Trainwreck

It's deja vu all over again. The first time, when Nova went under, it was a tragedy. When g.communication reneged on their promise to hire teachers, that was slap in the face. Now g.comm appears to be bleeding money. This is a farce.

Speculation in the forum from ex_sensei:

GEducation's president has announced that the company is haemorrhaging money and as such, effective immediately:

1. The number of instructors working must be slashed according to a 40/1 student to instructor formula (the 40F or 40 forumla). So, a school with 200 students will have 5 instructors. The remaining instructors will be switched to standby with 60% pay.

2. Instructors with seniority, teaching ability and Japanese proficiency will be those who remain in the branch (i.e. Those not going on standby). However, the Japanese branch managers were the ones asked to put forward the names of instructors who match the above mentioned criteria (they made the selection last week but weren't told why they were making the selection)

3. Each branch will now have a maximum of 400 students.

4. Branches currently open will be moved to a more affordable location within six months if such a place can be found near the vicinity of the current branch.

5. IAMs/AMs will become branch instructor supervisors (M or managers) replacing current ATs/BTs who will be demoted to regular instructors. Some branches will not have supervisors as a result.

6. FP/GMs are all out of the decision making loop.

This is followed comments from satokoji:

-Teachers being put on stand-by are being told at various times of the day. The staff are being saddled with the responsibility of telling them that they are not to show up for work, so God help those branches whose staff are low-level english speakers.

-The staff had a meeting with NOVA/G-Comm last night about the advertising push that's scheduled to begin this month, but many are hoping they address the issue of the teachers being put on stand-by, as some staff have promised to ask questions about it.

-The 1:40 ratio is an EC standard as far as I know, which could indicate that G-Comm has plans of using the EC model to mold the old NOVA schools. The first step was getting rid of all foreign management as EC has no foreign management to liaison between teachers and Japanese management.

-Those put on stand-by were told that once their branch, or a branch close to them, reaches 400 students, they will be called back to work. How long this will take is anyone's guess, if it happens at all.

-Those put on stand-by will recieve their regular pay on January 15th, but strarting with the first "stand-by" day, they will recieve 60% of their pay, but still on the 15th of each consecutive month. It was not stated how long they expect to keep teachers on stand-by, or if they are financially prepared to pay them for one month of stand-by or several months.

-Those teachers that were chosen to stay were selected based on their performance records, Japanese ability and seniority. This is because they will be used to temporarily help with the existing staff work (ie: answering the phone, student check -in, etc.) due to the staff shortage.

My suggestion for those put on stand-by: find another job, but don't tell NOVA/G-Comm. Collect two paychecks, but work only one job, and bleed them for what you can. I honestly don't think you'll be going back.

And this:

MORE RUMBLINGS FROM THE FRONT:

-Instructors put on stand-by are being offered the opportunity to do Government Kids at full pay, instead of the 60% stand-by pay. Basically this is like an ALT job, where you might travel to a different junior high school school everyday, or even several different schools in one day.

-These drastic changes are due to G-Comm's hemorrhaging of funds. Basically, the foreign/original management was given several months to get everything on the right track. When they couldn't, G-Comm gave them their marching orders and gave control to the accountants to stop the bleeding. And what do accountants do first? They cut costs. And the first cost-cutting measure is always labor.

-There is a new list for the accomodations. Anyone who lives in a NOVA/G-Comm apartment should call accomodations (03-5524-2485) to see if your place is "safe". Rumor is that if there are at least two instructors in the apartment, you're probably o.k. But, you should not assume anything.

Incredible. Should the countdown to g.comm's demise begin or is this a sign that they are doomed to be a small school? There are so many things they've done wrong, it's unbelievable. Why keep the Nova "brand" and why promise to hire everyone back? Why even get into a declining industry?

G.comm also seems to have assumed students would return in droves once old Nova schools were given a new coat of paint and re-opened. As the carcass of Nova goes through the process, the students are last on the list of creditors to receive any money. I don't think they'll ever see a single yen of their lessons fees. If you were a student and lost everything you paid, would you take g.comm up on their offer to take discounted lessons? If you're an instructor, it's difficult to argue with satokoji's advice: if you're on stand-by find another job, collect two paychecks, get what you can, and then get out.

