Young man, what your mother and I do in our private time is none of your concern. No go off and play, Junior.

Well, lots of sites in general are powered by PHP/MySQL, and lots of sites are porn sites, so yes, there's lots of overlap on that Venn diagram. It's not like any one programming language/database combination is more conductive to running a pr0n site than another, though.

The RAAM at my branch used to check LJ. He was an anal FW, with nothing better to do than check what people were writing about Nova. It really seemed to upset him. During the bankruptcy, we couldn't even pin newspapaer articles about it in the teacher's room.

Yikes.. I don't know if this was mentioned yet, but I should be careful, Facebook I use the same handle, and well I don't want my professional CV to be associated with all the rambles on facebook, but then again.. we can choose who we friend on not.

A teenager has been sacked from her job after calling it boring on Facebook.
Just to give a bit of balance - it's not just Japanese companies. This one's from the UK

Wow! :omfg: With all the cost cutting and downsizing going on, and a company
can pay someone to check that kind of thing. It'll be intersting to see if that
kind of thing is legal.
I'm not saying that they should have to do it, but individuals will
have to tighten the privacy settings on their profiles.

Yeah, it's pretty intense. What happens when your boss wants you to be a 'Facebook friend' ? If you turn them down they get the hump, if you accept then they can scan your profile... A real catch 22.

It seems pretty simple to me. If there's something you don't want people to see, or you think it'd be better if they didn't see, don't put it on the internet.
Or any kind of public forum for that matter.
It's not exactly rocket science.
Each monkeys has different face. It's very difficult to distinguish monkey's face, like we can't memorize foreigner's face.

And of course you are right. I remember someone saying that you should only put something up on the internet that you'd be happy to put on a poster outside your house and I think that is pretty sound advice.

The trouble with sites like Facebook is that people can easily have a false sense of security. In addition, there are other factors which make things more complicated. The other day I spotted a Japanese friend's FB activity and noticed that she had joined a 'Legalize Cannabis' group on facebook. Now I know that this girl knows nothing about hash and has no strong opinion relating to the politics of smoking pot --- so why did she join the group?? Simple -- because her friend invited her and she couldn't refuse. OK, maybe this is a reflection of her weak nature which might need to be flagged up, but in fact she is just a regular, nice girl. But how would an employer read the fact that she had joined this group?

Another person I saw had in their interests "Porno" "Graffiti" (I think they meant the group Pornograffiti) but I am sure you can see how that could so easily be misconstrued.

Misunderstandings aside, yeah, don't put anything up that you wouldn't put on a postcard.

Just to add a little humor:
How not to be hated on Facebook
The article that goes along with the video is good.

Thanks!
And I can't remember where/who I got it from. So if I scabbed it from another poster on here, sorry.

It's healthy to talk about things you're not happy about. My boss and I recently had a run-in where he came across as a total asswipe. I rang him back later because I was furious with him but I didn't go on the offensive - I asked him if he was pissed at me. He told me that, no, he was in a meeting with a difficult client and had had to be quick. He thanked me for trying to communicate the problem to him.

This is how things should be -
EMPLOYEE: Boss, I ain't happy. For an obvious reason that is your fault.
BOSS: See what I can do to fix it in the hopes that it will make you more productive and even more of an asset than you already are, considering the only work I ever fucking do is checking up on you...

Dispatch companies really need to sort it out. They're no better in moral terms than slaveowners, by and large.

Sadly, "pathetic stooge" is all many people aim to be in life. Beats thinking for yourself I guess.
