So much for Nova dispatching ALTs to Osaka. According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, Osaka has decided to cancel its ALT dispatch contract with Nova citing the lack of teachers.
The contract was to supply 335 schools with teachers, but since Nova has been late paying its instructors, 20 schools have reported that teachers haven't been showing up for work. It seems that teacher action has produced some tangible results. Once other organizations start feeling the hurt, perhaps more pressure will be put to bear on Shashi to clean up the mess he's made.
Cash-strapped NOVA fails to honor contracts to public schools after teacher exodus
Scandal-hit major English school operator NOVA failed to dispatch English teachers to local public schools after many teachers quit or took leave because they didn't get paid, officials said.
By Monday, NOVA had cancelled its planned dispatch of English teachers to five municipal elementary schools and five municipal junior high schools at least once.
The education board is now considering canceling its contract with NOVA.
In the 2007 academic year, the municipal education board commissioned three English conversation school operators, including NOVA, to dispatch teachers to junior high schools and elementary schools under its jurisdiction, officials said.
NOVA is supposed to dispatch teachers to 79 junior high schools once or twice a week and to 286 elementary schools on several occasions a year.
However, NOVA, which has been in financial difficulty since some of its business activities were suspended in June by the government regulator over its illegal business practices, has failed to promptly pay wages to many of its teachers.
In response, a large number of NOVA teachers have quit their jobs or taken days off without prior notice. A shortage of teachers has forced NOVA to cancel the dispatch of some teachers to Osaka public schools, education board officials said.

yeah, right
You had it planned from the beginniing that you would be personally killing the ALT contract.
MORON!
Not only did you abandon the kids, you made westerners look greedy and lazy.
Why didn't you just talk to the school and negotiate a new contract with them.
Of course you probably did and forgot to mention that, or you couldn't and of course you tried.......
Schools are well open to picking you up off contracts. It's easier when you have come to the end of the old ones, but in these situations the door is open( if you're a good teacher that is ).
Didn't you think???
You should have cut a deal with the school. You are REALLY smart.
Regardless of how smart it
Regardless of how smart it might or might not have been to not negotiate, I don't think this makes foreigners look bad or lazy. If we don't work for free, it makes us lazy? Maybe he could've negotiated a direct contract, but there wasn't any such contract at the time. He stopped working for free. I think that shows a bit of intelligence. No?
As far as "abandoning the
As far as "abandoning the kids", they're not HIS kids! He can abandon all he wants. It's his job, not his family. No money equals no job, right? The Nova manager tried the same crap with me once when I refused to stay late to write comments after we lost our breaks.
First, I am an American, I am lazy and greedy!! Next, you think paying to go to work is a priority over feeding myself, just to better the image of foreigners???? You dumb bastard!!!!!!!!!!! What kind of fucked up bizarro world are you living in??? And I was working at 13 elementary schools in one semester asshole!! You think it's smart to try to negotiate 13 contracts for 6 fucking lessons per school just to try to equal my pay???? Yeah, great fucking idea Einstein!! Finally, as you attacked my teaching skills, did I not make it perfectly clear that I obtained a new position??? So Mr. Robwick, I will be receiving a paycheck in November, how about you?
Good for you chewing that
Good for you chewing that guy out.... I did my best to support you above. But ummm.... please change your name to "you're welcome"
Yeah! tell 'em bro'!
No wonder NOVA.........
OOPS
good lookin' out bro...yeah thats kinda pathetic....i fell face first into that one... it just goes to show the kind of quality instructors Nova hires...i fucked up but i am a good elementary school teacher i swear!!!!i usually don't make those mistakes but no one is perfect and that dude is still a douche!!! thanks for your help dude!
*beginniing*???
BEGINNING!
ALT`s returning to branch (yes, I know...)
WHat position have ALTs faced when going back to the branch? I have been told that my weekend (sat/sun) is cancelled and my days will change to Mon/Tues (1 weeks notice!), i will be on late shifts, if i want to come back!
My AAM would rather see us leave than have to deal with any paperwork, even though all his branches our closing or reduced to one teacher. He just cant help out one bit! We have been told to comply and yet we havent been paid yet, probably wont get paid and we are still being bossed around. Four of us have been told this and we are all made to feel that we are surplus to requirements!
Who else is in the same position?
We have been told that all
We have been told that all the schools in Kanagawa will close at the end of the month until further notice, by our manager. This is rather big news for us. I was wondering if any other areas have had any similar news.
The douche
That dude did talk to his school and negotiated a contract with them.
I guess he was that smart.
"beginniing" a typo, that's all you have for an insult. I guess you've never double tapped.
I worked for free and I feel like shit for it. I have a mortgage payment and 9000en in the bank. The difference is, think in the longer term rather than the here and now. It shows resourcefulness and the willingness to use your brain.
By the way, they may not be our children but they do form bonds.
They were abandoned. But than again, some people were "forced" into the ALT positions I guess.
Ok, flame on.
just remember, I have the job without the subcontracting and I barely speak Japanese. What's your excuse?
eh?
Where did I cap on your skills. I always thought "if" meant "if". You have a new job and pay coming in Nov, that's great.
The point is that you don't need to brag how you single-handedly brought down the monster.
I don't know about your area, but in Yokohama and Tokyo, the schools are controlled through the Ministry of Education, so you needn't negotiate at all 13 schools. If they were private institutions, that's a bitch then.
The main question is if people had tried.
As for pay, jobs and America... we have something in common.
You know, I'm to blame for all this vented anger.
I apologize. I realize that it's a difficult time for everyone, including myself. I should have just let it go.
accepted
That was very big of you wick to apologize and i too will man up and apologize for calling you a douche...I think I'm going to cry...its like 9/11 all over again Americans unite despite our different views...lets get under a blanket with some cocoa and watch "Sleepless in Seattle"...but seriously that was mighty big of you...thats why Americans kick fucking ass and everyone else sucks balls!!!
