Re: The President Trump Thread

Does Trump intend to start another nuclear arms race ? Because... President Donald Trump said on Thursday he wants to ensure the U.S. nuclear arsenal is at the "top of the pack," saying the United States has fallen behind in its weapons capacity. ...sounds like he does. And this makes no sense: “I a...

Board update

I recently updated to version 3.2 of PHPBB. For some reason, the layout in Chrome is a complete mess. The topic icon gets repeated all across the screen and dropdown menus are all hanging out. Everything looks fine in Firefox and Edge, however. How are things with you? Any strange issues with the fo...

Re: A Thread for Translators

The problem of trying to parse Trump : As political leaders in Japan pay close attention to how U.S. President Donald Trump will go in office, so, too, are interpreters who have had a nightmarish experience translating his disjointed speeches. “He rarely speaks logically, and he only emphasizes one...

Trump's pick to replace Flynn turns down offer. "Ummm.... no." If you were offered a shit sandwich, would you take it? In the span of a month, Trump has become absolutely toxic. Working for the administration or associating yourself with it would be bad for your career. And that goes for government...

You're being way too nice mate. The whole thing is about to implode. It's going to be a spectacular Hindenburg-like disaster. Wherever Obama is right now I bet he is enjoying the show. He did like that show Homeland and this has certain parallels. You just might be right. Obama is probably laughing...

Let's turn our attention back to policy. Gen. Mattis spoke to NATO leaders the other day and basically told them to pay up. “I owe it to you all to give you clarity on the political reality in the United States and to state the fair demand from my country’s people in concrete terms,” Mattis said. “A...

I watched that live. Yes, he said it. "One state or two state solution. I'm for whatever the two parties decide to work out." International leadership and wise diplomacy at its finest! So I wake and turn on the news to see what wacky White House antics the day brings. Did you see...

Man, there's so much happening so fast now. Did I just hear during a meeting with the PM of Israel that Trump was OK with whatever Israel does about the Palestinian issue? The deal with Flynn looks increasingly like everyone on Trump's team knew what was going on. If so, they are truly screwed...

Who knows where any of this is going...We are all in for a bumpy ride though. Here's Dan Rather's take.. Oh my, it looks like it's much worse . But the intercepts alarmed American intelligence and law enforcement agencies, in part because of the amount of contact that was occurring while Mr. Trump ...

Just as this thread appears, Kim Jong-nam is assassinated in Malaysia.
China is certainly a key player in getting something done about NK, but I think NK is an important poker chip for them. As long as NK doesn't get too carried away, they are a useful tool in causing the West to freak out.

I am actually fine with them letting Miller on the air - if this administration is going to act in a fascist, authoritarian way then what better way to warn the public than by letting these idiots make themselves look bad by parroting fascist leaders. Can't wait to see who will play Miller in the i...

I don't know if there is a tipping point with a country like NK. Do you go to war over a missile program? Who goes to war? I'm not sure South Korea is all that interested right now. Moreover, for all it's saber rattling, is NK dumb enough to attack the US or Japan?

That Stephen Miller guy is a fascist. There is no other word to describe his diatribe. Its not just the substance of what he is saying, but the way he is saying it. Re: The President Trump Thread

I have been discussing the immigration ban with some American constitutional law experts and their opinion is that a ban on travel similar (but not identical to) the one Trump ordered could be easily implemented in a way the courts would uphold. The main problem with this one is that it included pe...

It's because he doesn't want to risk the same thing happening in Europe in America. It's being pre-emptive. There's been a lot of trouble in Europe. Ah, but it's not scaremongering, is it? And the refugee problem in Europe is very much relevant to the debate. It's unfortunate, that while I accept that the large majority of Muslim refugees and asylum seekers are peaceful, there have been some extremely nasty incidents as well. Did you hear about...

Thank you, Steki, for reminding me about principles. I've criticized Trump about his lack of principles while ignoring my own. I've been far too generous with my tolerance of your racist, ignorant, and bigoted comments, and have decided that this form is not for you.

Let's keep this simple: the majority of Americans don't want Muslims coming in. It is our country and we can make those decisions based on the desires and needs of the nation and people. I'm not disputing the fact that the US is allowed to make its own immigration rules. This is about an idiotic ba...

This fight is not over. Trump can (and has mentioned) file a new order. I'd say he's done. Does he really want to waste so much political capital on this fight? Is this the hill he wants to fight on? He first needs to come with a plan. Telling the public to be afraid of some unspecified threat isn'...

No, Liberals generally don't. My own observations over the years: 1. Little to no long-term thinking. 2. No sense of consequences/causality for their actions. 3. Actions largely based on emotions/desire to virtue signal. 4. Likely to demonize those who dissent. Isn't this exactly how Trump has been...
