clarify who these demons are?
I only think one or two of them would classify as demons...Some are just ignorant, others stupid or just do not give a damn.
When do you think the champagne bottles will be uncorked?
Here we go, into March and the sun is peaking out from behind the snow clouds and they made it through winter. U no wot, reckon they've got another year in them, those boys 'n girls in Canad and US that u all luv so much.
No, I will leave the re-publishing of names to others – pretty tiresome stuff, reading the personal gripes, over and over and over again………
When? That’s anyone’s guess, but I think it is inevitable the place will fold, unless there is some kind of miracle.
I wouldn’t like to have the job of trying to turn it around, that’s for sure.
Hideous and stressful job, trying to achieve the impossible, don't you think?
It is okay, I am one up on the GEOS NA leaks. You see, I talk with a Japanese admin. woman at GEOS Montreal (GEOS NA HO) and her Canadian husband. Also, I always hear rants and gossip from a guy that runs an outside travel company for their student trips that provides services to GEOS Montreal. They both say basically the same thing, and since they are inside or at the school a lot, they can and do tell me current student numbers, payment issues, employee gossip, etc. From what they have told me, I would not say they are out of the woods yet in regards to the slow winter. Seems only some schools are paying the bills, the other ones dragging the whole operation down. They might make it by barely covering the bills, but who says a bankruptcy director won't pull the plug suddenly one day? All that work for nothing.
One thing the guy with the travel company mentioned that was very interesting was many of GEOS Montreal students were somehow being siphoned away by some new small school. While I am not familiar with this school, supposedly it is located in the same couple of block radius as where the Japanese admin lives....Even better, the staff member is a friend of one of the JAPANESE owners! Hmmmm? I haven\t had the guts to question her directly about this little piece of info because I am not close friends, but maybe she is just smart and has an exit strategy (or a little money on the side to make up for minimum wages). Can't be good when it seems your own employees are selling you out and your business partners talk crap about you. Only time will tell...
GEOS Montreal leak?
Wow, I thought I was the only one who knew about those two individuals and their gossip/ leaks. Guess not?
Leaks........
They try in here ALL the time to stop the leaks, but THEY can't stop the leaks, no-body can stop the leaks!
Drip, drip, drip....... ;)
What say you oldCPA? Anything to add :)
Drip, drip, drip........;)
Who the hell are you? Either tell yourself or shut up. If you work under me you are done. We will find you, whoever you are leaking all this!!! I will find you.. Matter of time. So funny to expose stuff abut people? Yup, maybe for all of a few days until I find your ass and fire you!!! And probably sue you. f-ing aa-hole!
I think the funniest part is the Regional Director's name showing up prominently on Google when you type his name in a search. Go past the LinkedIn account and whola...LetsJapan with all the Uri gossip is listed a bunch of times on the first page. The more people post on here (like the drip, drip idiot) the more Google will rank it higher. Keep it coming. No amount of SEO money will stop the negative posts about the guy being ranked the highest.
Type in Google: "Uri Carnat"
Type in Google: "Uri Carnat" GEOS. You will see why the guy is pissed and on here (or his compadries) all the time bashing Shawn and others. Great to see LetsJapan.com ranked so high on Google, though...
*smile*
Who the hell are you? You think you can stop the leaks? No. You can't stop the leaks. NOBODY can stop the leaks. Drip, drip, drip..........;)
Wow, 14:55 poster is back. The insecure Mr. Drip, Drip. Must have found another computer, eh? Guess you are not banging enough J-tail lately so you are on here crying and moaning. Sad part is you do not get it when someone is getting your goat by purposely posting certain names and words on here from time to time. Gets you fired up every time, but you can't even figure it out. Damn, you must be that Mathew Chisholm guy. Sounds like something he would do from all those posts we read before about him.
14:55, I feel sad for you. You definitely are someone's puppet...just getting strung along by one or two posters on here. They obviously are bothering you by your postings. The rest of us see, too bad you seem unable to.