It's like you just hafta scratch your head and laugh.. what else can you do really...

shameful joy!

It was only ever gonna be good for a couple of checks. Anyone with a basic understanding of supply and demand could see there was no profit here. The only surprise is how lightweight this G company is. Did they really expect anything different in the first 6 months? Japanese simply can't do business.

Mistake number one was getting too many of the pretty faces back behind the counters. Take a look in any Aeon / Geos. There is one face in there (not bad looking but clearly not selected solely on the quality of their looks).

Secondly they allowed the Japanese upper management back in. Trained by Nova since they graduated, completely useless!!

In our November 10th come back to work get together the Gcom president was cracking jokes about how disorganized old Nova was. Chump! Laughing on the other side of your chubby company crashing smug Jap face now no doubt!! Best thing about it is unlike Sahashi (undoubtedly sunning himself on a virgin Island beach right), this fat cunt will probably be at hello work with us when G COM FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY EARLY IN AUGUST!!!!!!!!

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I am seething with rage. There will some very strong repercussions of this action from all ends of the spectrum.
Can anyone fill me in on the cut-numbers at MM? Do option A people get some kind of precedence? Do we have a choice at MM? Whats the vibe, whats happening and what does LS have to say about all of this?

Lubed-ring-piece:

At MM, I believe most people were given the choice of staying on or going on standby. I myself went for Option B and was given the choice today. Not many people I asked went for the standby option so time will tell if some of us are forced to be, like in the branches. A few people who only have a month or two left on their Visa weren't asked though.

A couple of people were also laid off today as their contracts expire this month.

As for Nova apartments, I'm still lucky enough to find myself in a Nova apartment with a private place lined up - figured I'd take advantage of the free board. I've been told I'd have to move out by the end of the month, so someone at LS should have already told you if you're safe or not. Always an idea to double check though!

General vibe of MM is shared really - where's the damned security? Here's to hoping we all see something positive out of this whole mess!

The "Option A" people, it is assumed, were brought in under their old contracts. G-comm was (again, assumed) going to honour the existing contracts that instructors had from NOVA.

I find myself in a rather precarious position as they seem to be of the belief that my contract expires this month, when, and I have it in my hand now, it clearly says that my contract expires in June!

I asked the dude who told me, and he was nice enough to tell me, so no bad mouthing him, what I should do about this, because it sounds like I could have a case for legal action. Dismissal with no break of contract equals 'buy out' in my mind.

The questions is, if the guy who told me wasn't supposed to, and I know it's coming up, how should I handle this? do I wait till the day that they call me and tell me I should move out? or, do I need to take immediate action, get a some legal advice and goto bat?

I don't really know... (rolling eyes only works when you can see my face.)

So, Let's begin, Student A, "I don't know what to do," Student B, "Have you thought about..."

thanks by the way, for everything internet friends!

Very funny comment (above). I laughed at this one.
I'd buy Mr. Inoshishi a drink, if I saw him at Hello Work, and then not give it to him!!! HAHAHAHAHA I'm so cool!!! Damn that would be clever.......

We have all been seeing red-herrings and smelling rats for some time now. We really ought to stand firm as a collective,
i believe the scales are tipped in our direction on this one. Cheers for the info Mr Pantsu! Anymore would be welcome. Its been 5 weeks since a full pay check and the strains on partners is another sad side-effect of this shameless and dishonest debacle and one that really ought to receive a little more attention.

I have an uneasy feeling about things and G.comm/Education/Nova really do seem to be the biggest arse-holes out there, the irony of their company names and business "expertise" will no doubt be lost on only those lacking sufficiently functional temporal lobes.

The conscious withholding of information, ambiguous replies to questions of genuine concern and the overarching general headless-chicken lies and fallacies that seem to rear their ugly heads (everyone remembers the sadistic timing of the Christmas notice) at the most inappropriate of times is straight out of "How to ruin a gaijns life in 24 hours" (Sam's Publishing)

Despite the fact that If one trod the line between paranoia and realism, I feel the same conclusion would have surely been arrived at.

What was the response of the clearly exhausted and over-worked members of LS when people refused to go on standby? (Well we're sorry but we wish you the best of luck with your "melthing after it grows and evolves."

