Well, NOVA was rotten top to bottom. Everyone seems to think she just happened to be in the wrong place and the wrong time. Think again! Reckless, plain and simple.

Very pleased to hear this. This douchebag is off the streets and maybe finally her family can get some closure. Great job by the citizen who recognized him.

yeah..the cops all looked like a buncha fucking idiots on this one though..especially at first..i am sure the Chiba cops are seething that it was Osaka PD that got him..

but the circumstances of his arrest are fishy as all fuck!

seems he goes to the Kobe terminal to get a ferry to Okinawa yeah?..the guy there says theres no ferry today..you gotta go to the Osaka terminal yeah?

the guy at the Kobe dock gets interviewed and he says.."He didnt look right..he had a hat, and only a small bag..so I was suspicious and informed the Osaka terminal to be on the look-out"...

First and foremostly, I feel for the Hawker family, but I also feel for the Ichihashi family, and even just a little for the monster himself (the poor, sick, mentally deranged, bastard).

It is an enormous relief he has finally been caught, and thank goodness the Hawkers can have some closure, but I can’t help thinking he is also relieved, and feel some kind of very distant compassion for him.

His parents’ words “You may think of him as a monster, but to us, it was not like that, he was a sweet boy” keep ringing through my head.

I wonder what went so wrong in his life, that he chose such a horrible path, which such tragic and hellish consequences.

He will probably hang you know, and I don’t think even the Hawkers would want that (I think the father is calling for life behind bars).

Anyway, an ugly chapter finally comes to an end.

The guy knew his game was up once they published that new photo of him. I don't actually think he cared that much if he was caught, he was tired of running and he didn't seem to put up any resistance to the cops.

Who knows what's possessed him and led him to do what he did. I suppose there's a point where, from being a "sweet boy", he's had other underlying problems that have come out. He's obviously a loner with no friends, no job or direction, and gradually his mind's gone off in more and more twisted directions. So I can see where you're coming from with having sympathy for him and his parents.

Having said that, I hope he does get sent down for a long time though, he NEEDS to be locked up, it was a violent and premeditated murder. You can't have a person like that roaming the streets.

Having personally witnessed execution on several occasions, I can say with certainty, there is not a single person I know, when it comes to it, who would actually perform the execution (you CJ, claiming that you would).

Screaming for blood is one thing, but actually spilling it, is another thing entirely.

Capital punishment is proven to provide no deterrent whatsoever – it serves no purpose, other than to perhaps give victims families, a fleeting sense of vengeance – in my opinion, it is a ghastly and primitive business, and puts deep fractures in the meaning of “civilized society”.

My feelings will always remain first and foremostly with the Hawkers, take note, and they have a very obvious and correct right to seek and be awarded justice, but your lynch mob words are as revolting and disgusting to me, as the crime itself was.

yes i am sure in your VAST adventures online Baron Munchausen you have seen lots of executions ...well..i HAVE been shot at friend..had blood on my face and hands..and yes I would gladly, and immediately push the button, pull the string, flip the switch, you name it..im there.

i really was shot at...when i was a bouncer in a club in Toronto..it was the worst thing that ever happened to me..cuz the guy next to me got it in the head.

I was also a NOVA teacher in Chiba Prefecture, and Lindsay's murder happened only a very short time after I arrived there. This tragedy sent a ripple effect of grief, shock, and sadness to all of us who taught there because some of us knew someone who had ties to her. And her presence was definitely felt by many throughout Chiba in positive ways.

I commend the ferry officials in Osaka whose keen eyes finally put an end to this ordeal. I also commend the Hawker family on their courage and unrelenting strength during these two and a half years in dealing with the Japanese authorities, and never giving up on them.

I sincerely hope that with the capture of Mr. Ichihashi comes a sense of justice and closure that Lindsay's parents and sisters had been desperately seeking for so long.

We only knew her for a very short time, but we will never forget her.

May you finally be able to rest in peace, Lindsay.
