Stories from inside the classroom

Discrimination inside and outside of the workplace

Four years back I was looking for a new apartment in Osaka and visited my local agency. The agent asked me where I wanted to live and how much I wanted to spend and then pulled out a catalogue of pictures and floor plans. I picked half a dozen locations that looked reasonable and showed this chap my selection. The next thing the agent did gave me a bit of a wake up call. He called the landlord for every location I'd selected and began to ask if they accepted foreigners. My pick of half a dozen suddenly became one and the agent went into a speech about why they don't accept foreigners.

Getting F*cked out of a student....

Putting Your Stick in My Honey Pot

You would think that friends would stand next to you, help you and support you in creating a new school. They would be there to help out with lessons and handing out flyers...but what the hell do you do when they start giving students lessons of a different sort...I don't wanna come off sounding like a NOVA manager or anything like that..but what would you do!?

Be Positive! My Rant!

I find that most posts here on Let's Japan are very negative. I am finding that I have been driven to being negative as well. I guess one of the reasons I come to this site is to let off a bit of steam and give advice when I can. It only takes one flame to get us firing back with comments. I admit that I am most often quick to flame when I see a flame is due. Here is my positive post for today. As egotistical as it is. Flame if you have to!

Apologies for the repetitive use of 'I'.

Reflections of an outgoing GEOS Teacher

Tokyo City, my school. A place where the sun never shines, the birds never sing, yet there's always muzak in the air. The home of my workplace for the past fourteen months, and the source of many of my trials and triumphs in Japan. As an outgoing teacher who has been working for GEOS for about a year and a half, I'd like to share some of my thoughts about working for this company. Would I recommend it to someone fresh out of university like myself? And if I fell back in time, would I do it all again, having experienced the highs and lows and knowing what I do now?

MOTHERFUCKER!

This story is aimed at all of those motherfuckers who for some reason unbeknownst to mankind want to come to the land of the spewing sewers. Just in case some of you are slightly unsure as to what land I am in fact referring to, it's Japan.

"What the fuck is Skweekah up to?" you may ask yourself. Well, let's just say that I have a little story to divulge on the faithful audience of the LetsJapan Web site, the online presence that won some fucking award. "What award?" you may ask. Let's just say that you're asking the wrong piece of shit.

Almost worth KILLING my boss!!!

Well, if anyone has a contract horror story, tell me if mine doesn't stand next to the worst of the worst. I swear, I have never had any feelings of wanting to cause bodily injury to anyone, but after being put through the shit that my boss put me through, I was ready to put a weapon of mass destruction up this guys @ hole and have a whole slew of weapon inspectors follow. Even to this day, I think I would gladly give up a months salary for one shot at him "wanna know why"read on.

Life on the dark side

I used to work for an Eikaiwa in Sendai city. It is a medium sized school and Barten makes reference to it in his previous post. If any one cares to know its name I will gladly share it. This school on all appearances seems friendly and proffessional but I want to share with you its dark secrets...

Your Worst Personal Eikaiwa Experiences

What bad experiences have you had working in eikaiwa?

Do I have the corporate vision, FatBoy?

I remember that before coming to Japan I researched the eikaiwa thing in depth. I visited all of the discussion boards and Web sites and became a pro-active member in the mass of verbal diarrhoea that is CyberSpace. And what I saw was a bunch of sissy-boy fuckers who couldn't cut it on their own and needed their mothers to administer a bit of hand action occasionally for them to get through life. I thought that the horror stories and propaganda were a big joke. How pathetic can grown people be?
