:agree: It's the company's fault for not giving you the contract on time - when they're legally supposed to.

You can do all of it at your Ward Office. Doesn't take long to sign up for personal coverage as long as you have your blue book/quarterly statement.

So, are you going to finish when your current contract runs out, or is it that you're going to work for 60 more days (into the new contract period)?

Congrats and amen to that brother!

I've actually got a mate in a similar situation in the sense that the job is killing him but he just can't let go. Luckily for him the end is nigh (he's going to be forced out) so I'm encouraging him to look on the bright side. Its almost like someone holding a relative who has just died a slow death in their arms and you're saying, "Time to let go. Come on Johnny. You have to let go. You have to move forward. Get on with your life. Freddy's dead. Johnny, LET GO!" But in this case its not a beloved relative. Its an abusive and controlling spouse who deserves to be dead and life without them will be so much better but the remaining spouse just can't see that yet. At the minute he's fighting a losing battle to stay so I'm telling him to wrap that up as soon as he knows he can't win and prepare his exit strategy.

Damn, Mac, I've been there, so I know exactly what you're talking about. Great analogy.

Might I ask what your friend was doing? Which industry?

From my perspective, the worst thing about losing one's job isn't the loss of income or status. It's knowing that you have to go through headhunters/recruiters to find another one. That industry makes Eikaiwa look like a noble philanthropy in comparison...

Isn't Mac referring to a failing marriage and not a failing job?

Agreed. Langslave, you are well away from this outfit - They sound really seriously unpleasant. Taking advantage of the fact your wife is in no state to deal with their threats is disgusting.

Try steaming some veges and a simple grilled bit of chook tit.

Take lots of long nature walks. Prepare and cook your own food (as in, don't eat out at restaurants, etc.). Many restaurants use cheap cooking oil which is extracted from their sources using chemical means (and yeah, the chemicals end up in the oils in trace amounts, which you end up, in turn, ingesting). Invest in some quality extra virgin olive oil for your own cooking. Also yogurt helps with re-establishing your intestinal flora (assuming you're not allergic to dairy).

You can find Campbell's Vegetable soup at many supermarkets here. It's pretty good on an upset stomach.
Many of the bigger chemists/pharmacies here now also have Acidophilus for sale (it's the bacteria culture you get from yogurt without the side effect of yogurt...).
Good luck!

Correct failing job.

My mate is in sales (actually marketing now cause there was a reorg and he was pushed out of sales) in IT security (altho the company he is in now is a massive company and security isn't their core bizzo; the company he was in was a start-up and they got bought out by said large company a few yrs ago).

Yakult is good for putting the good bacteria back into your bowel as well. And I'm no doctor (not even a doctor's arsehole) but having a dicky bowel (aka IBS) I have to take care of it and I can tell you that the worst thing for the bowel is stress. So I'd put a lot of it down to that and certainly a poor diet doesn't help. Sort both of those out and you'll be back to normal in no time.

Or if your relative got sick and you had to leave suddenly.

This is a favourite one. Then when the student or someone sees you on the street etc it becomes "Oh yes he is back."

A common guess for anything that we do. After every vacation, the JTEs ask me if I "went back to my home". When I tell them I stayed in Japan (my home!) or went to another country, they seemed puzzled.

My wife gets the same questions. Even after the four days holiday she got at work.
