The Sankei Shimbun is reporting (under the Scandals section, quite correctly) that Anders Lundquist, who has been with Nova since it was founded by Sahashi, has submitted his resignation.

That's one down. Now if only Sahashi would do the right thing instead of firing off faxes from his hideout.

The rest of the article quotes a banker who says that Nova's business plan is not so bad, and that there is possiblity of a takeover ("hikiukesaki" not in my dictionary, but pretty sure that's what it means), if Sahashi steps aside. The article concludes that the pressure will increase on Sahashi to do resign in order to save the company.

For those of us (me) who dont know, what was this guys position at the company?

Well, to all those who have been railing against teachers not reporting for work, how about this little monkey wrench in the works. If the 2nd man himself cant be bothered, and we all know his pay check is like a gazillion times bigger than ours and he has more to lose, what about life for the rest of us mere plebs? The end is nigh, ne?

He manner is so creepy. He really made my flesh crawl. He has this evil smile, like he's thinking about how much he hates you, and he's just waiting for the opportunity to do something really nasty to you. In meetings, he revelled in making everyone feel inferior. He would lean back in his chair with that horrible smile on his face, just waiting to stick the knife in. The atmosphere was SO tense, it felt like there was no air in the room, and we'd never be happy again until we got out of that room. He was more like a Dementor than a Naasguul! (Can you tell I didn't care for him much?)

SOOOO.....RIGHT!! Truly, a DEMENTOR. Sucked the life & happiness out of everything anywhere nearby. Arctic cold surrounded any area he occupied. Impossible to describe the experience of meeting him unless you've had it. Not recommended for anyone not deserving a stint in hell.

I also don't know what his OFFICIAL position was. Vice President? Co-owner? Did he have a title?

Don't know his official posistion but he was the foreign equivalent of saruhashi.

my one and only memory of this ugly midget (other than the times i saw his chicken scratch signature on my pathetic contract renewal)

was just after the new diplomat books came out, he was at my school to check out how they were being handled by the teachers...the bell rang, we all file out of the teachers room, and as usual, i am the last one to leave. As I pass, he's just standing there in the doorway..staring off into the empty room like a demented robo-ghoul, with my HT (what BTs were before) and AM quivering behind him, praying i wouldnt say something stupid or "funny" as i am prone to do.

I knew this arrival and inspection meant a lot to my HT, so i was very professional..I said "Hello".

he ignored me, and kept on staring into the vacant room like the creep he is... It pisses me right royally off when i say "hello" to someone and they ignore me, like i was a dead fish in a market somewhere, so I was about to repeat myself...loudly...but the look of abject terror in my HTs face was enough for me to let it slide with a smirk of disapproval.

Its funny why I remember that.

Best of luck to everyone here, especially those that are in what seems like the worst situation...just remember the good times of your life, and remember that they will be back again, and you WILL laugh and be happy again soon...this is simply not the worst thing in the world that has happened..stay positive, and kind, and patient as best you can. Anders is/was on the Board of Directors (one of four). The top gaijin in the place (or bottom, depending on your point of view). He is responsible for so much of the crap that is Nova that I only hope his resignation won't stop him being put in prison for life.

Yeah that's the bat/guy? I saw ranting and raving in Swedish around a UFJ ATM on Midosuji Parade in Shinsaibashi Osaka yesterday.

Anyway he dropped his ATM receipt so I picked it up and asked him if he wanted it back. Now my Swedish ain't great but I thought he said words to the effect that meant monkeys on bridges in the Virgin islands are not to be trusted!

Whatever the hell that is supposed to mean I have no idea.

This is the guy i saw at Tennoji Honko in Osaka a few months ago. He woz hangin round the teachers room and sales area.
I thought he was a BT or AAM or something. I thought maybe I should start up a conversation with him (see F29) so I asked him if he was new around here to which he abruptly repiled "I'm sorry, I don't speak Japanese". I woz speaking english. Total dick.

He also stole our staff Daily Yomiuri for that day.

