I got to admit I am pretty impressed. I wonder how well they would do there.

It is, rather, like McD's opening up a food canteen on campus.

However, an interesting development will be whether or not for-profit entities (meaning, they pay profits to stock holders, whether publicly listed or private equity) will move into the higher education sector in a big way. One way this might happen is if there is consolidation amongst for-profit 'senmon gakkou' etc. and the interests that control them start to take over troubled private universities and colleges. On the other hand, that might be a sucker bet--like private equity interests buying up golf courses and resorts in out-of-the-way places in Japan. No where near as cagey as getting the Japanese government to pay you take over a bank that the government ran into bankruptcy in the first place.

Then the next stage might be outside--most likely American--interests moving in on the private, for-profit HE already in Japan. Here come Kaplan and Laureate--if only they could communicate with the natives.

The Old Nova tried to affiliate itself with Tertiary Education abroad, left, right, and centre, and being from “exotic Japan”, half the universities did not have the common sense to take a close look at Nova, and if they did, would have divorced themselves from any association with them whatsoever.

This is just a ploy by G Con to make its shitty product look like it has some merit – how can the Nova product be crap, when they have a branch on campus at University? That's what the slime balls are thinking.

The Japanese Government needs to intervene, and introduce proper standards and regulations to monitor, police, and govern these language outfit charlatans – they clearly have no scruples at all, and will go to any length to deceive, cheat, and distort reality, in the name of a fast buck.

Both my roommate and I were called by G-Comm. gaijin staff today and offered "full-time employment opportunities in the Nagoya area" which is where we now live and previously worked at Nova branches. Neither of of us went back with G-Com. after the original closure.

First they were paying off instructors left and right to buzz off, and now they're backpeddling because they don't have enough? Honestly, who is managing this company, and do they actually expect people to go back at this point in the game?

Totally agree with the above post: just tell them to FUCK OFF! I was one of the many who went back believing their bullshit. Worked enthusiastically for a new start just to be told to get lost the moment my old nova contract was up. G-CUNT are just a bunch of motherfuckers, not even intelligent enough to know what they are doing. Say yes and accept their appalling work conditions and you'll be screwed once again as soon as they won't need you. Get a new job (plenty out there) and enjoy the sight of them going down the fucking drain very soon. Really, have some self respect and tell the many Craig, Gareth and Khan (MMC LS assholes) or the likes of them: FUCK YOU! YOU'RE HISTORY!

Is there anyone out there who is taking this company seriously. I have now had the rumor about the banks withdrawing their line of credit confirmed by Japanese staff members (one of who I am dating) who were told on the low-down by their area manager.

I was told that an optimistic forecast would be closure by the end of the summer. This of course depends on how long they allow Nova to continue to drain money out of the company.

A company with business sense instead of ego would pull the plug now according to our branch staff. They are already making their escape plans. Meanwhile some guy from the company is in the newspaper talking about what a massive success it is going to be.

What is going on? I have only been here for a year but I had the notion that the Japanese were great business people who were honest and honorable.

If any students are reading this then it seems the Japanese staff are lying again or in a kind of informed denial. They know that G-com can't walk on water but they have faith in the cult of leadership and believe that they should go down like martyrs or quietly slip out the back of the church before it burns down.

Please anyone who is thinking about it, student or teacher, don't sign up with this company. They are lying.

If you really think they are going bankrupt is it possible to sign up for them work for a few months possibly till it goes bankrupt by summer and claim the hello work money again that would be awesome..

I thought somebody in this blog would like to take a look at the work conditions g-shit is currently offering to their employees. Recently instructors have received a letter outlining the company new working regulations:

- if you call sick without providing a medical certificate you'll get a 40,000 yen fine
- if you are late you'll be deducted the lessons you haven't taught plus a 20,000 yen or something (need to double check on this)

I know it sounds pretty like a joke, but this is what is going on at the moment. I will post the actual letter as soon as I get hold of it.

So, if you still think of signing up to this g-shit-con I suggest you to think twice, making snickers for adidas in Indonesia or sweaters for nike in Vietnam might secure you better work conditions.

If I had just got here, I would think that post was a joke or misinformation. However, after being here a while, I do not think so!

Honorable businessmen my arse (the new guy who posted)! There are some very well managed companies, mostly the big exporters that everyone knows about in the west. However, as a general rule, Japanese work and business practices can be pretty idiotic, wasteful and shady.

A weeks or more ago I got my termination letter from G. scum and a form to fill out for my final paycheck. I went to Hello Work today and talked to them about my situation. One of the questions I asked was about the form, whether to fill it out and send it in or not.

After a long conversation the upshot was I can get 150,000 yen from them for my standby 'work' + the 60% Nova pays me. I'll get it next week too! After I get that money I can go back to Hello Work, fill out the separation document from Nova and be immediately eligible for unemployment compensation from Hello Work!

On another note - has anyone ever gotten a doctor's note? I had to get one once and it cost 5,000 yen! That was 15 years ago in a small countryside hospital. I'll bet it costs a lot more now!

Does anyone here suppose the Chinese or Vietnamese or Malaysians etc. think the Japanese are excessively polite? I doubt it. It must be exclusively an anglo or European thing. If you were a small country and just got stomped and atom bombed by another country I suppose you'd be excessively polite too. Then if instead of taking over and treating you like scum the started shoveling truckloads of money at you to be their friend then you would really smile and bow. But now that treatment is coming to an end. Japanese nationalism is on the rise and the only bowing that will take place from now on will be to the tourists when they come and hand over their cash.

Income: 479,000,000+ yen
Overall Losses: 476,000,000+ yen

So G-Con would need to double it's current student number just to break even.

With the banks avoiding G-con where are they going to get this cash from every month?
