The Backpay Thread

Unread post by Shawn » Sat Feb 23, 2008 4:14 pm

By request, this thread is for discussing backpay issues and personal experiences with getting said backpay. Please limit discussion to backpay to make it easy for others to find pertinent information. Have at it. :luck:

Well this is hopefully useful, its the latest Faq by the trustees, A lot of it was updated Feb 20th, 2008.

Hope you were paying attention in Math class if you want to figure out if they ripped you off.

Okay peoples, here it goes...

I can't remember where I found this link, but someone had very kindly put this information out there.

http://gcommnova.blogspot.com/2008/02/b ... ctors.html

The most important information is this - if you have changed your address in Japan or you have moved overseas, you need to fax your new details to this number:

06 6649 9790

or, alternatively, you can write to them at the following address:

Midosuji Minami Building
4th Floor
2-3-2 Nishi Shinsaibashi
Chuo-ku, Osaka
Japan

Attention to The Trustees.

You need to provide the following information:

Your full name
Your Nova Instructor number
Your current address
Your current telephone number
Your current email address

I will be sending my information by fax and letter on Monday and I will report back my experiances here so that other overseas people have an idea of what to expect.

If any of this contact information is incorrect, please correct it as I would be loath to send people on a wild goose chase after all that we've been through.
It's only a short step from "tush" to "hey nonny nonny", and then I'm afraid I shall have to call the police.

I want to be remembered when I'm dead. I want books written about me. I want songs sung about me. And then, hundreds of years from now, I want episodes of my life to be played out weekly at half past nine by some great heroic actor of the age.

Sure do! My last day was either the 15th or 16th, then I called in a few days then I even stopped calling.. BUT.. got paid for 22 days in October, according to my 'details of back wages' sheet...

You'd be best to call your telephone operator in the country you're faxing from, they would probably be the most reliable source of information.

Does anyone have an update on where our original Tax Certificates are or where they are coming from?

The one I received (and I think everyone else got) with my unpaid wages docs is a photocopy but it has been hankoed by the Nova trustees. I have read that we have until March 15th to file our returns down at the local tax office. Is the photocopy acceptable?

Yes, we filed our taxes this week and although the photocopy raised eyebrows they just said 'shoganai' and got on with it.

These contact details directly conflict those on the Nova website (here: http://www.nova.ne.jp/information/qa-st ... #qa0220-17) which gives a different fax number and address. I sent a fax to that number yesterday, and I'm putting one in the post as well... that said, I'll keep all my bases covered and fax/post this address as well. Wish I knew why the info is conflicting though!

Thanks Icegemini for the link. I think I'll take your lead and send my details to BOTH addresses. Curse them and their conflicting information...

Here are the details from the link that Icegemini kindly provided:

Office of the Trustees in Bankruptcy
Attention to Jinji Kanri
The Office of the Trustees in Bankruptcy, Bankrupt Company Nova Corporation
Nishi Temma Asahi Bldg. 2F
10-14 Nishi Temma 1 cho-me,
Kita-ku, Osaka-shi 530-0047

Fax: 06-6360-6766

They are also asking that you provide your previous addess if you have moved since Nova gave up the ghost, as well as you current details. I think the point is, provide them with as much information as possible to ensure that you get your paperwork and ultimately the money owed to you.

Good Luck.

God, I am so happy. Well, with some reservation until I actually see the money.

What period of time does the back wages cover again? It's been so long that I forgot when we stopped getting paid. I'm trying to plan for May as I won't have a large paycheck at the end of April (month gap between contracts! and I'm not sure how many private lessons I can get).

Besides our current address, is there any other important information they need from us? Do I need to remind them that I wasn't pay? I assume they know, but don't want to run into any problems.

Even if i am getting paid for the bunch of days I toppatsued and for the few holidays I had remaining when I quit in September it still doesn't add up to the 400,000 yen they've got me down for

My papers haven't arrived yet either, however other instructors that live in the same city as me have received theirs. Should I be worried? Or is there some sort of order that the trustees are following when sending out the paperwork?

I GOT MY PAPERWORK! I had to do two signatures and the date in Heisei. You mail it in- there are two pieces of paper from what they send you and you need a copy of your gaijin card and bank book.

The pay for September and October is 80%. The pay for November is effectively 40%.

There MAY be severance pay eventually but that is in limbo due to negotations with some company NOVA had a retirement contract of some sort with.

I sent my paperwork off last week, my only concern now being when we will actually be seeing the money. If we are supposed to pay taxes before the 15th of March I'm hoping it's sometime this month or early in March. Basically I'm itching to see my bank account balance jump by half a million yen 8)

I stopped by my branch today to pick up some paperwork and the two staff members I spoke to haven't received their back pay forms yet.