Ha, ha! I love that this
Ha, ha! I love that this thread is getting more attention. Working perfectly! Was dying off there for a bit, but now everyone is back on wondering what all the yakking about.
Thank, Drip, Drip. You must be really mad at GEOS and the staff because you want so many people back on here reading every damn thing and pushing Lets Japan's damn Google ranking even higher. Good job, a-hole!
Hostmonster still makes me
Hostmonster still makes me laugh. Niall must have had a shit-fit.
Now, let's get back to what we we know:
1. GEOS sale to Open Hearts is OFFICIALLY DEAD. Uri = FAIL in that YouTube/ Facebook speak.
2. Most GEOS schools like Calgary, Costa Mesa, and Toronto are losing money. The others mostly fighting to survive, read: FORWARD CONTRACTS are yummy! Creditors could pull the plug anytime.
3. Is their anything good to say about GEOS? We all know what happened to NOVA...Still searching for something good...
4. Talking about Uri Carnat or Mathew Chisholm, or anyone closely connected to them, on Let's Japan will pretty much guarantee some idiot tries to disrupt the board....to no avail. Talk about anyone else in GEOS NA and you get no response. Figure it out from there.
5. OPEN HEARTS will NOT buy GEOS because of too many accounting irregularities, missing info, and poor reputation/ brand issues. Oh, wait, didn't I pretty much say that in #1? Sorry. ;-)
6. GEOS NA staff continue to leak, rant and rave on here, even if it just sometimes simple info. Post 14:19 shows you how much it is crumbling in the GEOS world with staff and friends gossiping like a Sex & the City episode.
7. Usually a lucky number....Not for GEOS NA.
8. (th floor) Sorry, only an insider would get it... ;-) GEOS TEAM WEST is still the BEST. Deal with it. GEOS TEAM EAST could not do shit if their life depended on it. We all know the centre of the GEOS NA universe revolved around GEOS Vancouver and all its leadership, guidance, and profits. And, yes, Mathew Chisholm is a douchebag but let's just say he doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things given he runs the smallest, most useless school in the GEOS chain.
That pretty much sums things up, boys and girls...
Cheers!
Thinking about the Hostmonster e-mail leaks made me laugh, too. They went on for so long and nobody realized it at GEOS. We were all reading their e-mails like it was a daily tabloid. Really goes to show you how inept GEOS NA was and is. Glad to see Niall still has his job though, even if only for puppet reasons.
Alex, do you have anything to add from Germany?
GEOS Montreal newsletter/ tabloid is up. Only 212 "students" this month. What, not 245!?!?! Ha, ha! 212 actually means about 60 total students at any time in the month, coming, going, overlapping contracts, one hour of private instruction, staff that show up as students, and all the GEOS ways of padding things that led to the Open Hearts purchase failure.
Better yet, they announced several new English teachers. Yup, in the quiet winter when you have that much turnover things can't be good. Not a great place to stay, I guess. The turnover problems continue.
Check out the Agent
Check out the Agent newsletter, too. Seems someone at HO has been on here reading our expose of the nationality and student number b.s. statistics. So they now post the b.s. in table format. Maybe it is time we contact their agents to correct their b.s. statistics.
And they do it again!
Looking at their nationality mix for February, of which they are very proud and they should be with 38 nationalities, I note the following: it only adds up to 96.75%!!! (lol)
When you are simply making up figures, golden rule 1 is to check that you have got it right.
Perhaps they forgot to include those telephone enquiries of students who want to start their course in 2012 which of course would form part of their nationality mix. Anyone who simply mentions the word GEOS Montreal is included in the mix!
Golden rule 2: as you are being watched so carefully, you should make sure that whatever you release is 100% accurate...96.75% simply will not do!
What a joke they are.
