The Asahi Shimbun is reporting that Nova has found someone to take over part of its business.
According to the article, of Nova's approximately 670 schools, Nagoya-based G Communication will take over 30 profitable schools with the aim of ultimately increasing the number to 200. It will not use Nova's system of pre-paid lesson fees. G. Communication said that it would like to employ approximately 2000 Japanese staff and foreign teachers. The students who decide to stay on will likely have to change the branch they study at.
Original article
Some more about G. Communication from Japan Economy News and Blog. As commenters have pointed out, there are no details about one very important matter: money. No word on who will get paid or when or even what will happen to those in Nova-sponsored apartments. notes that G. Communication will not accept responsibility for the liabilities for pre-paid lessons and canceled contracts. The new company is also very small meaning that at least half of existing Nova teachers are not going to be re-employed.
More information from Breitbart.com here. It seems that G.Communication runs EC Inc. in Hokkaido. You may recall this story warning about it.

Wow, hope they open the
Wow, hope they open the branches near burly first. HaHa
That's it then
Well so some few people if they are willing will get a job and the rest will be redundent soon. On to hello work.
Is this the long awaited miracle?
Whatever happened to not selling to a sponsor unless they can pay all teachers etc.
Nova is dead. This reincarnation will be different but it will still be weak unless it can find new people to feed on.
All I want is MY money. Hurry up and declare that I can't be paid or pay me. It's that fucking simple! Why are we still waiting for an answer? After they stop messing around we can start our wait of 6 to 12 months to get 80% from the government. Just hurry up and do something!!!
Hmmmmm......?.........
Where do the "teachers" fit into all of this? WHO????? WHICH ONES????? UNPAID SALARIES????? DEBTS????? NEW TEACHERS???? THINK THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS AHEAD!!!! DELAY TACTIC????? HMMMMM............. THE PLOT PLICKENZ!
Good news
I'm personally looking forward to watching the morons who've been salivating over the prospect of NOVA's collapse and the unemployment / impoverishment of thousands shut the fuck up and clear off somewhere else to lick the wounds done to their pride.
The question is.....
who will sell their soul to the devil!?!
Are we still entitled to
Are we still entitled to Unemployment Insurance if we decide to resign next week with a sponsor in the works?
The answer is.....
ex-NOVA teachers will.
http://www.nikkei.co.jp/news/
In response to the nonsense
In response to the nonsense just posted by "S," only a truly fucking stupid jagoff would think that a "buyout" of THIRTY FUCKING SCHOOLS is going to save a sinking ship with almost FIFTY BILLION YEN in debt.
Shall we count, together? You hoping to get your BT position back, you fucking dildo cocksucking backstabber yes-man faggot fuck?
NOVA IS STILL FINISHED. GET THAT THROUGH YOUR DUMB FUCKING MIDDLE-MANAGEMENT HEAD. IT's OOOOOOVA!!!!
LM
Show me the money!
This article says nada about collecting unpaid salaries for the thousands of teachers and staff.
At this time I am currently owed 286,536円 in September earned wages plus 8 paid holidays that I took in October before my resignation. If my guesstimate is correct that makes about 350,000円 (give or take) that I was depending on. Show me what they plan to do about that.
Dear Lynchmob
Quote "NOVA IS STILL FINISHED. GET THAT THROUGH YOUR DUMB FUCKING MIDDLE-MANAGEMENT HEAD."
LOL. How bizarre. You sounds curiously... desperate... for this to come true.
I've never worked for NOVA in my life. I have a steady job that pays well and on time. I just wish that all the thousands of people working at NOVA could enjoy the same security I enjoy.
The only reason you want NOVA to fail is because you've joined in with the pack of bloodthirsty vultures on this site who drool over the prospect of this totally unjustifiably-demonized company going to the wall. Either that, or you're too fucking lazy to get off your fat ass and find a job so you just want to sit back and wait for the Unemployment benefits to kick in.
What a winner..
What's a good acronym for....
the "G" in G.Communications? Any suggestions?
Babel Fish
Sponsor enterprise does not undertake the debt which prepayment well accompanies halfway cancellation. The employee after retiring NOVA once, assumed that principle and the sponsor re-employ in regard to the staff who is desired.
I know that the translation is shit, but I ran that Nikkei article through the babelfish translator and I would appear (once again on a shitty translation) that teachers who resigned WILL NOT GET PAID as our back wages would assume the principle of the NOVA students. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!? Please tell me if I'm reading this wrong, because there is no way in hell that that can be legal. How could they fuck those of us who moved on and got other jobs or went home?
DELAY/THROW YOU OFF TACTIC. Time heals and...
...everything passes. Let's forget about it. It was all a dream! "GIVE UP!" It's not worth the time and effort.
TRON, you need to calm the
TRON, you need to calm the fuck down before you have a panic attack. One, don't trust anything you read on silly translation websites. Two, this may be Japan, which is the closest thing to a caveman's society in the civilized, industrialized sector of the world, but even these ass-backwards fucks and their moronic excuse for a country/government/society/intellect can't possibly hope to deprive workers of what's owed to them.
