This forum is absolutely unreadable. Has it been hacked or was it a buggy software update?? Oh and to stay on topic with the thread Fuck Donald Trump.
It's amazing that he is even getting backlash from Fox news for blocking CNN and BBC. . Good!

Like banning-- banning!-- large, mainstream media outlets from, umm... PRESS CONFERENCES, you have in Trump a guy doing things a U.S. president never has done before.

Lest you think that's a good, or admirable thing, it's not. It's frightening and un-American. Banning reporters from fucking press conferences? WTF?!

Accusing the FBI of "not doing their job" because they "can't find and stop the leakers?" Lock this sum bitch up before we all have to take immersion Russian lessons to get by in our new life.

The Gestapo is up and running:

Border Agents Ask Muhammad Ali's Son: 'Are You Muslim?'
Muhammad Ali's son, who bears the boxing great's name, was detained by immigration officials at a Florida airport and questioned about his ancestry and religion in what amounted to unconstitutional profiling, a family friend said Saturday.

Returning from a Black History Month event in Jamaica, Muhammad Ali Jr. and his mother, Khalilah Camacho Ali, were pulled aside and separated from each other on Feb. 7 at the immigration checkpoint at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, said Chris Mancini, a family friend and attorney.

Camacho Ali was released a short time later after showing a photo of herself with her ex-husband, the former heavyweight boxing champion, Mancini said. But Ali Jr. was not carrying a photo of his world-famous father — a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Mem Fox, Australian author, gets apology after being wrongfully detained at LA airport
Australian author Mem Fox has received a written apology from the United States after what she said was a traumatic detention by immigration officials at Los Angeles Airport.

Fox, who was questioned by Customs and Border Protection officers for two hours earlier this month as she was on her way to Milwaukee to address a conference, said she collapsed and sobbed at her hotel after she was released.
Federal agents ask passengers of domestic flight to show ID in search for undocumented immigrant
Passengers on a domestic Delta Air Lines from San Francisco to New York were met by a pair of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents who were searching for an undocumented immigrant under a deportation order. The agents asked passengers to show their IDs before being allowed to disembark.

The agency confirmed reports that the agents requested to see identification from passengers on Delta Flight 1583 while they were disembarking at John F Kennedy Airport at around 8pm EST/1am GMT on Wednesday (22 February). CBP said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had requested the search but the individual had not been on the flight.
Is this what safety looks like? A Gestapo checking your papers on domestic flights? Detaining elderly Australians? Detaining people for their religious beliefs? :anger:

Back to the topic of this thread, Trump addressed Congress yesterday. Four observations:
1. He basically gave the same campaign/inaugural speech but without any personal attacks or ad libs. :hohum:
2. For some reason, the much of the media took this to mean that he was being very presidential. Normalizing Trump in this way is a really bad idea. No wonder the public distrusts them. Despite being mostly fact-free and read verbatim from a teleprompter, they applauded this mediocrity.
3. Trump's trotting out of the wife of a dead Navy SEAL made my jaw hit the floor. :jaw: This tactic is not new to presidents, but with Ryan Owen's body still warm and his wife still grieving, for Trump to say that Owen would approve of the applause (2-minute standing ovation) was gruesome theater. And when you toss in the fact that the raid was botched (the SEALs went up against forces that were waiting for them and resulted in 30 civilian deaths), yielded no significant intelligence, and that Trump blamed the generals for Owen's death, that's beyond disgusting.
4. VOICE. A taskforce for "immigrant crime?" Why the focus on this group? On what basis is this even called for?

Overall, while the speech was a rehash from the campaign trail the tone was very clear: the USA has tilted toward isolationism and intends to wall itself off from the rest of the world. Not a very uplifting or unifying message.

I didn't watch it. I can't watch him speak anymore, looking at him speak makes me sick.

But I heard he didn't say anything explicitly racist or sexist and mostly avoided rambling attacks on personal opponents, so by current standards that makes this the greatest presidential speech of all time and Trump one of the best orators in American history.

And that's what gets me. He simply recited the same platitudes from the campaign trail and inauguration speech, and the media thinks that is "presidential." It beggars belief. Even the Japan Times thinks it was presidential. Meatheads. It's wasn't even close. The editorial at least notes that it lacked substance, but how about calling a spade a spade? Trump will never pivot into being presidential; he's always been a sexist, xenophobic asshole, and his low character was on display every day of the campaign.

Gosh quite a flurry of activity all of a sudden. Checked back in after quite a while and surprised to see all the discussion I'be been missing. Anyway, not much to add to what has been said - I'm cheered a bit to see it.

So Muslim ban 2.0 was signed and it now exempts Iraq and holders of green cards. Maybe there will be less chaos this time? But this fixation with border security has become extreme. In my youth, I frequently crossed the border to get cheap gas and what not. Now, I read about a Canadian citizen being held for 6 hours at the border, and then being turned away because she needed an "immigrant visa." All she was doing was traveling to a spa in Vermont with friends. Immigrant visa?

