Hosting a Slingbox in Japan

Unread post by T.D. » Thu Sep 15, 2011 11:41 pm

So, finding streaming TV for the J-wifey here in the USA is a pain. Nothing decent at all. So while doing some searching I found this interesting link about using a Slingbox:

http://blog.jdictionary.com/howto/tv/slingbox/

Question is, does anyone know how I could pull this off to get stations in the Nagoya area?

Anyone here ever use a Slingbox?

Download and unzip these files. All the channels, all the content from the last 3 days watchable on an hour by hour basis. Not broadcast quality but close enough and all for free. No slingbox required.

I tried this and they were all .jar files. Any particular player you recommend to watch these?

No idea - when I double click them they open a little window with times in it - when you click on the time you want it opens WMP and starts the show on my PC...

VLC player is what you need; plays just about anything.

VLC is awesome, but in this case it is Java runtimes that he needs.

There's another box below it with "2ch NHK" in it - double click on that, then in the box to the right of it a load of dates and times will appear. Double click on the date/time you want to watch and it'll buffer, then WMP will open and start playing.

Ralphie,

I don't know what the Hell is going on here. I've tried this on 2 different PC's and it doesn't work on either of them. WTF??? Can a few others try this out and let us know if it works for you????

Don't know what's going wrong for you - we use this every day on my HTPC running Windows XP with no problems at all...

I tried it on our HTPC as well. Running Win.7 on it but it shouldn't make a difference. I'm trying it sober, so can't blame it on alcohol either. Maybe just plain stupidity?

You've got Java Runtime installed? That and WMP are all you need. What happens when you double click click on "2ch NHK"? Do you get the list of times in the box next to that or not?