It simply cannot happen. Legal highway robbery? Not unless you're Martha Stewart (or Billary Clinton).
Besides, you've been watching this NOVA fiasco for quite a while, right? You should very well know that no matter what the rumors, what the gossip and what the initial news sources say...this is Japan, where people can't even walk in straight fucking lines or catch the god damned elevator correctly, so we can assume that NOT ALL the news being dished out is accurate.
Come on, now...this country is like leaving a group of 5-year-old retarded children in charge of a soup kitchen for a week--lots of unwanted social rejects will starve, the retard kids will probably end up killing themselves out of stupidity, but when all is said and done, and all the dust has cleared, a more competent entity (America) will step in and sort out the bullshit these needle-dick jagoffs have caused. Again.
Again.
LM
Oh dear, it appears someone
Oh dear, it appears someone has forgotten to take their meds.
Lord Percy, it appears
Lord Percy, it appears someone has forgotten their own history.
I'M NOT THE ONE WHO WAS A BIG ENOUGH MORON JAGOFF BACKSTABBING DOUCHEBAG RAT to accept and carry out the duties of the position of TITLED ASSPACKER. Meds? It'd have taken MEDS to get any normal person with any such sufficient self-concept and level of self-esteem to take such a fucking crummy, worthless offer...but hey, there you were!
You enjoying unemployment, Percy? You hittin' up the soup kitchens yet, or are you still surviving by scrounging money off your non-NOVA employed "friends" (and we all know how many "friends" the titled instructors tend to have).
You ever make it down this way and I'll buy you a couple of 100-yen burgers from McDs. I hate seeing folks starve, regardless of their previous infractions against common decency and ethics.
Have a great week.
LM
Wow! the other 11 or so sponsors must have really suggested some crazy ideas in order not to have been accepted. Maybe the directors didn't like the idea of the remaining 300000+ students being taught from just one or two branches.
Look (in all seriousness) the way I read it is that this could be the first of several sponsors to come forward. Wait for the lawyers to say something about it all.
There has to be more coming surely..I mean we are talking about a squillion yen in debt here..WTF??
Aw poor lm, what`s wrong, finally get kicked off GP enough times that you got the message that no-one wants you or your tantrums.
So, how is the view from your mothers basement?
Unjustifiably-demonised company? Huh? How can anyone even begin to assert a claim like that in light of a man (Saruhashi, who was for all intents and purposes the heart and the mind of the company) screwed absolutely everyone over while the other dirtors just sat there and watched and are only just now making a last ditch effort to save themselves from criminal charges. With your kind of logic I bet you needed help with the captcha question.
I have a new job. I don't want unemployment insurance! I just want the 2 months of salary that I earned! If you think that is being greedy or selfish you are a self righteous prick who would probaby end up doing the same thing were you in our shoes.
The second I get paid I will write this pathetic company out of my life and will no longer concern myself with this completely justified Nova bashing. So e question has to be asked: what the hell are you doing wasting your time pouring through these threads if they don't concern you? What a winner...
Had a friend work for EC/G-Communication in Sapporo last year. He is Kiwi but was asked to teach in a "North American accent" on his first day. Told his head teacher to go and get fu*@ed and walked before the first class!
All you Canada-jins will be fine! They love you guys!
Americans? depends what kind of head you've got..
Aussies, Brits, Kiwis your new jobs await at Hello Kitty Work..
Suckers will be Suckers! Rome was not created in a day!
What a great way to find(?) and corner/get a market full of sucker consumers. Corporations pay big money to buy that kind of information! "That's NOVA's biggest asset!" Imagine!.....They bought NOVA, right? YOU CAN SELL THEM ANYTHING!!! They'll buy anything!!!!!! Lot's more money to be milked out of those suckers trying to justify their....Bargain Hunter/Smart Shopper Mentality. What a Gold Mine.
sorry you are reading correctly
What was discussed in the meetings on Monday was how many schools the sponsor would take and how many instructors. It was also decided that in schools that wouldnt be reopened the teachers would be fired (probably on Thursday) and would not receive backpay as it was NOVAs problem. The teachers who would be rehired would receive the base rate of backpay (not including travel, shift or attendance). Teachers who have resigned or are fired will be able to go on unemployment (assuming they have been in Japan long enough) unless they already have a new job lined up. For those teachers, they will have to go through lengthy bullshit to try and get a percentage of the money owed to them from the government.
In that case
I looks like it's back to the Labor Bureau for me to find out what I need to do to stay in contact after I return home in December. I'm going to have a hard time keeping my temper in check as I get pushed around and crammed onto packed commuter trains tomorrow with all of this floating around in my skull.
Hardly a mammoth

