Sahashi is gone. According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, at an emergency board meeting held by Mr. Watanabe, Ms. Yoshisado, and Anders Lundqvist last night in Tokyo, the board of directors staged a coup d'etat and fired Sahashi citing non-confidence in his ability to lead the company.
More from the article: Sahashi was not at the meeting (he's still hiding). Nova has debts in excess of 50 billion yen. The board of directors will try to reorganize Nova under the Corporate Rehabilitation Law.
Trying to rebuild under the Corporate Rehabilitation Law means that Nova is essentially bankrupt. The fat lady has sung.

"Serious..."
Hey, "Seriously..."! Sounds to me, Sir, like you are the idiot. Don't you like to have a bit of a laugh. "Sahashi in Hiding" make me chuckle. Bet you are about as fun to have around as a nasty case of the clap. Sounds to me like you need to go out and get good and wasted, but then I bet you don't touch anything stronger than tea. Jerkoff!
Monkey Bridge & Anders..a love made in heaven!
The media says Saruhashi fired from the board by Anders L!
Bullshit! Their friendship runs too deep to warrant that!
More like AL giving his pal an out.
always interesting to read your experience blueterrace..do tell more.

I quit working for NOVA at the beginning of the month after securing other employment (couldn't see any sense in working two months for free) . As it turns out, NOVA's decision to close up shop today was pretty lucky timing for me as Friday is my regular day off. A friend and I went down to the old branch and handed out business cards offering private lessons to any students who rolled up. I would advise people with nothing but free time to go and do the same. If you have no money now, you will have no money tomorrow unless someone pays you for something. The time has come to steal students. I'll be going back down bright and early tomorrow morning to see who shows up for their Saturday lessons.

This is just my personal opinion but I think it's rather insensitive to try and get alot of these nova students to sign up for private lessons. They are on the brink of losing alot of money if nova does end up bankrupt and here people are trying to get more money out of them. This doesnt just relate to the previous persons post but to alot of the people who I have met who seem to have similar ideas. Fair play if the students approach you for the lessons or if you approach them in a less than demanding way but to those who think they can just rock on up to branches and expect students to pay you for lessons is just cruel.
OK guys, just got the confirmation from the docks in Nampo North Korea. Sahashi has just cleared customs and has been handed his new North Korean Passport. His new name is Kim Say Kim and he will spend the night in the Nampo Friendship Hotel. Tomorrow he goes to P'yŏngyang for a meeting with the Finance Minister and all the bank transfer stuff. More as it comes in.
Debts more than what the company is worth.
All schools shutdown.
Still Wants to reopen school.
Looking for sponsors.

