Yep as I said pretty happy with them.

We get internet, web space, 5 POP email accounts, TV Channels including BBC and English language movies and a phone line. Costs about 10,000 a month including all local and national calls. Installation was pretty cheap and friendly as well, even though we moved house after a few months.

Nice one! Is that a fibre optic cable? We were told they were really fast but they didn't have the TV channels in our area so we compromised on conventional cable.

Actually I am not entirely sure how much benefit there really is over about 4 meg. The fastest speed I have seen while actually downloading something is about 800kbs. Also sites can still be really slow even though from me to Yokohama is lightning because of congestion further up the line. A bit like being in a Skyline stuck in the same traffic jam as everyone else.

There is no way I could get this speed with unlimited downloads for 4000 a months in Aus! Japan's internet rocks.

No, but like I said I am not sure how much difference it really makes to user experience which to me seems largely dictated by what is happening further down the line.

Could well be wrong though - Anyone more clued up than me?

When it comes to "further down the line" unless it's the speed tester itself that's being strained, then you should be able to max out your bandwidth. The trunk lines can handle more than they need to. With my connection I can download at a total of around 3 or 4MB/sec, not from one source, usually multiple files at 1MB/s each or so.

The best I have seen is probably about 2MB/s again from from 3 or 4 sources. Depends on how fast the sources are though of course. Usually I am struggling to get more than 100 Kb/s per individual download.

You are right of course, the higher capacity means you can download many more things the same time. Whether I would ever find time to actually consume all that content is another question.

Net server speed has replaced the penis measuring contest. Either way I still need a big car with a bigger engine.

This is still one of my all time favorites-> http://www.bspeedtest.jp/

They've gotten a little porny with their banner ads, but the speed test rocks. Disable cookies if you would like to do multiple tests in a short amount of time.

Here's the wifi I use at one of the schools I work in. As far as I know thanks to a neighbour.

V Odd. Much faster upload than download?

Antone know the ISP? Internet Initiative?

I moved into a Leo Palace which is supposed to have internet, but there is no RJ45 terminal, and no modem in site, so I have no idea what is going on. I was going to go down there and enquire, but then I realized I could leech off my neighbour, so I am just doing that. This is my new super connection:

Yeah, I've traded down, but hey it's good enough. (Hurry up stupid new Heroes torrent...)

Too bad the free internet ride is ending for my in two days when I go back home.

So I guess the answer to that question is still you

Mwuhahaha...I have all of you beat. Oh wait, that's right, lower numbers are slower. And I'm not mooching off of anyone.

That's what's great about getting involved with a foreigner. You can't take it personally. What's really terrific is that when we act in ways which might objectively...seem assholish, or incredibly annoying, they don't get upset at all.