I doubt this school/company has the money to pay any debt at all.
Until there's money in the bank...
It was suggested to me at the AAM and J-manager meeting last Thursday that the trustees may agree to sell off the company in regions, like when JR was privatized into East and West divisions. This could be the start of something like that. It will be interesting to see if there are more announcements like this one over the course of the next week or so. I've started a new job but haven't resigned from Nova yet, as I think it's more likely that I'll recover my back salary sooner if I'm still technically an employee. No matter what happens, I'm holding in my enthusiasm until there's money in the bank, and I'm not working another hour for Nova ever. Good luck to all.
Christmas is coming and it's nice back home!
The big Christmas Tree, presents underneath it. Family, friendly faces, friends. Eggnogs, roast chicken/turkey w/stuffing, leg of lamb, Beers, CHEERS, champagne and wine. I have 19 private students a week, I guess I might have some more free time to say, double or triple that now.
It is just me, or are there absolutely no good eikaiwas out there? Hell even some of the ALT positions are paying peanuts.
FLT is the only way to go, or if you're luck, have support and open shop.
Good luck to those 1500+/- teachers with this possibly even more hellish than NOVA co. Just remember, NOVA did treat many of the working holiday people well and many got just what they wanted out of their stay here. The trouble was for the people who actually cared about their work and life in Japan.

Tron, if you go to the linked page, it does address that:
「これまでの未払い賃金については、保全管理人が国に対して立て替え払いの手続きに入り、早期に支払う予定だ。」
It says that the receivers will start the procedure of getting the money for unpaid wages from the government and plan to pay the wages as soon as possible. G-Communications refused to take on the burden of unpaid wages, because basically it's not their problem. Students also got turned back on getting refunds, but at least they get that 75% discount. The receivers were looking for the best coverage for teachers and students, not coverage for ALL teachers, that wasn't realistic. 2000 teachers was the best offer on the table, the receivers have done their job. And as for those people suggesting there may be more sponsors, no, this is it. One sponsor, a third of Nova's branches taken over, and the rest liquidated, with priority being given to creditors.