Thanks Canada Dave. A big "ditto" from me. I have been reading heaps on the forums etc and I haven't really said much about anything. On this subject though I know exactly how you feel. I used to work at Umeda Honko a few years back and old creepy Anders would come by from time to time. For what reason I dunno just he would hang around like a bad smell in the Teachers room and say nothing except maybe a few words to the brown nose AT. Next day the AT would say stuff like "Mr Lundqvist" noticed that the teachers were not moving to their classes when the bell sounded or they looked unprofessional and other shit. We used to work our asses off in those days, 8 lessons + overtime, up to 20 in Voice etc.
Just wanted to say how I felt. Can see why the company is in so much trouble now. Seeya. Pommy John.

I had an interview many years ago for a position at Education Planning(?). It was a panel affair; Lunqvist, Frater and some other. The whole thing became a kind of hideous out of body experience for me. I knew from the word go I wasn't going to get it, which of course became quite a relief - as canada dave indicates Lundqvist made sure I was made to feel like dirt. The interviewing technique seemed to adhere to the good cop/bad cop routine, but the other two weren't enough to balance the equation. Anders struck me as a huge misanthropist, evidently not a very good one - I've yet to see a decent piece of poetry, novel or painting spring forth from that well of hatred.

Funny name "Lundqvist", does it mean "Land Quest" as in a viking desire to seek out new lands to plunder, rape and pillage? Or is it a throw back to an evolutionary era when the creatures of the swamps began their primal clambering out of the water?

Just saw Lunktwits photo. Previous posters werent joking, that guy is seriously rude: no wonder he kept such a low profile round the place! (If you haven't seen him its enough to say that he is so ugly that people are photo shopping him to make him look BETTER! LOL) Maybe he just ignored people coz he felt so damn awkward round regular humans, perhaps thats why he hid out at NOVA for 25 years.

I used to work at a big eikaiwa in Osaka back in the early to mid nineties and in those days some of the FP at the big schools had a bit of a social drink once a month or so, usually a Friday night. The only unwritten rule was we did not talk about work too much. We used to meet at Trader Vics in the New Otani (think its gone now). One night that Lindquest guy came down with a couple of other Nova gaijin bigwigs who seemed pretty cool and sociable. We all thought maybe Ludquest would tell us a few tales about how he and Sahashi started Nova and so on but all he did was sit there on some cocktail staring off into space not making conversation or eye contact with anyone in the group of 12 - 15 who were there. He barely introduced himself and no one had any idea when he drifted off and left that evening not even the Nova guys. God knows what this guy did all day for more than twenty years. I've heard some other stories about him but I have to get back to work now.

The Union and complaints (students/anonymous phone calls/etc.) were Sahashi' antennas. Ever had a teacher that claimed he was from a so and so school and so and so's friend, speaking in a British accent, coming to one of your "NOMIKAIZ" drinking parties and you never saw him again!? He was Sahashi's (eyes and ears) infomation gathering agent, a mole! I was screwed by one such occasion. Glad I lost my job back then!! Don't think it doesn't matter any more! Beware of what you say openly to people you've just met in these (big) schools/companies in Japan, Seen it happen many times! Anyone of you had the same experience?

Just caught up with all the news. I am back in Melbourne did a short stint with Berlitz years ago in Tokyo. It was ok got to see some of Japan, made some friends, went to Fuji Rock Festival. Some mates emailed me today about how things are so fucked up at NOVA. Maybe I am covering old ground but have all of you checked out that guy who worked at NOVA? Was he a teacher there? Does your company do background checks on people?

I am still at Nova but never saw Lundqvist around Kyoto where I am but his name is on our good for nothing contracts. Would like to hear more about him though. Suppoesed to have jumped ship.
Everything will be sweet, just have to get thru all this bullshit at the moment. Wish I was back in Oz today.

The latest is that he has quit the board of directors, may have had a spat with Sahashi over Sahashi's failure to disclose deals with the board regarding foreign investors but who knows. Someone told me he was backpacking through SE Asia in the 70's when he met up with Sahashi in Bangkok. Sahashi brought him back to Japan and after AL cleared the required 90 days quarantine period they started Nova. Aren't you glad they did!? I think AL is based in Osaka somewhere. His name is at the bottom of your contract. That's if you work for Nova. Stop posting those photos, I just had dinner.