NOVA
TODAY has been a crazy day. I have called foreign personnel a few times to get updated info and inquire on what NOVA's situation means for those of us who have not resigned (but were going to)yet officially with the company.
I have to say that all the people there were very helpful. It must be tough to have been there today.
Anyways THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO ARE/WERE STILL WORKING AT F.P. TODAY!!
Good Luck to all.
If you bothered to read the papers Freddy you would see that Japan has an embargo on North Korea. Unless the ship went to China or Cambodia first, but all that in under 48 hours? C'mon Freddy he isn't that fast. Maybe he has monkey magic and whistled up a flying cloud. More like the cloud you are on Freddy-no-food.
Thanks Mr Cheers. That was
Thanks Mr Cheers. That was very nice of you. Yeah, everyone there is in the same boat as all those in branches. We aren't any more than the instructors in the branches.
fast freddy...
...I know you are trying to be humorous, but you aren't and it's getting pretty tedious.
Sahashi in N. Korea
Ah Art, Sahashi has powerful friends and a fast boat. There was confirmation that Sahashi left via a port in Tottori. He was on one of those special North Korean spy boats delivering bicycles to the leadership. His reach is global. And by the way his name is Kim Say Kim. Sahashi formerly Saruhashi goes by many names. His double has yet to make an apperance.
You seem to be a compassionate person, but perhaps your compassions are misaligned. Yes, the students do stand to lose money if the company ceases to exist. However, they do not stand the chance of going hungry in a foreign land as a result. Very many of us are facing this very real possibility. So yes, I did go to the branch and present cards to students letting them know that if NOVA closes permanently that they can consider contacting me about private lessons and that my contact information was on the card. No money was discussed, no pressure was put on them. I am not a high pressure salesman (i.e. NOVA Staff). I am merely a teacher trying to do the only thing I can think of to put in my belly.
*edit
Sorry, that should have read "put FOOD in my belly".
skullduggery???
I can't help but feel that this is all some big scam engineered by Sahashi so he and his cronies can take what is left. Just a gut-feeling.
Wait another month or so until we find someone to bail us out? I wonder if we actually will get paid for that month of waiting. I doubt there will be very few of us around by then. Maybe that's their plan....
Skeptic
Excuse me for being skeptical but i don't think the twists and turns of this story are done quite yet.
The dismissal of Saruhashi by the board in no way vindicates their actions (or inactions) of the past few years! If they genuinely decided to tell Saruhashi to f*ck off they still have a lot of blood on their hands too and this last minute gesture is (as my ex girlfriend repeated to me on numerous occasions) too little too late.
Having said that, I am 100% certain the resignations are a pitiful way of trying to distance themselves from responsibility and criminal culpability and wouldn't even be surprised if the expulsion of the fearless leader was a way to help him jump ship too.
Nova's debt is substantial and as pointed out by others, greater than its value. I have read a lot of bullsh*t about Japanese people not knowing about these problems. True, it hasn't received as much attention from the media as many of us would have liked (I for one won't be happy until the cellphone-camera recorded hanging of Saruhashi is posted on the internet) but the fact is many Japanese people are aware and Nova have shot themselves in the foot as far as recruiting is concerned. There is no way Nova (if they choose to continue trading) can even begin to contemplate dismissing 'disloyal' staff. No money, no work is reasonable NOT disloyal! Nova was disloyal to everyone it did business with internally and externally, not the other way around.
Even if Saruhashi is brought to account (which is looking likely) and he faces criminal charges (which is looking more likey) make no mistake, at the end of the day he will land on his feet! He will end up better off than any employee. Maybe he will have to spend some time in a minimum security prison but after a couple of years he will still have a small (read 'pretty big') fortune waiting for him.
I hope everyone sees their money soon (especially me) but I won't hold my breath, both because it won't happen in the near future and because it is difficult to hold while laughing at the chumps who are still willing to work!
Good luck soliciting students, good luck getting your UI, and good luck waiting for a new buyer now that Saruhashi is gone because logically it's not going to happen and you are sure going to need some luck instead!!!
9:00 NHK News
Just a few tidbits:
-"Chris", a NOVA teacher who's been here since February "had no idea" what was happening when he went to work today and found the closed notice on the door.
-According to the anchor, students are suffering the most.
-Out of a 60 minute broadcast, NOVA was given 7 minutes of coverage.
I can't help but feel this situation is sanitized for public consumption.
9:00 NHK News.
Yeah, I was suprised by that comment about the students suffering most and that most people are surprised that Nova has closed their doors since the teachers haven't been paid. Are people supposed to work for no money and not pay rent and eat and get sick or something. I can't understand. I have to think about this. The whole business plan is strange. Selling dreams of something for discount tickets if you pay a lot up front. Did the services provided satisfy the customers ? If not I don't think there is much hope for Nova even if there is a sponsor. Basically a bad business plan or model. Bad product or service. Burger King's Double Cheese Whooper sounds like a good product. Or a Megamac.Fast food is the way to go. Can buy 2 yeas worth of double cheese whoopers in advance ? Sorry I'm a rambling now...
Nova is not the worst of language schools, either.
Sahashi is from Kishiwada ! What is Kishiwada famous for besides danjiri ? Starts with Y...
...As pissed off as you NOVA
...As pissed off as you NOVA teachers are...
Pissed off? Why should a NOVA teacher be pissed off? Fuck buddy, take your head out of the glue bag! And it IS over. There will be no restructuring. Just more lies to bait people along. What do you mean by "you Nova teachers"? If your not a Nova teacher fuck-off and mind your own business. If you are not part of the solution, your part of the problem.
Call me when you: get your money, the students get a refund, Nova re-opens or when hell freezes over.
I was wondering: how many people are going into work tomorrow?
This bankruptcy news is great! Now I can receive all of the UI entitled to me because, UNLIKE OTHERS, I worked for "FREE" for the past 2 weeks! I LOVE MY STUDENTS, I LOVE MY COMPANY, THIS IS THE BESTEST JOB EVER!
I RULE!
ps...we are going to get paid now, aren't we?
Lauren,
"ps...we are going to get paid now, aren't we?"
No.
Are you drunk?
I'm not a NOVA teacher, I'm not 'part of the problem' (how could I be since I have nothing to do with NOVA? It's not my fault NOVA screwed its students and staff) and I don't even claim to be part of the solution. But you dipshits keep posting erroneous information about what's going on and I'm sure that's doing real harm to some NOVA teachers who are really hoping for some solution. Most of you who post here seem to actually be happy about NOVA going under (if it does go under; it has NOT yet) even though you're the ones getting screwed.
Bottom line: Sahashi is gone and current management is at least attempting to restructure. That's far more than the management of NCB or Bilingual ever tried to do. They just shut their doors one morning and said fuck-all to everybody.
point of clarifcation
not ALL NOVA branches are closed. We are open in Taipei, Taiwan (we just get paid a lot less because of that crappy exchange rate business). To get a glimpse of a living relic, feel free to drop on by...hell take a free Japanese demo lesson while you are at it!....and good luck to those who are floating around in Japan- we might be joining you soon :)
Back to work tomorrow gang!
So with today's events all out of the way it's back to the branches tomorrow I say..how about it all?
