While they aren't movies, though, I really enjoyed watching the "Kita no kuni kara" specials that came out once every couple of years. You really got to see the characters grow up and get older, and the acting and direction was quite good (up until "Yuigon" in 2002, which was dreck). You should be able to find all of these at the local video store.

I rather like Takeshi Kitano but sometimes it seems I can't watch a tv show or movie without him involved in it somehow. The guy is everywhere.