What with the finger-printing and eye-scans, one could be forgiven for thinking that some little penile-suffering men have sure gone out of their way to rid this country of us. Maternal masturbation must be added to their already lengthy list of accepted and unjustified perversions which really must introduce generational psychosis, theWell etc.
I mean Akira is 12 and not quite wealthy enough for the brothels and who am i to frown down upon his nightly bouts of maternally delivered fellatio following a disastrous score of 98% in enginerring class. He must score higher than 2.3%
$ in English to receive a scholarship so not all hope is lost.

Those unpaid wages forms should arrive just as soon as the 5 year old saplings have reached the age of 20 years at which point their act of being turned into paper will be feasible. The govt would surely not be a silent, complicit, silent advising partner in this whole affair with G-CON now would they?

What's the name of the track on the Beastie Boys' album "Ill Communication" which alludes to the inconveniences that may arise from time to time. If G-comm were looking at spending large sums of money on advertising, then I suggest th e Nova brand could be retired and that a spin-ff character called "Ill communication" would be a better start

Who let the schizophrenic patient onto the forum??

Buy him a drink but only give 60% of it

What is so great about Japan to put up with this again and again? If you cannot get a job with at least a somewhat stable company, GO HOME OR TO ANOTHER COUNTRY!

If you are married or have other strong commitments to keep you here, you should have a visa and be doing mostly privates anyway.

It was pure foolishness to expect some crappy little company like G comm to be able to take over a much larger, failed company in a competitive field like this and get anywhere.

Nova, G Comm, RIP!!!

I am one of the instructors recently placed on standby. What I haven't heard anyone refer to is the letter that many of us who live in NOVA accomodations received in our payslips informing us that the rent hasn't been taken out this month but that we can expect that we will be charged twice next month. This is OBVIOUSLY an early warning to us that we can expect JACK SHIT in terms of pay next month what with two months of rent coming out as well as our advances, at least for those of us who took the advance...and who didn't really? who could fucking afford not to?? The new president may be an idiot but he's put some thought into just how exactly he's gonna get away with not paying us a fucking yen next month. and if you don't think that's what he's planning then get a fucking clue. all he'll have to say next month is 'well we've been paying you sixty percent of your wages but after two months of rent (-insert click clacking of the fucking calculator) and your advance (click clickity clack)....yeah, you get nothing. so sorry. a thousand pardons. would a deep bow satisfy?' FUCK YOU YOU FILTHY COCKSUCKER!!!!!!! This is another reason that the newbies were placed on standby. we live in NOva accoms and took the advance. get rid of us, promise us sixty percent, and next month they'll be in the clear without a yen to disburse to any of us. you think that sixty percent wasn't carefully calculated???? yeah. sure.

You better start if you want to be a long term resident. Scroll down for the Japan Times article, "Long-term Residents May Face Language Test"

I am starting to get the impression of a government conspiracy.

Think about all of the events that have taken place over the last 12 months. Possibly even as far back as when Sahashi was looking to expand to 1,000 schools. It's easy to believe that it was just poor business savvy but maybe there is much more to it than what seems so blatantly obvious. Come on, do you really think this whole ordeal is about one little monkey on a bridge? Yes, the monkey is the monkey, but who is the organ grinder? I believe that Sahashi is a mere scapegoat, for lack of a better term, and do you actually believe that he will get what is due? On the written statement to the Labor Standards Inspection Division, they actually ask if you want criminal charges imposed on Sahashi for not paying wages. What kind of question is that? It should be clear under the law whether or not there are grounds for indictment. I can see it now, "Public opinion was opposed to pursuing legal action against Mr. Sahashi and NOVA Corporation."

Anyway, public opinion is being formed and propagated. It doesn't look good for us mere minorities and the common denominator for it all, in my opinion is not G-Comm., G-Ed., or G-Corp., but G-Ministry.

Here is the article from the Japan Times.

Long-term residents may face language test

By KAHO SHIMIZU
Staff writer

The government may require long-term foreign residents to have a certain level of Japanese proficiency, Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura said Tuesday.

The Foreign and Justice ministries will begin discussing the envisioned Japanese-language requirement, Komura said without providing further details, including when the talks will start or who would be subject to the obligation.

