Being Scott W.

First of all, I want to thank Shawn and Chris for giving me the space on their site to tell my side of the story. I know that Chris didn't even believe I existed. He wouldn't agree to letting me put a story on the site unless he met me! We met at a bar in Kawasaki and he was like majorly shocked to see me.

Let me start at the beginning. Ha ha! That would be a long story! I'll start after graduation. I graduated and I started looking around for some kind of job. I went back to my home in SoCal and hung out with my buddies. One of my buddies had just returned from Japan and he was really pumped about it. He kept telling us about the great times that he had. He made a great case for going to Japan: people throwing cash around, lots of beautiful chicks, and adventure!

I saw an ad in the paper for a company called Nova and I applied. I had an interview and I felt good about everything. There were no negative vibes. Those guys knew their job, they knew what they were all about and what they wanted. I made a good impression, too. Next thing I knew I was buying a ticket for the Land of The Rising Sun. I had the song from "Indiana Jones" in my head for the whole flight.

Working for Nova isn't as bad as some people say. It's not the best place in the world to work but it's not so bad. Some of the company policy is crap but that's the way it goes. Managers have their jobs to do and I do mine.

I feel good going to work for Nova because what I'm doing isn't bad. I'm helping people learn English. I have fun with my students and my students like me. Some people focus on the shit and guess what? That's all they see. I try to focus on the good. I like meeting my students in class. We have good time.

I went to Thailand recently and it changed my life. When I was in the taxi going from the airport to my hotel in Bangkok, I passed by a group of kids playing soccer by the side of the highway. In all the filth and dust these kids were playing for their own World Cup. I thought, "That's the way to be! Are you going to sit around and let some guys ruin your stuff or are you gonna get the most of life?"

I met some Australians and we found our way to a beach. I go wherever the wind blows. I make friends wherever I go. I bought some keef and slept on a beach. Life is so good if we try. My week was spent like that.

Mr. Furious didn't like to be told to chill. Sorry about that. I didn't realize simple words could make you more furious. Take my advice, chilling isn't so bad, you make more friends. I've got some more advice for Mr. Furious, buy some rama, spark it and get mellow. It really does matter.

OK, I've go to get heavy again. There are things that bother me. Hump and dumpers who pick up their students. That's way not cool, guys. Also, sometimes I can't read the notes in the student files that other teachers wrote. How can anyone do their job when the handwriting is impossible to read? Some of the comments people leave there are totally useless, too. Do I explode? No! I just chill...

Finally, I've got to say, Propaganda has to be one of the best clubs in Roppongi. You've got to go there!

Adios, Amigos!

Scott