Exactly! Saw that mathematical error, too. Then again, when your fearless leader barely got a Philosophy degree from a second-rate institution, forget all those number thingies. LOL
212, eh? Maybe I need to send a spy to take a photograph of the 6 (not 13!) classrooms (one is a two-person private instruction room, so not even a "classroom"!) and all those "212" students. Oh, wait they include phone "contact" and pre-registered (even if unpaid) students, one-hour lessons, staff that take lesson, the janitor, rounded to the top, etc., etc.
No wonder Jenny at Open Hearts said "no" to Mr. Carnat after doing her due diligence. You can only fake it so far. No wonder no other company has come forth to be evenly remotely interested in buying the GEOS NA operation/ pyramid scheme.
A company as secret and mischievous as GEOS would never. Do you know why they are reporting this? THESE ARE THEIR FORWARD CONTRACTS (what they are calling "students")!!! The month of February provides the HIGHEST numbers to promote in their literature, even if all these registrations and agent promises do not all pan out or tuition is refunded at a later. I know, I used to tally these numbers for one of the schools on a monthly basis when I worked at GEOS. Watch, in June or July they will not show that table at all in their newsletters, because the "student" numbers will be so low (forward contracts for slow winter season).
And, yes, those numbers are definitely padded as so many of you have already figured out. Wow, this company still hasn't changed. Glad to be out of it.
If anyone is counting,
If anyone is counting, Jennifer the Academic Coordinator at GEOS LA- Costa Mesa just quit. Yup, suddenly she decided to move on. *wink, wink* Another Academic Coordinator bites the dust.
Never knew about the lastest jump ship. Am sure Geoff and Karen will have a few comments, though. What's your thoughts Alex? Brian reckons most people have been applying like crazy for jobs elsewhere for months.
They really are great at double counting...perhaps this explains why they have such wonderful numbers.
I noticed that in their Feb nationality mix, they have counted Mecixo twice:
Mexico: 7.62%
Korea and Mexico: 7.55% each
They have to be the masters of b/s! How can they be taken seriously?
10:37 There are more quitting and re-shuffling at GEOS NA in the last month or so. You do not have to have inside info to see it. Just check all the new faces and names on all the school newsletters, etc. Turnover in key positions seems to be going up again. What does that say?
It is not just the regular staff members that probably have their resumes out there...Top "management" in Montreal has his in a recruiting agency. Looks like the future is oh-so-bright... *rolls eyes*
All you have to do is find the schools that did not get newsletter updates this month...They are probably the same ones who haven't touched their Facebook pages in a long time. Understand?
Oh, the head honcho in Montreal is off to Japan to start his agent-pleading tour. One last tour around the world in the name of GEOS and then you never know what might happen. Understand?
Mr Regional Director, you need to take control.
GEOS Vancouver has only 10 nationalities compared to your 38. WHY?
GEOS Victoria states 'access denied' to their newsletter. WHY?
GEOS NY last newslettter was in Nov 2010. WHY?
GEOS Calgary newsletter page states 'Coming soon'. WHY?
GEOS Costa Mesa has 19 nationalities compared to your 38. WHY?
GEOS Ottawa's last update was April 2010. WHY?
Mind you, they seem to have made it thru the long cold winter and now it's Spring and a youg Korean's fancy turns to, yes, English study in America...yeh!
Yeah, but with Canadian
Yeah, but with Canadian dollar not as shitty as it once was and some Canadian language school image problems, many Koreans are seeking a "better education and experience" in the United States. Study in a U.S. school has more cache for most Korean parents. So maybe it will boost the U.S. GEOS schools more than anything.
Nobody said they made it yet. Judging from those froward contract numbers we see posted as "students", they do not look that good for the "high season." Time will tell.
Exactly! The hard work has paid off, and they have limped through the off season. From now, in language industry terms, tis the season to be merry! This will go down in history as one of the greatest turn-arounds ever!