"Being able to speak Japanese is important to improve the lives of foreign residents in Japan, while it is also essential for Japanese society," Komura told reporters.

"I think (the potential requirement) would be beneficial because it would not only prompt long-stay foreign residents to improve their Japanese ability but also promote awareness among people overseas who are willing to come to (and work in) Japan to study Japanese."

A Foreign Ministry official in charge of the issue stressed that the idea is not exclusionary. "It is not about placing new restrictions by imposing a language-ability requirement," the official said on customary condition of anonymity.

Someone with high Japanese proficiency may be given favorable treatment in return, including easing of other existing visa requirements, he said. "(High Japanese proficiency) may actually make it easier to come and work in Japan," he said. "We want to provide incentives for foreigners to learn Japanese."

A Justice Ministry official said the discussions are neither intended to expand nor restrict the flow of foreign workers to Japan.

He also said the requirement should not be uniformly applied.

"We don't want to prevent talented foreign workers from immigrating," he said.

Some media speculated that the move is intended to expand the acceptance of unskilled foreign workers, given Japan's shrinking population and expected long-term labor shortage.

But the Foreign Ministry official said the government's stance ? which is to issue work visas for foreigners applying for specific jobs that require particular qualifications while restricting foreigners seeking manual labor ? remains unchanged.

According to the Foreign Ministry official, the two ministries hope to reach a conclusion on the matter within a year.

The idea of a language requirement emerged as part of the government debate on the conditions of a large number of foreign nationals of Japanese descent in such areas as Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, which has a large population of Brazilians of Japanese descent.

Many such residents, who are often engaged in manual labor because they obtained ancestry visa permits that allow them to do so, are not covered by the social security system and their children are not enrolled in schools.

http://search.japantimes.co.jp/mail/nn20080116a1.html

as has been stated in the forums, the language test thing isn't really about foreign workers like us eikaiwa monkeys, more like the brazillians etc of japanese heritage.

and you know what, if you've been here for years and can't speak even conversational japanese, take a good look at yourself. i know it isn't easy to study japanese when working in an english environment all day, but a bit of study on the train to work, or an hour after dinner or whatever.... it's not hard. i couldn't imagine living in a foreign country and having to rely on someone to help me with mundane daily life shit because i couldn't speak the language. fuck that.

there's so much bullshit victim mentality going on here. i'm so sick of it.

No contract renewals for anyone due for renewal in Jan or Feb seems to be whats going on in the MM center.

I know a guy who's signing a contract renewal tomorrow. Though he works in a branch, not MM.

They all just got demoted to instructor.

I was told by my IAM that i was going on 60% but the AMG would come to my branch to formally tell me though she had been requesting english terms from him on how to tell me. Then my IAM says i am not getting involved in the 60% business as gaiji more specifically the higher foreign managers told him they think its illegal and cant be done. Also people in my branch were told there are lists from g.comm and that anyone whose contract is up feb, march, april is going not being renewed. To add to this he is back on the schedule as of next week and has been offered a package of 1month extra pay and a plane ticket home to leave... apparently a mention of being a union member puts the wind up G.comm after 94 members who were told they couldnt get jobs were reinstated after protesting to g.comm... g.comm fear the union?? apparently so. SO, if 60% is illegal then there wouldnt be a lot we could do about it gaijin in japan always 2nd best.

There's been lot of misunderstanding regarding employees' position at NOVA/G.Education:

1. The old NOVA contracts have expired the day bankruptcy was declared, and in fact all employees received a letter from the trustee stating that they were no longer NOVA employees. If G.com decided to base their conditions on the contents of that contracts it's fine, but it seems that this has no legal value anyway. So, all NOVA employees became G.Education employees on that day, and proof is their payslip with the company and their names on it. Basically there is nothing to be renewed, this is a question of getting a proper contract from the company instructors are already working for.