At the same time, it also appears that if you are a critic of Trump, you might not even be able to leave the country. Khizr Khan, the man who delivered the famous smackdown of Trump at the DNC, was scheduled to speak in Toronto, but was apparently told his "travel privileges were being reviewed."

The United States is, of course, free to start demanding visas for Canadians entering the country, but I suspect that if this becomes policy, then most Canadians will just stop visiting the USA. There is already talk of a "Trump Slump" in tourism as people are inclined to avoid the USA. What is happening to Mr. Kahn, however, looks like paypack by Trump. The US is very quickly turning into an undesirable place to immigrate or travel to.

I won't say anything about it anymore. But the irony is that he did get LJ back going again!

I've kind of given up posting about Trump because every day brings some new revelation or idiotic Tweet. The rollout of Trumpcare has been jaw-dropping. It's not a plan to provide healthcare at all, but a massive tax break for the wealthy. It's not even a plan; it just wrecks everything and people will die if it gets pushed through. It's flat out evil to deny potentially millions of people healthcare that they already have and call it a good thing.

And wrecking everything is a feature of this administration, not a bug. His administration is full of Wall St. flunkies and people who 1) have zero qualifications to run a department or even act as an advisor and 2) think it's their mission to destroy the department they are in charge of.

I'm not surprised that that government is doing this. Trump said he was going to build a wall. The next step to get the land for it. $2,900 for an acre seems awfully low, then again, it is in the boondocks and along the border with Mexico. That's what you get for supporting Trump, Texas. He intends to build a ridiculously expensive wall and take away your healthcare.

So, now there is a budget. Again, it reads like a greatest hits of words uttered on the campaign trail forced into a budget. Build the wall, beef up the military, gut arts and sciences. What is most telling is what is missing: discussion of revenues, a forecast about the economy, and nothing about the deficit and debt. It's half-baked like all his other "ideas." If this budget somehow gets passed, the Dark Ages will be upon the USA sooner than you think.

So much for me giving up on commenting in this thread.

Trump has lost both feet due to self inflicted twitter posts. Ha!

It looks like Abe is in deep shit.

https://www.japantoday.com/category/pol ... nd-scandal
TOKYO —
Opposition parties stepped up calls Thursday for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s wife Akie to be summoned to testify in parliament, after the head of a nationalist school operator reiterated under oath in the Diet earlier in the day that she had handed over a donation for the organization on the prime minister’s behalf.

The ruling camp led by Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party dismissed the claim by Yasunori Kagoike, which was previously denied by Abe’s wife.

“The curtain did not close on the problem (with Kagoike’s testimony in the Diet), but rather just opened,” main opposition Democratic Party leader Renho said in a press conference, emphasizing the party’s resolve to pursue Abe over the scandal.

Despite Abe’s repeated denials, the Moritomo Gakuen chief told the Diet that the prime minister had donated 1 million yen ($8,900) through Akie to help build a new elementary school.

Trump has flung all the bullshit possible, and now it's time to clean up the mess. He'll have to answer for his idiocy (or try and blame it on someone else). The question now is: Who in the Trump administration isn't connected to Russia?

Aaaaaaaand TrumpCare goes down in flames. Not because of a vote, but because it wasn't draconian enough for the ultra nutbar Freedom Caucus. Now that Obama is gone, we can see the Republican Party for what it is: cynical, clueless, and rudderless. Somehow, Trump thinks he can pin this on the Democrats. That's some seriously delusional thinking.

Did you read his interview with TIME? Holy crap! The man needs medical attention. There's something seriously wrong with him.

That interview is batshit crazy. He's really annoying with the repetition of everything. Fuck.

Editing to add something from the New York Times...

"Of all the national politicians I've met over the decades, Trump may be the one least interested in government or policy; he's absorbed simply with himself. And what we're seeing more clearly now is that he has crafted an administration in his own image: vain, narcissistic and dangerous."

I'm really gawking at the level of incompetence involved here.

Let's look at the Republican timeline for "repealing" Obamacare.

2010: Affordable Care Act is passed and incorporates many ideas from Republican plans for health care in the 1990s.
2010 to 2017: Republicans gnash teeth and wail about how bad the Act is, vowing to repeal and replace it. They hold numerous (and meaningless) votes to try and repeal it. They all fail.
2017- Trumpcare bill put forth. A quick glance shows that it is not a plan to deliver health care, but to redistribute wealth and make it tougher to get health care. Having been exposed as a sham, and even with Republicans in control of the House, Senate, and presidency, the bill is withdrawn because the Freedom Caucus says it doesn't go far enough in repealing Obamacare.

Trump starts to backtrack on his health care, saying he never promised it quickly (even though he has been saying so all along), and amazingly tries to pin the failure of the bill on the Democrats. :drunk:

Just wow. That's some industrial grade incompetence from the president and the GOP. Not only was the planning piss poor, but it revealed just how clueless and cynical the GOP is. They had 7 years to come up with a plan and all they could do was make a shit sandwich.

So, let me get this straight. Trump goes to the EPA, surrounds himself with coal miners, and signs an executive order to undo the climate change regulations of the Obama administration. :omfg: I have only one adjective left to describe Trump and his gang: he is evil.