unemployment insurance
There's been a heap of rumours about what you can and what you can't do in relation to quiting/ getting what you are owed/ and claiming unemployment insurance. I have called numerous labour offices/hello work branches and they have contradicted themselves and generally given inconsistent answers. I bit the bullet and quit Nova last week and got a rishokuhyo from the company early this week. I enrolled with Hello work and seem set to be paid early december. Remember if you quit, you have to say why you quit (try to be diplomatic about it) also confirm and reconfirm they have your current mailing address. They managed to balls mine up despite having been given the address several times.
Good luck everyone with finding jobs and with getting on with your lives and hopefully the people who keep corrupting these internet pages die from ass cancer.
unpaid salaries
Apparently it doesn't matter if you quit now or later. By law the company has to pay this money to you within 2 years (although they won't pay more than 80%of the money owed to you). If they manage to not pay you withing the 2 year period they are no longer obligated to pay you according to Japanese law.
Maybe they can get away with that kind of shit in Hokkaido!
Wonder how long they will last in Honshu? But then, NOVA students and teachers are the best suckers on this earth.
In Japan they have a saying: "Negi wo shota kamo." ねぎをしょった鴨。
The duck packing its own seasoning herbs (leeks) for the nabe (pot roast) party!

Then there is the additional final verse that has been added for NOVA teachers by another anonymous writer. Trying to teach good manners obviously.
Thank you said the master, (for the Billions)
Thank you said the dame (for the Billion)
And thank you said the little boy (for the Millions)

I'm an Australian AT with the company and have been for many years. I'm proud of who I am, where I come from and the job that I've done. Give this restructuring bid a chance! All you young, weak, lazy imature employees have done nothing but bring this company down. It's time to take responsibility and turn these lemons into lemonade. Where is your sense of pride! Where is your work ethic? What's wrong with you people, ignoring authority figures at work and behaving like a bunch of animals?

UI etc.
Okay, let me just try to clear a few things up for y'all! Talked to Hello Work and then went down to the branch office. The back wages....eventually we will get 80% but Hello Work doesn't deal with that at all. The trustees do.
Big news for those looking at unemployment insurance....ALL NOVA INSTRUCTORS are now eligible. It DOES NOT matter if you were paid on time in September or not. Due to the company's situation, ALL instructors can apply now. Also, it seems to not really matter what the seperation papers say, though no doubt they will refer to the current situation being the reason, especially if you request that they do so. There is NO three month wait. My advice, stop reading the internet for a few minutes and drag yourself to your local Hello Work to get the straight, honest answers.
Not if they...
The debt's not all that big if the deal excludes paying back student refunds - which is what I thought they said. Could be wrong.

WTF! This is Nova's saviour? Here we are "on stand by at home" as requested waiting for some big announcement of some kind of major player in the Japanese business world coming in to lend a hand.
Must have burnt the midnight oil securing this deal.
Will be the talk of Wall Street today.
Who were the other possible sponsors? Ball bearing company in Fukushima? Tanabe Auto Repair Shop in Wakayama?

MM Centre/Ginganet Question
This (excerpt) appeared in the Yomiuri last week following Sahashi's fire sale of Ginganet stock....
________________________________________________________________________
All the shares were purchased by a Tokyo-based IP phone firm and the firm's 60-year-old president, The Yomiuri Shimbun learned Wednesday.
According to the president, Sahashi offered to sell the shares of NTB and Ginganet in September.
The president bought half the shares for himself and half for his firm before Nova filed for protection under the rehabilitation law. The president did not reveal how much he paid for the shares.
"People told me not to buy the shares because Ginganet's liabilities exceed its assets," the president said. "But the employees of the Ginganet also asked me to save their company, so I accepted the offer not considering gains or losses. I didn't expect Nova would file for protection."
He added, however, that he hopes to cooperate with Nova.