2. If they want to get rid of you they have to "fire" you, and in order to do that they need good reasons, a 30 days notice and a letter stating it. The letter that has been handed by the LS staff to someone at MM is a joke and it hasn't got any legal value for the following reasons: a) it's written on plain and not on headed paper b) it's not addressed to anyone in particular c) it's not signed d) this crappy letter doesn't even clearly state that contracts will not be renewed

To say G Com is 'haemorraging funds' sounds very dramatic, but it belies the fact that all that's happened was planned right from the beginning. There have been no surprises at all in how things have developed. If they were intending to open 200 hundred schools and hire all the teachers, the money lost until schools brought in sufficient revenue was always going to be a necessary investment. There can be absolutely no doubt that what they are doing now was premeditated from the start.

Why would any company want to be in the mess g spot has gotten itself into?

No need to look for conspiracies or anything else. Like so many problems in the world, this boils down to human stupidity and miscalculation. G spot simply must have thought the Nova name and student lists were worth a lot more than they are. They thought they could get a bunch of schools out of this. They miscalculated the market and the number of students that would return. Now they are in a real bind. They are not going to keep their stupid promises because there is not nearly enough cash flow to cover them.

Simple as that.

1) GComm had to have been aware of the possibility this would happen, and I agree these actions were premeditated. I don't think it was Plan A, but it was definitely part of a plan.

2) We all were given so many opportunities to get out. This shit started in September, 4 months ago. I know a lot of people are hard up for cash, but, that doesn't mean you have to keep throwing yourself into quicksand. If you're not, and haven't been, or have given up on finding another job, I have absolutely no pity for you whatsoever. They say fish or cut bait, but there are no fish here, and increasingly little water. Cut bait.

3) I completely and wholeheartedly agree that the government is taking increased measures to ban unwanted gaijin. Defining 'unwanted' is hard, but I'm sure what we'll discover as those talks progress is that it's basically uneducated/unskilled, loud, long term expats who tend to form communities that don't attempt to blend in with Japanese society, i.e. who resist the grindstone, maintain their cultural identity, and refuse to shut up. I think older Japanese just hate the idea of gaijin banding together and forming communities. They're worried about the neighborhood going to shit. I guess they figure if you've learned Japanese, you've already taken a huge step towards conformity. The ratio among my friends of not speaking Japanese and speaking Japanese is oddly similar to the ratio of my friends who make asses of themselves publicly/start fights/ignore all social convention and those who don't. I think they see that too.

None of these things are conspiracies, yes it's planning, yes it's being talked about behind closed doors, but it's not like it's difficult to see where any of it is meant to go.

I work at the MM center and some friends and I overheard some LS staff complaining about the fact that although staff and teachers have had Unemployment Insurance deducted from their salaries, G.edu hasn't actually enrolled anyone in Unemployment Insurance. Is this true? has any heard or asked about this? how can we check? if this mini-Nova goes bankrupt too, are we screwed because we cant get unemployment benefits

I was an option b person and am now sitting back collecting the unemployment insurance. I think that those people whoe went back to g-men wont be able to collect unemployment because they havent been paying into the fund for a minimum amount of time with the new company. good luck to you all.

So what about the upcoming pay cuts??
Anyone have any insider knowledge if this is real??
Any informed speculation on how they might do this and how much they might pay??

Now that I have severed all ties with NOVA GSPOT I hope... I can`t wait till it goes bankrupt. Hopefully when they go bankrupt it will get rid of all you dirty, smelly, STD carrying gaijin.

P.S.

I hate Fat AUSSIES and KIWIS the most

For those of you out there with Shakaihoken. If you have not received your cards it is because G Com claims that they have not received your request for employment. Yet they have taken two months payment out of your salary and you are not insured. Nice. If you have not received your medical cards you will need to call G-education FPS and request for them to re fax them to Matsubara-san in Aichi for him to process them. If you want to contact Matsubara in person his number is 0529120942. He doesn't speak English so I recommend that you speak Japanese or have some one assist you. The payment has been taken out of your pay for the past 1-2 months. Yet they have not registered you. Isn't that nice of them? Is that legal.

get a life....loser.

NEWSFLASH: Friday January 18th 2008: Anders Lundquist has left the building.

I felt that in his honour it would be appropriate that someone post some tributes and farewells in this forum.
Here's a sample selection coming in from all the branches across Japan tonight:

Will post more later.

I think the best way to check if G.com has been paying our unemployment insurance is by contacting the General Union, they should be able to check as they are in contact with G.com management.

