Wearing a Kimono equals racism

Unread post by senseiman » Thu Jul 09, 2015 5:10 pm

Gotta do something to stimulate conversation on this forum and lately it seems race-relations has been the subject that has elicited the most interesting responses so.....

http://www.japantoday.com/category/nati ... m-protests

Stupidest protest ever? I took a look at their Facebook page and yeah, these people are fucking insane.

Great comment from under the article:
-there were about 3 protesters total holding hand made signs in he gallery. Yes, three. At first the museum ignored them (on some days it was just one or two). Then they set up a Facebook page. The online protest was much larger (slack-tivism at its best).

"slack-tivism" indeed! :rotfl:

You're doing well in life when this is all you have to protest.

Nice work, you fucking candyasses.

Instead of the museum kow-towing to these pricks, why don't they just send security to tell them to fuck off?

The protesters post to their twitter page or whatever that they were unfairly kicked out, the rest of the world says 'Yeah? So fucking what?' and the story ends.
Do NOT arrest this man.

Doesn't work that way with PC Victim Culture. You can't just shrug off protests (no matter how ridiculous) and instead have to prove you are not racist/sexist/offensive and often have to placate/bribe the "victim".

No one roots for Goliath. Little David gets all the sympathy.

If that gives you a chubby, you are a white supremacist.

See, I think some of the arguments they make about the presentation of Japonisme in the language of the time of the movement are valid - also, as with many accusations of racism it's hard to comment credibly unless you're part of the demographic affected as you can't claim to have full understanding of the prejudice they've received, but the "yellowface" comments and protesting at the gallery are fucking ridiculous and won't achieve anything but pissing people off and turning them against their cause.

Agreed. Best, most practical solution. Nobody at the museum thought of this?