Working for G-com
Hi folks...just thouht Id chip in my own unasked for two cents.
I work for G-com in Hokkaido, they bought out my company about eight months ago. theres an existing horror story about my company on this site that, while accurate, isnt really fair to judge G-comm by as it was under different management then. However Im afraid I cant report much in the way of good news about the G. dince buying my company they have - reduced salaries, halved paid holidays, removed all possible chances for bonus, made public holidays work days. oh dear. their policy is also to treat foreign staff as japanese staff which is why a few months ago we found ourselves on saturday night, after a full days work, laying carpet.
The company is growing far too quickly. the current head of sapporo was a cram school teacher two years ago. yikes.
so for all you guys waiting for pay back etc, id excpect nothing. they will buy the schools, gut them and remake them.
Sounds a bit like Nova..........expanding quickly....too quickly....ug.
Thankyou Tigerbolt
Thanks for the info. There is nothing to look forward to for current Nova people.
Go home
Get new job
Work for company that will be worse than Nova.
Live off of unemployment and then go home.
Live off of unemployment, while looking for a new job.
Not many options really...
Can we get our RishokuHyou's now?
Thanks Tigerbolt no.2
I had heard much the same too. EC only like "good looking teachers..no asians, vets, fatsos, fuglies etc..
Also pretty much sweatshop eikaiwa for less money worse conditions that Nova. Have to "chat" with students in between lessons, smile ALL the time etc..English speaking Gaijin labrats.
Also heard managers and staff love to just sit in on lessons unexpectedly stare at teachers and evaluate their teaching style.
One branch manager In Nagoya was caught stalking a teacher last April. Claimed she was just in the teachers neighborhood by chance. Funny she was taking a walk in the corridoor outside this guys apartment. Later heard that she has a habit of checking out where new teachers live etc.
Will tell you guys more later.
For anyone who might be
For anyone who might be interested, this is from the Nova Union, suggesting that teachers and students meet outside their respective branches to organise private lessons amongst themselves. Might be worth a shot to make some extra cash.

EC Eikaiwa
Yo!
I was at Nova here in Nagoya but heard something about students at EC Nagoya given teacher checklists or some shit asking them to evaluate lessons/was teacher sincere/smiling and other stuff.
If you don't have to be in Japan now don't be here! Go home get some rest, reevaluate what you wanna do, get some self respect back.
To all who work at G.Comm...
Any specifics on salary, holidays, split weekends etc etc..?
Give us an idea on if we should be even bothered giving them a shot.
Thanks.

What is honestly considered good looking in Japan?
I have been told several times that I am good looking. I would consider myself average in my home country I would be considered average. First of all I am white, blonde hair, half brown half green eyes, and I half an ok complexion. I have a big nose but I guess Japanese people like big noses or I mean tall noses. Well I just kind of want to know so maybe I can get a job with G-Com.
What is honestly considered good looking in Japan?
Oh yeah I am not a fatty I am pretty skinny in my home country but considered average body size here.

Unlikely they will have 100 spaces and 100 talking heads unless they move quickly to shore up rents.
Why does everyone make such
Why does everyone make such a big deal about the debt? If they can make a profit, they'll pay it back, large companies often get incredible debts but the infrastructure makes up for it. Whatever you say, with all those schools and students, Nova has that in abundance. Think Softbank buying up J-phone, just doing a lot more to change the image around.
Anyway this is good news for teachers committed to staying in Japan who couldn't find any other jobs. It may be rough, but it is a way to make life possible for them.
hmm
Well, NOVA teachers had a job that was supposed to have security too, that's what they signed up for. There's no such thing as a "secure" job. Mr. S, all companies have the possibility of mis-management, of bankruptcy, of scandals, of dwindling profits, of layoffs, etc. Not that I wish your company to leave you out in the cold because of the poor decisions it's made, or because of one of the reasons that I just mentioned, but maybe, just maybe, if that were to happen, you might get off your high horse.