Regarding option A eligibility for unemployment insurance, I think that what counts is that you have been working and paying into the scheme for a minimum of 6 months, regardless of the company you were working for. So, should you lose your job now with G.com you should be eligible

I called the shinjuku labour office and they directed me to the Aichi labour office. If you want to check if they have been paying into UI for you you will
need to go to your local Hello work office with your gaijin card and have them
check for you. I was told from G com FPS that G com has not registered any of us
yet. So if you loose your job or they refuse to give you a new contract then you may
not be able to collect the benifits that you have been paying for. Nice.

Apparently, the student lists were worth quite a bit to the trustees. I have been told that the branch staff are unable to call former students directly to ask them to come in and register with G. Education because the trustees had the information removed from all of the branches before the re-openings. As a result, the staff have to wait for former students to call or visit in response to advertisements, word-of-mouth or information on the G. Communication homepage. This has made it difficult to sign up former students quickly and will certainly have an impact on how many instructors are permitted to remain when the 40 students to 1 instructor policy is put into effect.

Stop wasting what precious little calories you have on G-Com/NOVA, invest them instead in getting a new job or swimming back to your home. Sounds like everyone's got a case of beaten-wife syndrome. get out of that company now, lick bubblegum off the streets if you have to, its a more rewarding experience.

No need to apply a simplistic world view to a corporation that got big through take-overs. I'd say ego had a part in Iyanoshi's strange venture but not stupidity. There was absolutely no way they could expect to fulfill that promise and not be in their current position now. Despite the 25% discount offered to students, (which meant that increased student numbers wouldn't have made much difference to the bottom line) they weren't likely to return in droves because Oct-Dec was always the quietest time for us in terms of sales and lesson bookings. In that period many are too busy with year-end commitments to book lessons. After Dec things pick up steadily and peak in march-may. The people at G Com had to know that. There have been NO SURPRISES so far. They never intended to employ all the teachers.

everyone who hates me on here will no-doubt enjoy it, but i wouldnt wish this experience on my worst enemy...so if i help one person..it will be worth your flaming.

sometimes i fucking hate this country and everything in it...the finishing touch of a perfectly awful week was having to stand next to some troll plucking huges tufts of nose hair from his nostrils..and flinging them to the floor near me..in a fucking packed train.

What a fucking pig..I will have that image burned in my head for next 3 weeks of trying to eat.
The women are babes...the men are pigs...theres my daily generalization.
HEY! I pluck nose hairs out too..IN THE BATHROOM..WITH A TWEEZERS...

whats the japanese for;
Could You Please Not Do That In Public!?

Anyway...my mom send me a Money Order for 10G yeah? Merry Christmas..here is the physical embodiment of my kindness and generosity.
Very common back in the world yes?

(I know that you know that I know that you know where this is heading already)

The FUCKING ASSHOLES in Canada who DONT KNOW FUCKING SHIT about the world told my poor dear mom, that "You can cash this anywhere in Japan!" I think You KNOW the real answer as well as I...

My awesome boss even called UFJ for me, to confirm that "Yes, you CAN cash it here at your branch." Should be Ok..please bring ID, Hanko stamp..all that...BECAUSE SURELY TO GOD ON HIS THRONE IN HEAVEN people have gotten money orders before in Japan yeah?

The...CUNTS at the bank..and bank is a "Four-Letter" word.

Now, I do have money coming in....I just didnt have any ON me this past weekend..and I have food..and I dont NEED to go anywhere or do anything..but it would have been nice to go to Keitan zooshi..or Umeda ..or something.
The 14th...I use up my last 260 yen to go to Shin Osaka to cash this MO that my mom was told I can cash "Anywhere"

Thinking like an idiot that I could cash this on the spot, like I was told..I didnt bring any money with me...and even if I cant cash it, I have 500 Yen in the bank..I can take it out and ride home.

but..

...The 14th is a bank holiday...

Bank Holiday...(because its SO IMPORTANT to have another holiday 2 weeks after New Years..cuz its SOOO hard to count other peoples money) And on Bank Holiday, you can only take out bills...not coins.

Shin Osaka is 5 kilometres from my house.

... is it funny yet?

