HDMI or DVI-D for hooking up my monitor?

Unread post by MonkeyMagic » Mon Feb 07, 2011 12:27 pm

I just got a new monitor and upon opening the box I see it has come with a DVI-D cable. However, my computer and the monitor also have HDMI ports. I know that HDMI also carries the sound, but as I'll be using external speakers and not the monitor's ones, should I get the HDMI cable or stick with the DVI-D which it came with? Does anyone know if there is much of a difference in visual quality? :?

In all likelihood your pc won't be outputting sound via hdmi only video, and both HDMI and DVI are digital and output the same quality, so I'd say save your money and go with DVI cause you have the cable.