Oh, look! It is thy master...No, no....Master!!! The Prez speaks...err...Regional Director, I mean. He gives his parting words prior to departing for another all-expenser to Japan and all the other ICEF conferences. Don't expect any nice hellos from Jenny. She said "no!" to your buyout dreams; get over it!
Slaves worked hard, too. You should be so proud, Master.
P.S. We all know that "massive amazing unbelievable turnaround" is your new slogan for your business school resume application. Too bad they still will not let you into that program with the shitty degree you got.
Yes, fair call. Despite the leaks, despite the slanderous comments, they made it through the off season, and are well positioned for the peak in-take season. I am one of the ones who got sucked in. I honestly believed the leaks were going to bring the place to it’s knees, but obviously, the consumers were wise enough not to fall for it, unlike me. Talk about a turn-around. Hats off to them.
You actually think we are going to believe the post at 8:20 is somehow separate from the post at 7:57? Come on, we are not fooled by your sad propaganda attempt. Winter isn't even over and we have seen no financial records to properly assess the situation GEOS currently encounters. Why so secret? Show the financial statement, GEOS! What you scared of? Last I checked GEOS was not declared to be out of bankruptcy and Jenny Nieveen (Open Hearts) shot down GEOS because she obviously thought is wasn't a good buy.
In statistics, to get an accurate number/ average (something GEOS knows nothing about), you drop the extreme numbers - highest/ lowest - and then average things. In this case, the totality of the posts in the last few days shows things are not good and many questions are going unanswered.
P.S. "Fair call" and "Warm Greetings" are typical Uri-isms in the GEOS NA world. LOL See ya in Japan, buddy!
are well positioned for the
Spoken like a true GEOS staffer.
What's your inside info to support this? What do you know (or not know)?
Judging by the "student" numbers released (highest "in-take" counting period via GEOS counting practices), things are not looking up. Maybe barely surviving, but not looking up. If they were looking up, why did GEOS Honolulu close?
I have to admit to you all that I have long been one of the GEOS doomsayers, believing collapse was inevitable.
But when you really think about it, they are still there, they survived the slow season, and survived the fall-out from the retraction in other countries, and well, they are now starting to build again.
Obviously the tough work done and persistence is paying off.
I don’t like them much, but I have to say, there will be a lot of people thankful for the effort made, and that the job losses have finally stopped.
Not sure which individuals to accolade for the turn-around. I guess it really was a team effort.
It’s just great to see, is all I can really say.
I really thought they were going down the gurgler. Great that they aren’t.
Honolulu close encouraging sign
I heard that closing Hawaii was a sound commercial decision, based on a number of factors, such as:
(a) Japanese tourism in and travel to Hawaii has generally collapsed, with Hawaii no-longer being such a disproportionally favored destination of the Japanese. There are ample statistics around that demonstrate that.
(b) GOES Hawaii relied on mainly Japanese students
(c) Current Japanese younger generation is not as “go abroad” hungry as previous. This is a well established phenomenon.
(d) Japanese economic down-turn. You can read about the Lost Decade quite easily.
I think whoever took the decision to close GEOS Hawaii, and focus elsewhere, deserves a promotion, because it was a very sound business decision to take.
Very sensible. Very sensible indeed. It just goes to show, what a team of dedicated professionals, are running the show, behind the scenes. It really gives me faith in the future of the company, actually.
“Hats Off”, well hey, you got that right!
8:51 Ah, so you ARE admitting GEOS had a bad strategy?
- Why did GEOS not GEOS see the big collapse (b.s.) coming? oh, wise GEOS...
- Why did GEOS rely mainly on Japanese students if it new that was a dead market? Proves GEOS doesn't know what it is doing for sure...
- Blame Japanese #2
- Blame Japanese #3
- Blame GEOS, a Japanese company!
- Can't blame the Japanese because GEOS is so mixed in nationality! Haven't you seen the GEOS agent newsletter tables??? LOL
Looks likes someone is talking out of both sides of their mouth...Or just setting up the board "positively" for the agent at ICEF. Dirty Uri Carnat is back!