THE NEXT day I go back...(after borrowing 520 return fare), and sit for 40 minutes while they try to figure this all out...forms and ID and photocopy, and please wait wait wait.
Then Mrs ikeda San says..uhm..(after all the running around) "Chargu"..and points to "1500 yen" written in pencil...and some other stuff..but the only NUMBER printed was 1500 yen.

Errrrr...I think; "Should I just cancel it?..1500 yen is fucking steep now...but the lady is SO nice..and smiley and running around and working hard to get my cash...and I have already blown over 700 yen to come here..fuck it...just do it..fine"..."Ima?" I ask?.."No, tomorrow"....No money AGAIN today...FUCK..so the weekend is a total write-off....to "cash" something..means to GET CASH for it....NOW...getting angry..but I gotta get outta here...

I regretted it almost immediately...but the bank was closing..I even turned around and went back into the office to cancel it..but she had run off..and I felt...fed up...so I just left it.

Kicking myself for not cancelling it right away...I go home, I emailed my mom and raged at her for even sending the god damned thing..when she could of just EVER SO EASILY put it into my Canadian account...and emailed me that it was there...its getting really really really frustrating!

Yesterday..I look at my bank book?...theres only 6000 yen in there...

6000 yen

4000 yen chargu...out of 10000.

...

Let that sink in...

The rage...is so intense...that I dont even feel it...40 percent charge.

How does a country run on this? Doesnt an economy run on the smooth movement of funds?
Doesnt a REAL economy run on that? who in their god-damned right mind would ever fucking do this?...I am amazed they even had the form...someone actually believes that 40 percent is a normal business transaction.

I go and spend yet another 260 to go to Shin Osaka UFJ.

I try really hard to get my money order back...to cancel the whole thing.

I use my limited vocabulary..."Watashi was bimboo desu"...and "Baka desu"!

Mrs. Ikeda runs around for another 30 minutes first to show me some document that shows what I already know...I was charged 4000 yen to get 10000...then I ask ..to "CAN-CELL..WAKARISMASU KA?!!"

30 more minutes pass before the manager comes out to offer his card, and his deepest apologizes...lots of disingenuous bowing and scraping and grovelling from theives...I jam my paperwork into my bag, stand up..and drum my fingers into the documents on the desk, looking at the lady who who neglected to tell me that I would be ripped off on Tuesday.

"This was a GIFT from my MOTHER!"

I turn and leave without another word.

i know cuz of what happened to a friend this week who was hit by a car....that things could be oh so worse...but dude...this is just bullshit..I am sick of not being understood.

i have started a list of all the free things I have gotten here that I can remember so that I can sleep without thinking of murdering the next Jap I see.

Luckily...as things so happen..there is a happy ending.

Its freezing here lately..just crazy cold..like Canada cold..(thats cold!) One of our 2 electric heaters konked out on us..and the other one is geting tempermental..if it goes we have only the de-humidifiers and electric blankets to break the chill..(not really enough..the dehumids pump out some heat..but not really enough to make much of a difference)

My boss...whos job is the only thing keeping me alive and happy..and sane...just GAVE me a kerosene heater...which I am told run about 10G to start...I was planning on buying one this weekend...but he gave me an extra one.

So there you have it.

Life has its ups and downs.

Thanks for reading this..I had to get it out of me.

I heard through the grapevine that a list of union members was passed on by Nambu to the G-man by request of the G-man, the union demanding that these people be reinstated! Now here is where it gets interesting! Yeah, they were called back, maybe given an interview, then were placed on the standby list but under the category, NON-rehire. And for those of this group whose contracts are coming up for renewal, out-of-luck as they will not be offered a new one!

But would someone tell me this? If the G-man fears the union that much, then why do those members tail ends, hurt to the touch!!

Seems that G-man may be just stalling any union action for the time being to avoid bad press attention! There are people who read these comments and know what is fact, what is not! Come on people, share the knowledge!!

really if its that bad fuck off. leave japan go home! "I am sick of not being understood" learn japanese dont expect everyone to speak english to you.

ah YOU go home...you dont need japanese to be ripped off...120 million jap speakers..2 billion english speaks..do the math.

lol, what the hell dude?

