thank You Very Much for your short film depicting life as it now is, shawn sensei. if you offer to give a short and sweet Eikaiwa Christmas Lesson whilst standing about all forlorn and shivering, by side-street style vending machines, it is possible to receive some drinks for lingo servicings, in return. last night i got gifted 3 mikan-shu chu-hai-s for singing jingle bells out of tune. i also recommend carrying a thermos in your pack - if you have them - or pick one up at dawn on non-burnable gomi day - as nice people in nice neighbourhoods are busy doing their End of Year Cleaning - aka - throwing all manner of useful goodies for homeless nova teachers - away.
tonight i stay in a dodgy dirty dangerous - ddd - internet cafe. tis - tune-in!!! --- pretty bloody warm, comfy, sort-a-safety - in-its-own-way (ie., no ID required) plenty a free drinks, byo alcho goodies gleened from bon-en-kai kaeri salarymen - stumbling along the way.

In the interest of providing you the following information as quickly as possible, the following message is an advance email copy of a letter sent to your home address:

Information regarding Re-employment with G.education

Thank you for requesting re-employment with G.education. Since taking over operations at Nova we have put all our efforts into proceeding with the reopening of branches. As a result, we expect to have approximately 130 branches offering Nova lessons during December 2007.
At the same time, the Trustees in Bankruptcy are making progress with dissolving Nova Corporation. At present they have started proceeding sequentially with terminating leases of properties which will not be taken over by G.education and the problem of unpaid wages. With the cooperation of property owners, we have managed to rapidly reopen many branches but now intend to more closely align branch reopenings with the current business situation. The process of opening the Ekimae Ryugaku branches and restarting lessons requires a lot of time, personnel and expense. To enable us to offer lessons even more quickly to students who still have unused lesson points, we will shift the focus of development from the branches to expanding Ochanoma Ryugaku lessons with a view to even opening new Multimedia Center facilities overseas.

In the current business situation, it is only possible for G.education to employ a limited number of instructors in January and while we appreciate your request for re-employment from January 10, 2008, it is with great regret that we inform you that we are not able to offer you a position at G.education at this time.

This has been a very difficult decision for G.education to have to make and we would like to offer assistance to all applicants, including information about other employment options or financial assistance with purchasing an air ticket to your home country. Additionally, the G.communication group has opportunities available in the restaurant industry and would welcome inquiries if you have an interest in this field. We will also continue to assist the Trustees in Bankruptcy with the necessary documentation for making applications for reimbursement of unpaid Nova Corporation wages.

While the current business situation makes this decision unavoidable, we hope to be able to contact you and ask you for your assistance if possible once business operations allow.

In our endeavor to continue Nova�fs business, we are constantly forced to make difficult decisions and, while our aim is to be able to have as many students as possible return to the branches and as many instructors as possible continue employment, it is with a heavy heart that I have to inform you of this decision and ask for your understanding.

And right before christmas and people making plans for the holidays. This is after they made options like 150,00yen and start in jan promise. I wonder in total how many people they actually hired verses the number of people that were "applied".

where do i start? a friend emailed me tonight to give me the heads - up on g - comm (maybe g.education). he said that they weren't intending to re - hire those who requested to start on jan 10, 2008.

ok, i thought, sure, just another bit of speculation. so i checked out letsjapan.com and i see this letter addressed to those who requested employment on jan 10. having studied business at college and university, and having a strong interest in this part of our society, i completely understand the environment in which a business operates. that said, i understand what g.education is up against; specifically, trying to get students to committ to the newly formed - previously run by nova - g.education branches. no easy task. and to reinterate, i completely understand how difficult this will be. i also understand that it may eventuate that they aren't able to provide the necessary jobs required to employ those who are waiting to be re - employed. what makes me angry, and i feel will go without being questioned, is that they lead me, and many, to believe that a position in this company, in japan, would be a certainty.

now, it would seem that this does not seem to be the case, and before you people who say "i told you so", jump to say it again, don't, it's not necessary, i know; i guess i just sub - consciously hoped it'd turn out better.

but one last thing before i motivate myself to commit to another job search, i just want to complain and say that when i went to the information session at nova's head office in shinjuku, i listened to alot of questions and answers; with the answers mostly being "i'm not sure". i asked one question regarding the legallity of options a & b: "what is this: is this (i think option b) a legal contract of employment; or is it a request for employment?" - i believe that my expression communicated that the the words would normally be interpreted pretty much how any average human being would interpret them. the spokesperson for nova/g.education insisted that it was a contract of employment, and thats how i should treat it. that being the case, i treated it seriously and mentally committed to g.education; and spent less time looking for another job. yes, a mistake. a part of me knew this would happen, but i decided, possibly because it was the easier option, to just wait, and start jan 10, 2008.

now it would seem i should of continued with my job search efforts and not looked at g.education as the saviour they portrayed themselves to be. they were irresponsible, and selfish in their motives; not giving enough thought to the potential consequences felt by many, who wouldn't get the work they previously believed they would.

please, if this doesn't read well, i apologise (i've also had two, maybe three strong gin & grape / lemon/lime sodas), but i'm angry. this is the first time in six months that i'm genuinely angry. i can dismiss one company's bad management, and it's disregard for its employees; but two companies in a row, just makes me angry, not to mention disheartened, and extremely dissappointed.

having been in a long - term relationship with a japanese girl for over one and a half years, it is with some reluctants that i say "i have increasingly very little respect for this country and the values it would have you believe it supports".

just let you all know all the people working at G.education have not signed any real employment contracts! so people working could be told at anytime that they would not be needed and are screwed with there 50,000.

Heh .. gotta say this has really got messy now. I mean it was messy before, of course. Remember this ain't only G-com's fault - from what I heard, the banks have refused to give loans because the number of instructors is an impossible business plan. Go petition MUFG, let's see how far ya get.
Another thing to remember - and this makes the whole thing smack of conspiracy theory to me - Japanese banks have made a full time business of giving shithouse loans for the past 30 years. And they're going to start looking at business plans *now*, when a few thousand foreigners are going to be kicked out of their beloved country?
And this is making it even more suspicious - banks are trying to collapse the new G-Nova or whatever it's called; banks, controlled by pollies, controlled by yakuza scumbags ... so are the yakuza finally sick of Nova teachers boinking the local talent? Sam & Daves you have a lot to answer for!