Maybe you can answer this post while you are at it:
I think it was a really sound commercial decision to close Honolulu too. It just goes to show, the company has the right people at the helm, and is heading in the right direction. Would have been a tough decision for the big brass, but business is all about taking tough decisions. Good to see the company has the right people, in the right jobs, to head the company in the right direction. I am really fired up about the future potentials. Any news of a float coming up? Would love to get in on ground level, and buy some shares.
Here comes Summer
Gotta be fair, we mightn't like the company or it's executive but seems as if they will at least make it thru 2011. And who knows what the year will end like for the industry...might see boom times again. Time for a decent bonus for the team, methinks.
With GEOS Hawaii closing because of a failure to pay the bills, which school is next?
Let's vote which schools will close first:
- GEOS Calgary - no newsletters or life online. No agents talking about this school. Empty classrooms. Tons of closing gossip for quite some time, probably only delayed due to long lease agreement that the landlord will not budge on.
- GEOS Victoria - small, no real hope seen especially with GEOS Vancouver nearby. Newsletters stopped. Activities Calendar stopped in March 2010.
- GEOS Costa Mesa - with the bigger GEOS LA - South Bay, which just moved to a new location, why is Costa Mesa still there competing for dwindling student numbers? Maybe not for long.
- GEOS Toronto - biggest city in Canada, but also the biggest competition in the Canadian market. Much better schools with much better facilities are competing for student dollars in this cut-throat market. GEOS-leaks showed us last year that GEOS Toronto is losing cash hard. Canadian dollar is not helping keep students there. School hasn't produced a newsletter in quite some time, although the Activities Calendar is up this month...Or maybe they are just faking it.
- GEOS New York - New York, you say?! No way! Yes, way...We all know Michael ran the operation in tip-top shape. That's why he defected to the bigger and better ELS school chain in that fine city a while back. Key indicators of possible problems: a) limited updates on the Web site, including no Activities Calendar update since Nov. 2010, b) NOTHING HAS BEEN POSTED ON THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE BY THE SCHOOL FOR 1.5 YEARS!!!!., and c) no Mike running things...GEOS NY has already downsized from two to one shitty little school, so what is next? We will see
Please rank the from first to last, with first being the most likely school to close next. Let's see who is closest and/ or really an insider!
Ha, ha! You have got to be kidding. SCHOOL MANAGER is a more exact title. In fact, check the Web site and Agent newsletter. That's his title.
It’s amazing. The show is turning around, and you executioners are in a frenzy about it. I really don’t like GEOS, but come on, when applause is due, at least have the common courtesy and grace to admit you have been defeated, and give credit where credit is due. You might not like the personalities involved (I don’t either), but they did it, despite all the pressure, bad press, and constant criticism. OK, it might be a case of suck eggs, the beast is still around, but people worked hard to turn it around, and should be commended for that. It’s a pretty amazing story, when you really think about it.
9:47 I call GEOS Calgary as the next to close. The others are a crap shoot.
With GEOS Honolulu closing, there is pressure on the little guy to close a Canadian school next to balance the portfolio. 5 schools in each country would be left, and we all know the shame GEOS Calgary is financially.
You are obviously not up to speed. Calgary is doing very well financially, in recent months, and is expected to expand. You been smoking crack? Calgary is the last place that will go.
10:42 ha, ha! you obviously
10:42 ha, ha! you obviously are clueless and can never provide proof to back up your ridiculous claims.
I call...
* GEOS Calgary, then GEOS Costa Mesa (sorry, Ed, your school has been talked about for a while)...GEOS NY has dropped badly, but they will keep it open for vanity purposes.
If GEOS was "doing well", you would not have seen GEOS Hawaii get shut down, Open Hearts stop their purchase negotiations, other schools would have come forward to buy the chain, and you would not have people on here selling the virtues of GEOS like a used car salesman over and over....Good companies do not need to do that; they sell themselves. Facts trump desperate propaganda attempts every time.