Yup this country is somewhat stone age and anal when it comes to the banking system. But putting in the time and effort to learn a little Japanese helps dude. If it really bothers you that much not being understood then hit the textbooks!

ye i agree, 2 billion english speakers lets make the rest of the world use english. those lazy bastards with there none english, how rude! they should learn so the next time i go into the bank... yawn i agree with the others if you dont want to speak a different language then go back to canada or stop moaning and put in the time and effort to learn a new language.

you can all shut up only 400 mill speak english as a first language. canadajin learn mandarin over 800 mill! granted there is probably another billion english speakers but only through it being there second language, they took the time to learn a new language you should try the same.

Canadiajin, what an arrogant comment you've made! It doesn't matter how many people speak English as a first or second language, you are in Japan and the language of this country is Japanese. If you are tired of not being understood, study some Japanese or go back home or to any English speaking country. Japan does not need to understand you, you need to understand Japan if you want to leave here.

Sorry, I meant to write "live" and not "leave" ...

Dude no one gives a shit about your crappy ichi man. learn some japanese, save some money next time, or at the very least just fuck off.

"Japanese simply can't do business" ?! That's completely meaningless. Isn't Japan a major economic power ?

I agree with Canadajin. If English was good enough for Jesus it is good enough for the Japanese.

Hey there! I don't really agree with the whole "why don't they understand me" bit, but I just wanted to let you know that you made my night with that rant! I had a great time reading it, and I feel your pain :D

LOL I thought his mom sent him $10,000, not ¥10,000. Wasting time sending a money order for ichiman is like your grandmother giving you a quarter for your birthday -- useless.

Me too thought it was 10k Dont you have a Canadian bank account with Cirrus/ star that you could have used at an international ATM???? the banks charge 4000 k for everything.

Your story has touched my heart.post your address so I can send you a money order for the 4,000 yen the bank kept.

you lost 4000 but you still have 6000 remaining?? i suggest you go buy a nice bra and panties set because you moan like a little girl.. tit.

you're pathetic!
plain and simple.
if u don't like japan.. then leave. who said u have to stay here? go back home and let mommy support ur ass @ 100%.

You can check on this web site (in japanese) if you are correctly under Shakaihoken or not. The procedure takes about 2 weeks because they have to mail you your user ID and password. Once u have that u can access to your personal information through the same link.

Would be nice to post on this blog the result of your investigation. I'll do so in 2 weeks.

what are you people actually investigating?

i'd like to ask a couple of questions to the people who posted a comment about a group investigating a legal case against g-comm. firstly, are you members of the union? i ask this because it sounds like you want people to join your organisation before you disclose any information you may have pertaining to our current situation.in whose interests are you conducting your investigation? are you unwilling to inform teachers who do not join you of their actual legal standing, if and when you gain access to information that could benefit or empower everyone?
also, what does joining you mean? you suggested that people could join you in your legal efforts if they had the relevant paperwork. what paperwork is that and how are you to get it? it would really help matters if you clarified these matters directly.
ofcourse i mean no disrespect, but if you don't do this, you would simply be behaving like the g-comm people themselves who withhold crucial information about our own jobs from us and leave us endlessly speculating.
if we are to successfully counter the appalling behaviour of g-comm we all need to be informed, and thus empowered. the efforts you are going to are commendable but there will be more power to you if everyone knows the legality of our present situations. we might then be able to act in a united way.

Hey george. I was initially interested in the group too, however due to the points you stated I came to the conclusion that it wasnt worth bothering with. I get the impression its for attention, trying to make out like a secret group etc.
at the end of the day its not like any japanese court is gonna vote to give any of us cash is it?
good luck anyway!

There was no need for those replies. I wish you useless twits would just die.

i was in a really bad mood though...i probably deserve some of those comments..i know where i am..

but like i said, you dont need japanese to get ripped off..and if this was a year ago..i would have been less angry..but lately?...i dont think there are too many folk who can just not give a toss over 4000 yen.

thats a new electric heater, or a weeks groceries...or a months train pass.

i know people get on here, and thanks to their anonimity, can comment in any way they feel...and it can be a little upsetting...cuz i admit, i was probably out of line...but i think if i met them at a bar and said this story, or they told me theirs, we wouldnt be flaming each other, but sharing a beer..and making it ok...

i do love it here...and i was wrong to be pig-headed about japanese.
