Re: lifes little greats

I had a salesman try and sell me solar for my carport roof. It's a big roof...( largest double car carport we could find) The company would arrange a 10 year loan and he worked out the monthly income from the power would pay it off in 10 years. I decided not to get it. Plus I didn't trust the extra ...

I got this one sent out from the States. https://www.lorextechnology.com/wireless-security-cameras/wireless-security-camera-kit/LW2232PK4B-1-p Costco in Japan sell similar and you can probably buy in Japan now cheap enough. When I was looking Japan prices were 3 or 4 times the U.S prices. Looks like...

Re: The little questions...

I bought some security cameras a couple of years ago after having tires stolen from the carport. Last year somebody was killed in a hit and run and the cops did a door to door checking the underside of all cars for damage or evidence. The cop asked if I had footage from the camera for the night but ...

Re: What's happened to Eikaiwa?

I had a great year last year with lots of new students. Lost a few recently due to scheduling. Can't get the right students for their classes all in the one place at the same time. The local Japanese competitor down the road who was teaching out of his home has just built a 3 story building with the...

They both definitely needed more time in Aus. Eldest one did some summer trips to Aus & Singapore when h...

He's going on a study trip to L.A in June. Luckily he's told me he'll use all his otoshidama.... he has saved 90% of it all since he was born. He also told me he'll pay me back all the money for college... Not sure if that will pan out...fingers crossed.

I've got my second son on his 4th year of college. He's doing an extra 3 year course with 2 more years to go. Sets me back about ¥130000 a month.
Can't wait till he finishes.

Re: Buying a car in Japan

Any of you using those new fangled driver recorders? My old radar detector died last week and I thought I'd replace it with something similar. After visiting Yellow Hat and Autobacs I see technology has gone nuts and there are all these nerd loving gadgets. I'm now interested in installing a camera ...

I've had all my shaken with the Subaru dealer, plus I can't be arsed doing it myself either. Tax included in that price of ¥55000. Would rather spend my time watching grass grow or something else I should be doing. They also have a pretty good maintenance program...every six months that is more trus...

Put up my prices this year for the first time last month. 12 new students since. Mostly 6 year olds. Some from the local International Kindergarten. With the International kids I put the price up more than 30% and they were still happy to sign up. Still only run my school as a side business but stil...

I agree with what you're saying. I've picked up 2 kids that were doing skype lessons via the U.K. The guy teaching them had a school down the road from my school for 13 years until 2013. According to the mother he has a lot of kids doing the lessons online. But like you said...she prefers in person,...

Re: What's happened to Eikaiwa?

I've seen a lot of adults doing online skype lessons with Filipinos for as low as 200 to 500 yen an hour. My best adult class is paying 10,000 for 90 minutes so hope they all don't go IT on me and download skype. Still lots of people not net savvy. I've still got my little school which is 15 years o...

Been going to the gym since my knee op, but gave them one month's notice yesterday. They put the price up and I don't go as often as I'd like to. Most of the exercises I can do on my home gym and would like to get out on the bike a bit more. Having been losing weight by diet down 10kgs... The gym ha...

I might have mentioned this before but I once followed two Japanese drivers along a dual carridgeway for over 10km. One driver was on the left hand lane, the other on the right. Both drivers were driving at a snails place blocking the entire road. In was out in the countryside, not a traffic light ...

Last Friday I also decided to visit this other company I was doing business with 3 years ago and asked if I could poss...

If it's not worthwhile I wouldn't do it...I only do it on my terms and don't work for an eikaiwa...except my own school. Therefore I get all the profits... Hoping to reduce my workload i...