You GEOS idiots are not up to
You GEOS idiots are not up to speed. ILSC Canada is kicking your tail all over the place! And now some new school chains are moving into Canada. Only a matter of time before your sad GEOS schools closes.
ILSC, LSC, ILAC in Toronto and a new school chain (will not name it) is all that matters in Canada. ELS, along with many others, kills GEOS in the U.S.
GEOS Kicking Ass
You are all just green with envy.
You wanted to pull the place down, and rip it too pieces, and now the complete opposite of your expectations is happening, well you just can't help coming out with yet another round of without foundation nonsense.
"Look, look, the sky is falling in, the sky is falling in, please, please, everyone believe me, please".
You are all so boring and predictable. Students numbers are increasing, staff morale is up, and the future is bright is the reality, but oh no, people, look out, dark clouds are everywhere, and OH MY GOD, The Sky is Falling In, The Sky is Falling in.
Thanks to Uri and the team, it isn't.
Thank God they have done so well, and saved so many jobs, and will now, create many jobs.
Damn it is so easy to get
Damn it is so easy to get your little GEOS staffer complex up. Really, you are such a typical GEOS idiot. Really make the place and staff look as sad as so many have mentioned on here. Do you really think your ramblings and crying are going to change hearts and minds.
That, and you do not seem to have a job posting on here all the time. What, GEOS did not take care of you? No big pension? Benefits? They promised you they will give you some hours? Reality setting in?
I call Cost Mesa first
I call Cost Mesa first because that Uri character was always envious that our American schools were better run even with no assistance whatsoever from GEOS Japan.
I do not hold out much hope for GEOS in a year or two. No buyers lining = Death in the near future.
With GEOS Hawaii closing
I didn't see GEOS Hawaii closure coming, possibly because it was mostly off the map, so I do not know if my guess will stand up. My gut says Costa Mesa will close this year because of the obvious overlap and low student numbers. Something like onyl 100 forward contracts? Yikes!
Expansion
I forecast, over the next six months, four new schools opening. Demand is picking up, sales are picking up.
All looks good, unfortunately, for you.
Yeah, a few good inside sources, some on the 8th floor (no mention of names) have been talking about the inevitable expansion for the last two months. Despite what the BURN GEOS TO THE GROUND pack of clowns say, there is, after a long winter, quite a feel of optimism about the place these days. I am one up on you. I say six new schools opening in the next six months.
Thanks for the update EXPANSION. Please keep the leaks coming. The doomsayers will hate it. Just you watch!
You can try, doomsayers, but you can't stop the leaks........drip, drip, drip........;)
He he he he. Just look at today. The slightest suggestion of good news, and they have cranked up the anti-geos rhetoric 1000%.
What's the matter people? You scared the GEOS collapse you have all been so eagerly waiting for, is not going to happen?
You better work harder on your little on-line campaign, cause sales are up, the season is around the corner, and things are looking great :)!
Now look here. I'm a lot more
Now look here. I'm a lot more in the know than you are. I have plenty of information that would reveal your poppycock for what it really is. I'm afraid I can't release it all at once of course. I have to be careful. But don't worry. I'll have someting real big for you very soon. Stay tuned.
Latest Leak
Hawaii closure is only TEMPORARY. Word is out (deep inside source) that as soon as the Japan downturn picks up, they are going to re-open! And, a top management person was heard saying, could be as soon as next three months!
Drip, drip, drip.........;)
If it were expanding, then
If it were expanding, then why did another GEOS school just fail? GEOS Hawaii bites the dust!
8th floor is has more teacher turnover than McDonald's...I also heard their was better pay and less worker harassment, too. McDonald's is even renovating all their stores, while the 8th floor school sits in a closet with early 80s styling and technology. LOL
How is Germany?
